The first time I watched this episode, this scene had such a visceral impact on me that I barely slept when I went to bed. Trying to imagine how utterly jarring it would be to all of a sudden meet your child that you never knew you had, to embrace him for a moment and probably feel genuine, tangible love (we know strong emotions can penetrate the barrier between innie and outie), and then immediately have it ripped away against your will. And then to realize that your employer has the power to shut you on or off at any moment at their discretion, and also that you will never see your family that you now KNOW you have ever again. So deeply disturbing.
Fr like I’m a student who has never even thought about the concept of having a child but this scene has pestered in my head almost as heavily as the finale
I think season one made the right decision by barely showing the outies lives (The exception of course being Mark), it holds up the mystery of the innies not knowing about the outside world. I think season two will show us more of Dylan, Helena and Irving as outies, but this is one of the best scenes in season one, Milchick is such a well written character
So Dylan's outie is just totally ok with that temporary dissociation and then suddenly affirmation things are done so he can get back to chilling with his son. What a crazy uncomfortable deal
@@MeleysTheRedQueen I know. :) But I mean like the Milchick being on the outside in general. Maybe it's the same relation as with Miss Cobel and he's his neighbor. :O
@@madscientist8286 Given that you don’t generally know what goes on at work, Milchik shows up and you recognize him because he’s the orientation guy from work. He walks up to your door, says he has to put you under do to say like “An emergency update with the chip” and you agree because it’s from Lumon and this kind of thing can happen. It’s easily explained away because the company itself is just so mysterious to you as an outie that this seems normal.
Yeah I think Milchick is one of the few Lumon employees who knows the innies and the outies, would try and keep up appearances with the outies so as not to arouse suspicion, he probably turned up at Dylan’s house and simply said he needed to discuss something urgent with Dylan’s innie for a couple of minutes, from Dylan’s outies perspective this wouldn’t have been a big deal as the time would’ve passed instantaneously
Dylan shares the worst faith among them all, because he supposed to never contact his alter, like all of them, but now the only thing he knows, is that he has a family and a son. Work Dylan wont stop thinking of them, they treated him in worst possible way
This scene came out of nowhere it was fucking incredible. And then the tension ever since this scene continues until the very last moment of the season. Fucking unbelievable show
Imagine Dylan; he goes into a Lumon elevator, doors closes then wakes up in a closet with Milchik asking him about work, a kid comes up to hug says 'Daddy', Milchik pulls his son away, then you wake up to an elevator door. No wonder Dylan was pissed.
A few things that stuck with me after watching this scene multiple times.. 1. Milchick was concerned/uncertain if Dylan had smuggled out the ideographic card, which contained words and images the code detectors SHOULD HAVE detect, outside the severance floor. 2. Milchick asks if Dylan was PAID to smuggle it out...how can that be if their innies and outies do not retain each others memories. If someone on the severed floor promised money for the card, what good would it be for Dylan's innie? 3. Dylan remains honest despite him taking the card from O&D secretly.... 4. Milchick was very rough with the child and the child's reaction to him did not seem positive. Could be because he was getting scolded at the time. 5. Outie Dylan's smile towards his son gives me the idea he has a close relationship with his family, or children at least. Although, I am confused about his partner/wife. If they were there at the time, I imagine Milchick would have let them take care of the child while Innie Dylan woke up....
There’s a theory that Lumon is working on cloning tech, and Melichick is actually several clones. The person controlling the innie/outie control thing (forgot it’s actual name) seems to also be black (might be the lighting though).
What seems strange to me is that his outie seemed to understand the whole situation and remember what happened. Somehow I didn't notice that until I rewatched the scene right now.
i wonder who millchick is to dylan in the real world? like how cobel is ms. selvig to mark. the fact that dylan was cool with millchick once he became his outtie again makes me think dylan knows milchick as someone else
You guys aren't taking into account that Milchick is doing this without the company's knowledge. If Dylan were to go to the severed floor, cameras would be everywhere. Hence why Milchick did not punish Dylan for taking the card from O&D or for attacking and biting him.
@@WhiskeyDip that's a great point, but it still doesn't explain why Milchick is being so secretive about this. Is he worried about personally being punished for letting Dylan sneak out the card? I wouldn't think that would be his responsibility
@@philltopia I think that may be the case though. And/or that they shouldn’t have let MDR visit Optics & Design in the first place. Cobell seems to be carrying out her own “research” with, especially on Mark, without the knowledge of the Lumon board. Maybe Milchik is doing the same.
Friendships cannot be formed between departments, so false rumors are created between departments. Milchick knew about this and did not report on many of these occasions so it was his fault.
is the hand releasing the switch black. Are there couple milchick clones running things smoothly. That would explain how he is always able to be behind you
At first I was going to say it was probably Graner, but then I remembered Milchick was desperate to keep the whole thing a secret. So if it was Graner, they'd had to have had some sort of agreement to keep it secret. And who knows if this is the first time this has happened...
Having finished the season: is this really Dylan's response to seeing someone from the office IN HIS HOUSE, IN HIS CLOSET? "We good here?" I wonder if the script was revised at some point to show him a lot more freaked out...
@ Haha idéalist no but the Idea of only innie version is a relevant theory. I think he came from the test room but if WE check his clothes, hair and moustache, he is a 70-80's Guy. His dance moves too. Well WE would see this maybe in Season 2.
@@nicolasharoutiounian4542 Interesting theory. Maybe he was one of the earlier test subjects for severance and they screwed it up so all he had left was his innie so they had to give him a new life as an employee. Of course he could be a company cult member as well and a true believer. Just because someone is a true believer doesn't mean they don't have aspirations to move up the chain of command.
In case Dylan found the weird card, I think it was a judo grappling move or something, and he'd be like WTF is that doing in my work place? I also think milchick is possibly an innie taken over an outie, so he takes rules like not letting stuff leave the work place far more serious than justified as he knows the punishments that could await him at home base.
Outie Dylan did know what was going on. Milchick needed a few moments to talk to the Innie and they went to the closet as to limit the amount of exposure he would get to the Outie's life. That's why the son was counting; they thought it would be enough time to explain it all, talk to Innie Dylan, and switch him back off.
No, I don’t think so. There is women’s clothing in the closet. Sexuality seems to unaffected by severance. Innie Dylan has given no indication that he is gay, and, as there does not appear to be any reason to hide his sexuality, it can be reasonably assumed that he would not. On several occasions he talks in a sexual way about women (Ms. Casey, the “MILFs”). I think Outie Dylan knows Milchik in the same way Helena and Mark do. He did their outie orientation, and he’s the guy they call if thru need to take a day off work.
I think there’s a very good chance of that, or some other sort of very close relationship. How else would you explain why Dylan is ok to let Milchek into his house, and into his closet no less?
I liked how Milchick isnt aware of how kids usually arent obidient.
