The reason why the chair is used is simply logistics , everything you see has to be taken in a car there and a huge heavy base is a lot harder to take than the chair, but that’s the reason why at least for now
@@ScreenTested if it's land you could 'build on' could you sink a larger diameter (or smaller?) pole into the ground with a locking pin that you could slide Tony's pole over when you are going to film? Don't say the last part out loud... >D
The material seems to be weaker at the shoulders
The "This isn't the UK" comment caught me by surprise and made me spit out my tea.
dito
Uk? Mini Canada? 😂
Just finished the episode. 10/10 burn❤
Was absolutely hilarious
no surprise to me
It's not a real Tyranth video until he knocks over the camera. 🤣
Really seems like it aye 😂
that arrow shot in half was sick
Given the stab proofing properties of that cheap Gambeson, it'd be great if more common clothing was made of the same materials..... Especially for me in the UK.
I mean if I was in the UK I would wear one around
But you'd end up paying for it in terms of cost and in terms of comfort. I can't imagine that a well made gambeson would be very fun to wear in the middle of summer in place like SoCal and the Southwest here in the US where it regularly gets into the 90s or higher.
@@ScreenTested I might. I don't live in a dangerous area, but I travel through some sketchy places almost every day, very early in the morning, often in darkness. I'd like some neck protection, too, as slashing at the throat seems to be a very common strategy used here.
@@Riceball01 Yes. I'm lucky, as our weather is generally cooler.
I might have a episode at some point on more modern available “types” of armor which I think could be a fun episode
6:11 Perfect! "This isn't the U.K.!"
"This isn't the UK" 🤣💀
"a grappling hook isn't a weapon."
Is probably what nite owl was thinking before he gave rorschach the same grappling gun that rorschach would fire into a swat officer's chest.
Dark Horse comics if I remember correctly.
Love the dark comedic thumbnail and humour of your commentary. Testing the recent weapons against the armour is like watching an all-star episode.
Thanks for supporting man , is it dark comedic ? to me it’s just comedy I guess hahaha
@@ScreenTested for some reason I recalled M.Bison's Tuesday comment (from Street Fighter 1994 movie) reading your reply 😂
If I could hit that like button multiple times, I would for that arrow on arrow shot. That was one in a million.
Hidden gem channel. Keep up the good work!
Be nice if it wasn’t hidden haha
@@ScreenTested true tho
How?! Just...how? 11:30 that was insane and awesome!
Lmao the innuendos are strong with this one
Any armor is better than no armor
I feel like Tony's leather might've skewed some of those results but still interesting, haha.
tony is unprotected ontop the shoulders but even there trying to pierce would only have resulted in minor scratches as has been shown in the video.
@@h.1699 the first real failure for the armor was the shoulder, hence my comment
@aetherial87
yes, but it was a cut, the stabs, even close to the cut, didn't go through to a significant degree, thus my reply only mentioning piercing
the slash that cut good was from pulling on a shallow angle, which too would have resulted in only a minor injury. the other slashes did not go through all the way, likely more influenced by being from steeper angles.
It's okay Tyranth you still looked great for 2 years, even in your shitty cardboard gambison.
😎👉👉
Well I do try….. haha 👍🏼
* stares in jedi council*
“This isn’t the UK”
HEY NOW. 😂
YOU'RE AN ALL STAR 🎵
@@marcoalimandi6013 GET YOUR GAME ON!
It be neat to see some diy armor like a we make it you break it. And if it passes your rigorous testing u add it to your outfit you can start small like bracers
The first pronunciation of arsenal was correct.
Emphasis on the "r".
But for americans it's aRRRsenal or AssAnal? xD
The UK comment 😂😂😂😂!! Omg i felt the cultural enrinchment all the way to here.
"did I just cut an arrow and a half?" 😮
11:26 The proof that someone can be too precise 😂
Lol this is not the UK 😅
UK has trashcan like disposal machines for knives. You can safety dispose a knive that was used in a crime and it wont be used against you in court. the new engineers and doctors never see the court and get released the day after the "arrest".
Awesome video Tyranth.
After hearing the bald man joke,Nate might want to test out your new gambeson against a high-powered crossbow while you're wearing it
I know a few other people have already pointed it out, but I feel like the leather armor underneath the gambeson messed with the results of the stabbing tests.
The difference is akin to trying to stab a tooth pick through a piece of bread thats sitting on top of jello vs that same scenario except theres a cracker between the bread and the jello.
it's not hardened leather, a better comparison would be steak not a cracker
@h.1699 A fair point. At the time of writing that I was somewhat tired and couldn't come up with a better comparison
Neglecting to point out that the dummy also has a layer of leather covering the torso also providing additional coverage for basically ever strike you made. That 100% minimalized the penetration of every stab.
Well, the leather under the Gambeson doesn't really matter to the Gambeson. But even if it does, the flexible leather does act more than flesh and skin than the dummy itself.
in addition the stabs to the areas without leather had the same results even close to the one cut that got through all layers by being pulled on a shallow angle.
