Firstly, we are very sorry to disappoint you, we are speechless. The only thing we want you to know that this is not what we wanted. And modify is a long process, we will grow, maybe the pace is a bit slow and we may go the wrong way, but we will definitely get better and we need more advice, thank you for your attention.

I REALLY like the looks of the guitar. Good, strong bones. I take $600 guitars out of the box and have to work on 'em for a couple of days to get everything right. Until I get richer, I can tell you a whole bunch of $200 guitars are gonna be in my future.
AND, oh, by the way, some of my favorite guitars have bolt on necks. Don't be such a snob!

When you have painted/coated bridge parts like that, there won't be any electrical continuity from part to part since they are essentially insulated. You'll have to grind the paint off at the contact points. You would think the parts designers would know this.

@@scarmyguitar You should send Fesley a link to an inexpensive multimeter and a link to a video showing how to use it to check continuity. But seriously, I suspect many of the Chinese folks know nothing about guitars other than what they observe when they copy a name brand instrument. I was watching some demo videos from a Chinese company named Bullfighter who was selling a strat clone with a nice gig bag, tuner, and nice looking cable for 95 on amazon. They had 3 videos; one demonstrating each of the 3 pickups. On 2 of the videos, a guy played some simple chords. On the third video he played the same chords on the same guitar but it was so out of tune it was like fingernails on a chalkboard. 😂

Those fret ends were the exact same I got on my Fesley strat, except my frets were a bit unlevel, too (not affecting playability, just not level). And the humming humbuckers (humadders). The out of place second fret is interesting though, because you know they cut that fretboard with a CNC so it should be perfect.
Looks awesome, but seems on par with the quality of a $150 guitar from the 2000s. Not good enough today.

Great break down of the guitar. Mine also has the neck pocket gap, but mine is big enough to fit a guitar pick. I didn't notice the buzz issue on mine so hopefully it's not all of them. Also, this is more of a copy of the ESP Eclipse rather than an Epiphone LP. And because of that, it should have jumbo frets, which they have assured me they will switch to on future batches.

The buzzing might be from the black coating on the metal parts. Another utuber had the same issue and ground some of the coating off so his ground d made better connection

Why is the Bridge on Backwards. Gibson ships them both ways including Epiphone. I have numerous guitars from other manufacturers with the stoptail bridge facing screws to rear. It's only direction of saddles that would to be changed if yours fails to intonate. Plenty of information on forums and also Videos on UA-cam showing the geometry makes no difference only saddles if you run out of adjustment room.

The problem with the black hardware, as opposed to chrome, is that it's not conductive. It's insulating the strings from being grounded... I bet if you scrape off the paint where the ground wire and strings meet the bridge, your humming will go away.
The misplaced fret is a little harder to deal with... 😂

Kids, listen up! this guy is teaching some skills that you NEED.
He has dressed a zillion fret ends and he is doing it right but if you are new to this here is a trick for beginners:
Instead of a triangular file, take a metal fingernail file and sand the edges smooth.
Now when you round those fret tips the file edge contacting the wood will be smooth and won't scratch the fingerboard.
This rascal doesn't need to do that. He is experienced but a person new to this might like my metal fingernail file trick. And a Dollar Store file will work fine.

I bought the Strat style Fesley , and with mine a couple of things :
The frets were pretty rough , but at this price not really concerned a good polishing takes care of that ,
    2. Fret board was super dry but lemon oil did the trick .
    Good side:
Plays pretty good right out of the box , but with a good set up will play much better .
Stays in tune despite my heavy handedness even with super bends and whammy bar .
No microphonic noise at high gain a plus for sure .
All in all a great buy
I play blues and classic rock and it sounds pretty good with the pups it has
    Thanks

From all the guitar reviews I have watched I found these guitars with the coated black hardware have bad grounding. The coating is not conductive at all and they neglect to remove it so the ground wire can actually contact metal. Sharp frets suck and a lot of the time the fret board dries out. It really doesn't bother me because it's an easy fix especially when you have the proper tools. I have had to deal with fret sprout on a lot of guitars from the very expensive to the affordable. I think you should check the ground to the tail piece. I would bet that is the issue as far as the hum goes. If this was a Firefly I would say they neglect to remove the varnish off their ground wiring and even though it looks like it's soldered on in places it's not getting proper grounding. I have fixed the noise issue on the two I own and several others buy removing the varnish and resoldering the grounds.

    • @latheofheaven1017

At 3:06 I can tell by eye that the nut is placed too much towards headstock! First fret is about 1.3mm too long. If you move the nut towards the bridge by that much, it should play better in tune.
Had this problem on a HB tele kit- first fret 1 mm too long (again noticed with the naked eye, measuring just confirmed it). Was lucky that the replacement steel nut was exactly 1mm wider. So I shortened the rosewood fretboard and had fine intonation.

