  • As mentioned in my previous kayak fishing video, I took a quick break from tossing the chatterbait to throw a Micro Crankbait! Thanks again Micah for sending me these tiny crankbaits. This particular bait is the Strike King Bitsy Minnow and I had a ton of fun using it!

    To be honest, I missed a few bites which I believe is due to two things: 1) the short rod gave me poor leverage to drive the hooks home and 2) the treble hooks are very small and many fish probably missed the hook point.
    I definitely suggest picking up a few micro crankbaits and taking the ultralight challenge for yourself! You can find these particular crankbaits right here: amzn.to/2Jn6pUj

    Just ordered some of these. Been bass fishing for years. I just started ultra light fishing a few years ago and I find myself fishing this way more so now than anything else. It’s super fun to fight a monster on UL gear. Great video 👍

    Absolutely love the ultralight fishing. And yes keep at it with that crankbait because it is possible to catch a decent fish. Pulled in a 3lb large mouth off of a red mini crankbait with a 4ft ultrahigh rod. Great content I can watch you fish ultralight or fly Rod anytime

      That’s awesome I definitely will! And thank you for the support my friend, more ultralight to come! Definitely want to bust out the fly rod more as well 🤠

    With all your UL knowledge I'd love to see a revisit of these little micro cranks, jerk baits, and top waters as I'm trying to learn them myself.

    Love the bitsy minnows. Also the yo Zuri snap beans are great too. I use a 7ft ultralight just to gain casting distance. Great vid man!

    I've always kept my drag a bit too tight when I ultralight fish, then loosen if needed. BUT it has cost me a couple of times when I forgot to loosen it. And you gotta try the 1/8 oz Rat-L-Trap. It's called the Tiny Trap.

    Deja vu from many years ago. Springfield
    .Bass Pro 4 miles from home...James River crappie...several area creeks...the picture is framed! Before we moved to JC I gave about 50 mini-cranks away to a friend who liked to fish creeks. As you so aptly demonstrated, they are lots of fun on light equipment. Best of luck when a big mambajamba grabs your lure! Don

    Ethan I finally did it I broke down last week and micro sized my baits i caught a lot of fish from a couple of ponds locally. Thanks for getting me to down size I'm really enjoying it.

      That’s really great to hear Larry! Isn’t it so fun?! Don’t get me wrong, I love busting bass on a big jig as much as the next guy, but there’s something about finessing fish with tiny baits that makes me freak out 🤣🤣

    6'6" ultra light and the same lure you used but changed out the hooks to one size bigger. Landed more fish with the hook change. Before I would hook them but they would jump off. Always have fun on the ultra light.

    Trick to these bitsy minnows is to NOT set the hook. Allow the fish to set itself by getting tangled in multiple hook points. It's counterintuitive, but it's what works best with these tiny trebles. I had a TON of success using this exact lure throughout the summer. Great multi-species piece.

    They’re so much fun! We’ve got a few of these in my kids’ tackle boxes too.
    I bought a cheapie amazon bulk package of 10 tiny crankbaits and had a blast throwing them for panfish and a few small bass (and even a little trout!) last week.

    Just looks like straight up fun!! I'm fishing the NYKBF May Online Tourney but I think this will be my last month of fishing these tourneys. I just want to go out and play around with different things like this; ultralight fishing. Just have fun fishing. Thanks for bringing out the kid in us Ethan 🤪

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  5 років тому +1

      Woot woot! Maybe you’ll start playing around with UL gear and catch a 6lb bass and win the tourney, who knows?! 🤣 that’s more my speed these days too, just fun fish. I’ll probably tourney fish more someday but now I’m just enjoying making my own schedule and focusing on various techniques.

    My go-to rod is a 4' 6" rod. I love throwing small cranks on it. I landed a two foot long catfish on that rod with 4lb test and it was the single most thrilling fight of my life. To bring that fish in without getting broken off on that light of line felt so epic. I've put heavier line on it since but the micro setup is still a great way to have fun.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  5 років тому +1

      Lucas - this comment makes me very happy 🤠 I bet that fight was intense!! Hopefully I run into a fat cat one of these days 🤣

      @@FishAnything Most of my fishing these days happens in 30 minute stretches at my local suburban creek. I grew up in a small town and it took me years of frustration living in suburbia before I realized I could go fishing and have a good time even if I didn't have access to what I grew up thinking of as good fishing spots. There may not be any monsters in my little creek, but that micro rig makes an eight inch sunfish feel like a significant catch; an finding the occasional spotted bass or channel catfish is a real thrill. But probably the best part of the micro rig is I can just keep it in my car with a little Plano box filled with the essentials. So whenever I get the itch and I have a few minutes to spare I can just hop in the car and have a line in the water within 5 minutes of pulling out of my driveway. It's been pretty amazing.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  5 років тому

      That’s exactly right! I love that you are like me and cater the sport of fishing to your area rather than just give up on it. You can always find ways of making your local fishing spots fun!

    You mentioned wet leg. How are you dry from your knees down. Maybe I havent figured out that part of kayaking yet, but I get soaked through knees down from water off my paddle! Nice fish on the ultralight gear!

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  5 років тому

      I think that just takes some time! Focus on smooth paddle strokes and “being one with the water”. When you slap the water, not only do you get less speed, you get your legs wet. You’ll get a feel for it my man!

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  5 років тому

      Right on Tyler! I’ll definitely speak to this in an upcoming video but to answer your question, I prefer braid on spinning reels 99% of the time! It’s preference-based but I genuinely think it performs better than mono or fluoro so that’s my recommendation. 10# hi vis with a fluoro leader

    what actions if good for these ultra light treble baits

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  Рік тому

      I honestly think a fast is still fine. Maybe a moderate fast, but because the hooks are so small, I don’t like too much flex or it’s hard to bury them and keep the fish pinned.
