That was nice of you to remind people to tip their attendant. I think a lot of people skip that in this type of situation.

You bet! Yeah, a woman in the next cabana even came over to our cabana to ask us if she was supposed to tip her attendant, and of course we said yes. So it made me think I should include that in this video in case other people might wonder or even just forget. Thanks for watching! :)

People who don't tip should be pushed into the water and never get help to get out! That is so rude not to tip for any service no matter what it is. A LOT of people talk about removing their gratuities even on Carnival should just walk the plank! If you can afford a cabana that's freaking costly then you got the money to tip the attendant.

@@lovedfriend2020 Take that anger and use it towards corporate greed in America. RC's net revenue was $13.9 billion in 2023!! They CAN and MUST pay their crew and staff well enough for them not to need the tip. Tipping culture is ridiculous. For good service, ofc you should tip if you want to but it cannot be mandatory, it is the company's responsibility, not mine!

Just finished watching your video. Glad you mentioned the tips....thought they would've been included too! Confirmed with RCL to tip $10-$20 per person.

I don’t see anything wrong with the price. Room for 8, three course meal, a server, a lifeguard, maintenance upkeep, over the water. What more do you want for that price?

Some thoughts to you comments. 1. To include alcoholic drinks, it would only raise the price. 8 adults x av drink pkg of $90 (incl tips) is an extra $720. I'm SURE most people without the drink package wont drink that much so why include something that (A) you may have already paid for on the ship or (B) Not have 8 people drinking. 2. If anyone thinks that they can book an over the water cabana last minute - you can't unless there is a cancellation, and you have an in with the HD. Having been on over 35 cruises - most of the Royal, I would recommend booking early. You can cancel it up to three days before the cruise and get a full refund if the weather looks bad. This is true of all excursions, drink packages, spa, dining. You can cancel and/or reserve up until three days before so the risk is well worth it and as you noted the saving are substantial.

For the price for only 8 hours, probably not even if folks want to tour the island. So maybe 5 hours total. Alcohol should be included. Or make it 2-3 free drinks per person at least! Sigh

@andyl9920 it's a business. Quit crying for free things. Buy a beach house and complain.

My wife just booked an overwater cabana for our party of 8 (five adults, three teen kids) in May 2024 for $953 before taxes and gratuities. I think we got a great deal! We're looking forward to it!!!

Over water Cabanas were running $799-1099 on my 8 Cruises in 2022. People pay higher Rates then the Company will charge them. Longer you wait to Book it higher the prices. Shoot even my Cruises have all doubled from day they were Booked

@@NixTheNorm not crazy. It's optional. It's not required. There are people who call you crazy for just going on a cruise. It's an additional cost and obviously not for everyone. Supply and demand is the name of this game. RCL is in this for the money. If a passenger will pay the extra cost then RCL will increase said cost until they notice passengers no longer purchasing the item. All other corporations do this and it's in line with the inflation rates. I'd only purchase on sale or with other people. Great option if you have a small group willing to split the cost. And most willing to buy an overwater cabana will have already purchased the DBP. I'd add it's a bit quieter than some other areas of the island which is a big deal for some people. But it being insane ro crazy is different for each passenger. We got a Chill Island cabana for CocoCay and a similar one on Labadee. Demand was higher on CocoCay so it was around $600 more than the Labadee one. Now due to unrest Labadee was removed and replaced with Grand Turk. The cabana at Grand Turk was $630ish. From videos it's nowhere as nice and the beach club is loud. And then reviews complain of slow or non-existent service. Not all, but many. So in a way you get what you pay for even if it's overpriced.
A note on tipping: Even Americans don't fully understand it. I tip based on service given. I leave a small tip if I got lip service and a smile. However, if the staff created a good atmosphere, brought a good attitude when checking in, did more than the basics, etc I'll give a substantial increase. The fact the cruise industry doesn't remove gratuities and just include it in the cruise fare irks me. Tipping should be for excellent or additional service. The wages should pay for the base of the job.

  • @davidfence6939

It's a great deal when you split it 8 ways. Sure, the average couple or family wouldn't afford it. However, people love to ignore all the costs and the fact a cruise line has to make a profit for an excursion to have any value. You're getting concierge services with food and drinks, a floating cabana with amenities including electricity and water, a specialty dining venue meal, etc. I would watch for sales. I also wouldn't purchase without at least 4-8 other people to split the cost. And I've been on cabanas on other islands that were infinitely worse for a high price.

Why tip "heavly"? Why not just tip the indurty standard? Seems like a big expense for something that seems kinda ordinary IMO.

    • @NixTheNorm

If someone does a really great job, we like to tip a lot because there are so many people who stiff them and don't tip at all. But yes, you are right - industry standard is perfectly fine. But what is industry standard for cabanas? There is no consensus online about this. And you are right - it was a big expense and keeps getting more expensive. I heard these cabanas were going for as much as $6K on Icon cruises. Won't be doing this again, I guess. LOL smh Thanks for watching! :)