Fret end dressing is one of my biggest pet peeves... Overall, I'd say that for $180 it's NOT a horrible guitar (seems serviceable). However, I got a Leo Jaymz LP off the 'ole AtoZ a couple months back and got it for the same price. The only issue it had was a minor intonation issue that was just a touch off. I can't really hear it when I play it, but my tuner picks it up ever so slightly. But otherwise it's a great Beater Guitar for less than $200....
I like the matte Black finish on that Fesley, but all things being considered, I'm glad I went with the Leo Jaymz. It came with AlnicoV pickups (that sound fine, no ground issue) and Grover tuners. So for the price, I think I got lucky.
That's the downside I've been seeing with the $200 budget guitars lately. Yes, they are getting much better and some can compete with the $600 - 700 Guitars.. But they are kinda a roll of the dice. You can buy 10 of the same guitar, and you'll likely come across just as many nice ones as lemons...

    • @scarmyguitar
      @scarmyguitar  Рік тому +2

It's also the downside with expensive instruments. Sharp frets sometimes can't be helped because wood is finicky. Fret sprout just happens sometimes.

True! My $180 L.J. came in dressed to the 9's (and has the best fret ends I've ever seen). My $850 Fender I got about a year ago came in with some nasty fret sprout (on an otherwise lovely guitar)....
The dangers of online ordering. You don't know what you'll get until you have it in your hands...
Thanks for another great video and review Sean!

It would be interesting to see how you can diagnose and identify the tuning problem to see if the fret placement really is the cause and how far out of spec it might be. The grounding problem is fairly straight forward to correct. But if they are using some kind of automation to cut the fret slots and its out of adjustment, there is likely to be a whole lot of out-of-spec necks being produced with the exact same problem. Newbies probably wouldn't detect it. Good job once again Sean. KUDOS! Cheers!

  • @nklzcyn

Yep, I had to file the fret ends on mine too. Other than that, my Fesley is eminently playable. I love the neck profile. The pickups are decent enough, no need to upgrade them. The fit and finish on my git were near perfect. Mine is a keeper. I love playing it.
Previously, I had bought the Strat version which, I immediately returned to Amazon. The fret ends were all too sharp and the neck didn’t make me want to put any time or money into getting the git playable.

I know this video is really old, but Bro, if you have chance to read it I just wanted to give a very good new to all that people who is interested on buying this guitar.
I just got mine yesterday, and in my first over all check, I can tell you the Fesley people fixed (at least in my unit) 95% of all the defects that caused complain from you youtubers guys had almost a year ago.
The gap between neck and body: fixed
    The upside down bridge: fixed
    The Sharpened frets: fixed
The ugly name on the mide of the fretboard: Fixed
The The slightly bend on the neck: fixed
    (Cheap Strings still sucking)
So, I can assure you that now, this guitar is PERFECT for who wanna start to play this instrument.
If I be you, I'll ask to Fesley to send me a current improved guitar to do a 2nd review and clean their image.
I don't do it cuz I don't have a UA-cam content chAnnel, but you my friend have all the tools to do it!
    Blessings

Good review, thanks. To Fesley, maybe go with gloss black binding on the matte finish, engrave the Fesley logo on the pickups for more subtlety, and perhaps just an engraved "F" logo on the tuners, the branding is definitely a bit overdone. Fret work is always appreciated but understandably overlooked during manufacturing, not a big deal in my opinion, but I also like doing my own fret work. Circle fret markers are nice instead of dots, keep that, no need for branding at the 12th. Truss rod adjustment at the neck pickup would be cool too. The deluxe model should definitely have a set neck... and at least some type of arch, or carve on the body, as well as full sized cts pots. I am a big fan of the 3-knob layout and the pointy lower cut-out, and the roasted maple look on back of the neck is very nice, but I don't know if it would work well with a set neck if you ever decided to go that route. All in all, I like the look, and it's a good price to start with and should upgrade well. I would upgrade the pickups, electronics, and tuners and the rest should be just fine.

I just saw this guitar reviewed on the Bald shredder channel also, He stated that the bridge is installed backwards on this thing, That the screws are supposed to be facing forward not towards the rear. Every picture That I saw that you can actually see them they were facing towards the rear,
Apparently he had a tuning problem too. He claimed that flipping the bridge around fixed the tuning problem.
Oh the woes of the Festly🎸💸

Nope, he was wrong. He set the record straight in another video. The bridge is installed correctly, not backwards

I have a few wishes for the LP... I would prefer the toggle switch be inline with the strumming hand, would prefer the bridge pickup be mounted closer to the neck a bit, to leave room for me to rest my hand, locking tunners, 1 volume, 2 tone knobs- one for each pickup. Jumbo, rolled edge frets would make this Festley the best version in my opinion. I also dislike how high my bridge pickup is mounted. Hopefully I can easily lower it.

I really liked this guitar (especially in the sunburst) until I saw this review. This is the second review I have seen with the gap at the neck. One other review had cracks on the neck below the head stock. Although the guitar sounded good in every other review I have seen. I don't think I am going to risk it on this one. Temu has them for 144.00

To be honest with you , if im paying sub $200 for a guitar i know that its gonna need work, thats why im prepared to adjust everything on it ; fret job, truss rod adjustment , nut replacement, pots, and pickups if i have to. Knowing these skills removes my fear in bad guitars because i know i can fix whatever is necessary. Still sucks that guitars have these problems from factory.

I disagree with you completey the guitar was not free they owed you a warranty replacement. Plus you are providing Fesley a free detailed inspection. Excellent review video as always. They let you keep the old one because shipping it back would cost them more than shipping you a new one.
