    Robert, it looks like one of those bad luck days at the old sawmill today. Thank you for the class on deductive reasoning.

      Yes, not a smooth session, and it was Alabama summer hot, but I got back to sawing with minimal loss of my patience. Thanks for watching!

    When I first saw the notification for this video, I misread "unlucky log" as "unlucky dog". I'm glad to know Chip's ok (saw him walking by in the final shot).

    We have learned a lot watching your videos. Thank you for all the knowledge. We gave you a shout out on our channel and will do so again in hopes it helps others to discover your channel and learn like we have. I had to laugh at this one Robert... sorry you had trouble with the mill though. That definitely falls under the " sh*t happens " rule. It just happened to me when I also hit a nail earlier today and messed up my last sharp blade. Time to take a break and watch a Hobby Hardwoods video and it was like deja vu. I feel better now, lol.

    Klein makes good stuff. I always called the wire tracer a warbler or a fox and hound.

    • @HobbyHardwoodAlabama
      @HobbyHardwoodAlabama  Місяць тому +1

      I agree, their stuff is pretty good, much better than most and a lot less expensive and almost as good as the "best name brand" and seems to function well in real life environments. Unlike lots of stuff these days, Klein equipment just "works" which is all I can ask.

    Thanks for posting this video, I do love my Woodmizer equipment, thanks for the band video last week.
    Any band information makes for Great videos , they are the most important part of the mill.

    Robert, you will never know, maybe you do, I don't know, but.....how much value I, and probably many rookies like me, got out of this. It just seems, a host of Sawyer's present in such a way as if they are so good, and their equipment is so good they never have issues. I could ramble on but shouldn't. Brother, let me just say, thanks. Sincerely, appreciate it.

      Thanks, and that means a lot to me. I film real life sawing, with the good and the bad. It's one of the reasons I don't get sponsored, they are always afraid I will tell the truth about their products, which I will, both good and bad. I know several of these companies watch these videos, and I hope they can make improvements with their equipment with some of my suggestions to them. I like your videos as well, keep them coming!

    Time/effort saving routines. As a very young man Albert Einstein was a patent clerk in Switzerland. He arranged to get all of his work done in the morning and then spent the rest of the work doing math. His superiors were unhappy that he wasn't spreading the eork load out during the day as the other workers did. So he was fired. For the record only the best Professors make jokes spiced up with curse words.

    I like your attitude to sawing but it pretty much works for organisation and attitude to everything you do in business. At least you did not find a musket ball when you were sawing. My friend found one in an old tree in Sydney au. Like the real everyday trouble shooting. Great learning resource. We quickly run a metal detector over the logs before we put them on the saw. You don’t find them all but you do reduce the number you hit.

    • @HobbyHardwoodAlabama
      @HobbyHardwoodAlabama  Місяць тому

      That is the aggravating thing, I have a real nice metal detecter 10 feet away, leaning against the wall, ready to use. Oh well, it only cost me two bands and some cussing!

    You can test that fuse easy by just take a test light to the back of fuse while still connected.

    • @HobbyHardwoodAlabama
      @HobbyHardwoodAlabama  Місяць тому +1

      Yes, you are correct, I could have used my DVM to test individual fuses, one by one, as well, but those are single point checks. Using an active wire tracker let me check the entire harness down the wire, inch by inch simply by dragging the probe on the outside of the insulation, like I showed a few seconds of in the video. A fuse tester works fine, but a system like this lets me check for everything from motor to relay to fuse box , including a hidden short or wire broken inside the insulation or shorted in a connector super fast. It will even find a weak connection or partially corroded through wire. Active frequency wire trackers are just next level diagnostic tools, very similar to the underground wire finders the utilities company uses to trace a broken wire in a big wad of cables three feet underground, just on a smaller scale. Thanks for the comment and watching!

    • @nomad-pq4yw8iy7v
      @nomad-pq4yw8iy7v Місяць тому

      @@HobbyHardwoodAlabama just thought it was worth mentioning because some times small fuses are pain to get to to pull out not only that the smaller amp fuse it is the harder it is to see the burn. Very good point about being able to trace the whole harness with that tool. Wiring can be a real pain and tool like that make it easier to deal with electric gremlins. Thank for sharing the misfortune and temporary fix!

    I keep a pee can under my bed. The forward travel needs to be engaged. Take the pump apart and find the short.

    • @HobbyHardwoodAlabama
      @HobbyHardwoodAlabama  Місяць тому

      Didn't you see that I did have the forward travel engaged, how else could I have tested the voltage on the pump? I had it in cruise control, ahead slow, that way I didn't have to keep my hands on the joystick. The old pump is on the workbench to get investigated or disposed, one way or the other, and I already have a new pump delivered, installed and back to normal operations. Thanks for commenting.

    Have you tried bimetal or carbide tooth blades? If so, how did you like them, and are they worth the extra cost?

    • @HobbyHardwoodAlabama
      @HobbyHardwoodAlabama  Місяць тому

      Yes I have tried them, and no, except in some specialty situations, I don't think they are worth it. I ought to do a video on them, good question.

    How do you deal with nails in a log?

    • @HobbyHardwoodAlabama
      @HobbyHardwoodAlabama  2 дні тому +1

      first thing is to figure out how many there are because nails will ruin bands. Then if you think it's alone, pull it out with a nail puller, and get back to sawing. However, if there are flocks of them, then pulling them or destroying bands eventually becomes a waste of time and money so the log is ejected.
