Your a life saver mate…and money saver too 😅
I know exactly what the issue is with the can bus communication issue, its the engine ecu at fault. It's a very common problem due to the engine ecu been bolted to the side of the engine and over time the ecu either gets fried or the tiny joint wires inside break or make intermitant contact. When the fault happens it looses comms with the ABS/TC/ESP ecu and the gearbox ecu and the gearbox goes into limp mode, only 1st and 3rd forward gears can be used and gear change has to be done manually, reverse is still useable. Also the TC/ESP will be disabled.
always best to check basics first. thanks for that. cheers
That's what exactly happened to my car so what should i do to solve this problem?
Bonjour, si voiture ne répond pas à la valise de diagnostic il est très difficile à résoudre les pannes d'une façon précise. Le changement de l'écu moteur nécessite une reprogramation sans échec pour que le moteur peut démarrer.
AF17 I think holds 4 litres of gearbox oil, rest is in torque converter although when I changed my auto gearbox oil on my Zafira A 1.8 I only needed 3 litres to fill up to MAX
cheers
3 ltr?..sound rite but my zafira gearbox once kick down then during slow down it seems like slip before changing back 4th gear or during kick down it seems like engine revving high before each gear snap in gently...but if drive normally it shift smoothly...any ?.
@@karinkatt7893 when it revs and engages gear we call that flaring. you have an internal pressure leak somewhere. try adjusting cable and/or get a line pressure reading to see what is happening. cheers
@@YepThatsIt ....thanks alot for tat info....coz check via scanner not showing any faulty code...
Loved the video, was a great help. I'm after a bit of advice if you could, I have this exact car with the AF17 transmission and i've been gradually losing torque over the last 6 months but it's intermittent, could this be down to bad transmission oil or possibly something else? Have you ever come across something similar? The engine is fine, it revs well, no fault codes on my OBD reader. Many Thanks.
hi, hard to tell without seeing vehicle, but also check fuel, electrical and catalytic converter if blocked. cheers
11:45 for service.
Please help me locating overflow plug
I've got milky trans oil. Can I put a radiator sealer in radiator to seal any cracks, then change the trans oil. Will that work? Without having to change new radiator
hi, best to bypass the radiator/heat exchanger to eliminate future coolant from entering trans and to get better cooling. cheers
Instead of going down to the filler plug, would I be able to fill the transmission through the dip stick tube?
hi, of course you can ! cheers
Hello, I use a similar car, 2007 reg. Vauxhall Astra, Automatic 4 Speed transmission.
Whenever I try to put it in reverse, all lights on the gear stick comes on and the car jerks in reverse. Then when this happens, if I put it in drive, the car would require extreme revs to speed up and it doesn't speed up at all, instead it drags. Also on the dashboard, instead of displaying current gear speed, it goes blank.
Most times I have to turn of the car for a while for it to reset, on some occasions it will reset immediately
hi, check basics first, may be low fluid level? fault codes generally indicate an electrical issue. cheers
G'day, just wondering if the filter needs to be changed? Is it just a bigger job or not needed and an oil change is ok? Cheers
hi, you can add a inline filter in cooling line, just make sure it flows correctly as those filters are directional. cheers
Would've been nice if you showed where you filled it from.
hi, there is a filler tube and trans dipstick behind eng dipstick....see end of vid. cheers
did you fill through dipstick hole? please
Chamara Dilshan Fernando yes, why’s so difficult?
@@YepThatsIt Where is the filler tube?
I wonder if you can help me my Astra h 1.8 auto stuck in D4 With a spanner light no downshift until i do it manual then when i restart the car it will drive fine for seconds and get stuck in D4 what could be a problem?
hi, check all basics first, then look at solenoids, sensors and range sensor. cheers
Hello ,
Can You help me with an answer please. I have an opel like in this video same gearbox and I want to chang the gearbox AF17 with AF13 same code 60 41SN because AF 17 don't work. I can make this change?
hi, many of the internal parts are same or similar. I do know the valve bodies are different and with different solenoids, so I would say no you can`t. cheers
Thank you
yeh i always instal B+M supercoolers for my transmissions after horror stories ive heard with water getting into transmissions , previously i did it just because all the guys with hot rods did it to prolong trans life. would you say the newer alluminium radiators are worse for the transmission milkshake effect, i guessing the copper radiators may have been better.
hi, nah i always bypass radiator or heat exchanger so no chance of coolant or water entering trans, over time the pressures and temp changes will cause a crack in the radiator cooler sleeves or the heat exchangers. the trans cooling line pressure is roughly same as radiator pressure when vehicle is running, problem arises when you turn off car and the pressure remains in the radiator cooling system until it cools down....thats when coolant will enter the trans and slowly absorb the friction linings and then this will steam the lining off the clutches and bands. beats me why they still run trans cooling and coolant together ? we use drivetech coolers that have a spiral in the cooling line wafers so more surface area is exposed for cooling. they are also quite thin and strong in design so you can pressure wash bugs and dirt off them without bending the plates/blades that take away the heat in the cooler. cheers
@@YepThatsIt drivetech sounds good , thanks for the finer details re metal fatigue and water pressure remaining long after trans oil pressure has come to a rest.
I have a sb barina 1.4i auto and it shows that I can buy a filter for the auto trans but I was under the impression the auto in mine and this model are the same ?
hi, no worries, cheers
Holden astra 1.8l petrol 4 speed auto how much litres of trans oil do i put in once empty? Thanks
hi, what comes out is just a reference just incase was leaking or overfilled. always check as per manufacturers recommendations. cheers
Do You fill it up through the dip stick tube ?
hi, yes
How exactly did you put in the oil? Where is the inlet and how does it look like?
hi, fill through the filler tube where the dipstick is.cheers
@@YepThatsIt You made my day. Thanks
@@YepThatsItthanks mate! Awesome vid, going to do the job in the next few weeks
Whats the OEM schedule to replace the oil/ mileage ?
hi, not sure of oem, they often recommend not within their warranty period anyway. we recommend every 50,000km when trans has done under 200km and then every 25,000km when trans has done over 200,000km. cheers
how did you fix the can bus error?
hi, make sure charged and strong battery, good earth connections ( often the straps a bolted to paint - only connection is through thread of bolt ) and plug connections. could also be your scan tool unsuitable. cheers
How can I change the filter?
hi, you need to pull trans out and apart. cheers
Here’s a question if it’s 9 degrees and I just checked my corsa auto and the oil was over the + 80 it’s over full given it’s winter and cars not been used ????
hi, you are checking transmission temp, not air temp. cheers
I think these were sold in US under name "Saturn Aura".
the Aura is another car bassed in the same plattform of Vectra C. Astra sold in USA and CANADA as Astra too
Is this gearbox reliable?
hi, they are all more reliable if you do regular maintenance. cheers
Enough with all the talking, shut up and show the job!
sorry boss