'This isn't the UK' Haha, sadly true :( Resurgam.
One thing to point out is the leather armor underneath that might have helped with resisting punctures
Wasn’t making it through the top layer 👍🏼
@@ScreenTested Just thought it might have helped compress the layers, maybe I'm just thinking too much into it, sorry
No need to say sorry man I appreciate you watching and hopefully enjoying 👍🏼
I forgot to mention this in the last video, but what about calling your sword ratings the Screen Test?
Tyranth's "assenal" oh yeah
The more I think about it the less I like the word…
@@ScreenTested HAHAHA true
❤great episode. To bad armor is so expensive as these destructive test are my favorite.
The best protection it provided against arrows, was the arrow which had previously pierced through. Having already been sufficiently shot is not what one wants to rely on as armor.
how often are you shot at?
@@h.1699 How often do you watch the video?
12:44 hehe, he said doodoo
Very interesting to actually see what it can and can't stop. Almost pulling a Robin Hood there. Musical greetings from Belgium, Gunther (singer and lyrics writer of Gabriel Scar)
Might not be the UK brother, but its the perfect gear to wear when heading to frankston
That’s true as I live in the uk and this year stabbings have gone up loads
And now you know why linothorax and padded tunic equipped soldiers of the phalanx were scared shitless of the roman sword, especially the earlier longer versions...
I think in one of Shad's videos one of you mentioned the weakness of Gambeson was slashing cuts that drew across the fibers. You can't stab through it very well, but some scissors might.
I’ve found usually if something like a sword is sharp like cutting flesh sharp it might not get through , but as soon as it’s like razor sharp gambeson gets destroyed
So much armor and weapons can be made with biodegradable materials who knows what else we might be missing from records im glad to see some gambison still in use
That lightning bolt is a stabby boi (based on the video of it) so I'd expect it to work which it did. LOL @ 'this isn't the UK'
Tyranth, I'm glad to see you've learned how to use an arm guard for archery.
The teeth on Arlongs Sword would make for good spearheads
So like a lot of things we buy, they may or may not live up to expectations.
Even so your conclusion felt very fair, including your decision that it pretty much served its intended purpose. Gambesons were never intended to be arrow proof, but it still deflected lesser hits from a variety of weapons, not just arrows.
Yes, I know, same as with any other tool we should buy the best that we can afford. Nonetheless buying a cheaper gambeson will free up money for other purposes. It’s also great motivation to practice not getting hit, right?
It looks like the knife stabs were all done on the torso, where Tony's underlying armor is still in place, while the slice on the shoulder was more unprotected. Maybe having the hard material underneath prevented any more of the blade from penetrating besides the very tip that isn't easily detected?
Obligatory support comment
Stop hittin yourself! Stop hittin yourself! LOL
6:11 xD
America eff yeah @1:16
I will ask for a dead space ripper until it’s done or I die lol. Spinning saw blades being launched seems deadly, but I’m truly curious how much. Been on my mind since 2008 lol
Would dig to see the "arm blades" from Spiderman 3, the ones from the Green Goblin's armor!
I swear I remember hearing that Gambeson was extremely resistant to cuts but nearly useless against thrusts, which makes these results feel almost backwards
Yes kind of gambesons (at least in my experience) hold up really well against slash’s even against swords when it’s average sharpness, but when the blade is razor sharp it dosnt stand a chance , the blade I used was razor sharp
i mean only the shallowest cuts got through all layers while quite a number of stabs got through but not to really significant degrees.
you wouldn't want to get shot at though it looks like
Need to test hitting one of the bits without armour underneath, so it's just the gambeson not the armour preventing penetration without something soft behind the gambeson. (So it's not the material pressed up against something hard, but something soft)
I honestly think that good mail is still the best protection against casual danger, 2300 years later.
"It seems to be holding up quite well against thrusts." I feel like Michael Scott may have an appropriate response to this statement...
I really wish I had budget and justification for some of these lovely vestments.
That said, I really have no scenario to wear them
Dude I would love to see you upgrade the arlong sword that thing is amazing
I was gonna say "I can't wait to also see this on Shadiversity", but in a way I already have
Armor for striking the final blow!
Lets see who gets that one
Arlong saw sword pretty amazing but what would have happened if you would have put it on the Garrison and then rip it down how would that affected it using it kind of like a saw on the Gallatin or Tony
2:20
2 slashing resistance
20 piercing resistance
It's not the US but I'd love to know if it can even stop a 9mm bullet. afaik, you can't exactly find out easily over there... but if you ever come to the US or something, I'm sure you can find someone willing to help you test it. You could literally ask strangers lmao. I mean, not all of us have guns... I don't own any. (except technically a BB gun I guess? Though idk what happened to that. My then-stepdad bought it for me and I'm sure he's handled it) Still, basically all of my male relatives do. Both uncles, my father, and both grandfathers. Not actually sure about my few male cousins, but probably. So like... it's not hard to find someone with a gun. Now, do they specifically have a 9mm? Idk.
unsure if you did the same test with the steel mastery one...
is the steel mastery gambeson of a similar level of protection or has the stiffer one been safer?
my hypothesis is the tight but stiff weave should be performing better. but it could be sm uses a similarly protective weave but it's only feeling less stiff because it fits better.
i can say the sm one looks more puffy, which could help a tiny bit against blunt impacts...
I wonder if the shoulders were weaker than the body on this gambeson. Maybe thinner to help with range of motion? Seemed like they took damage easier anyway.
yo man should test your new gambeson only fair
ricochets are more likely to be small but very high speed projectiles (like tip of a blade snapping).
then, to stab smthg, the material behind should be similar to gel / ballistic dummies. Else, the tip will slightly move the fibers of the gambison/doublet (whatever you take) but won't cut through (since it is behind stopped by the mannequin right away, this mitigates the damages way more than the gambison). The test isn't relevant to highlight the "penetration" defenses of the cloth armor.
Not: there's no "base reference" such as doing your tests on the mannequin before you put armor on it.
I don't think you can really evaluate the gambison's "resistance" with such setup.
1) No control test.
2) Bouncy mannequin (makes a huge difference). Especially versus thrust.
It seems that most of the attacks that managed to get through, were in the shoulders area. Maybe that's why in the new suit the shoulders got extra protection
Lol UK. I have a question. If I'm not mistaken, you said something along the lines of "you'd die" when the lightning bolt went through. But it impacted whatever type of armor you have on the front of Tony. How far do you think it'd go if you gave him a lightning bolt back shot? To add to the thought, there's a certain set of youtubers who do testing on, I'm not sure how yt censors comments so bear with me, a very American type of weapon. Sometimes, the round can "defeat" the armor, but it would only be blunt force trauma and a pin prick. And those youtubers also use ballistic gel, which I could be wrong about this, but my understanding is that the gel isn't a good stand in for flesh, but a material that can be used as a control material for testing. The only person I know of that has something to approximate flesh was Paul Harrell Harrell (RIP), with his meat target. That would be a costly thing to do if you make weekly videos, but I'm curious
im curious if the leather effected the thrusting tests at all or if it was just the gambeson stopping them
Fun question: how protective would wearing several layers of t-shirts be? Like 3 - 5 to start?
pretty cool
Looks like the early tests show the top of the gambeson didn't fair as well as the lower part. Curious.
You should build and test sangos giant boomerang from inuyasha
a question about the bow.
does it have some weard kind of recoil ? i have avery similar one and wehen i shoot the bow wants to move after the arow is shot and i get alot of shock in my hand i only hav it with this kind of bow. how is yours?
welcome to the uk ha ha knifes just bounce of us true you can trust me lol
I’d like to see how the Steel mastery one fairs in comparison
So would I , perhaps they will supply one in the future for testing
Oh, I have the same bow, feels kinda like I'm shown on TV walking in the background in the news lol. Tbh for a cheapest epoxy bow it's pretty... normal? Just like this gambeson, does it's job, can hurt concrete wall and plastic door, and my poor umbrella. Don't put epoxy glue in a far drawer, those wooden levers on the ends are held only by superglue (in my case with a fucking lot of bubbles), and threads are only decoration.
the "cheap" gambeson is stiff and somewhat protective against thrusts and steep angled cuts...
Anybody thinking about making that thing in a slightly different form factor? like victorian age corsets for men and women?
you were right the first two times for arsenal lol.
You should reach out to steel mastery and test your current gambeson.
Why am i surprised you didn't have Nate wearing the gambeson??
Is a gambison a good winter coat? It looks warm and if I were going to spend the cash on a winter coat a stab resistant one seems nice. Coats are expensive and what if you have to go to England? LOL!
A well made gambeson is a fantastic Coat in my opinion , I wouldn’t but it as armour specifically like against knives but it ofc has some defensive properties👍🏼
Well it's a good thing you were wearing pauldrons
Isn’t it strange how you seem to make it through the Gambeson easy when not hitting the harder armour underneath when you hit the softer parts like a normal human it goes through
That is quite an assenal
Next Riddick blades...?
Could you test if its stronger to use three swords like Zoro?
Are you going to Britain?
Next episode: Tyranth Haircut with a Sword!
Hey bro.. just wondering.
Haven't seen you on shads channel nearly as much lately
That 2 years... You say it as if you are moving on Tyranth...
you have definitely grown
As an American you Ozzie's say it better
Bro... It's a thread material.. like Cotton...
Of course it will SLICE...
those are ment more for stabs
tony might not be the best medium underneath. I think a more realistic test is to put a chunk of meat underneath with a thin piece of leather and a tshirt.
So what you're saying is your gambeson is almost enough to protect you against Zeus himself
Based UK comment, grab my like
What do you think about me using a axe handle to prictice my sword movements is it about the right weight?
Around 1.3-1.6 kg (2.87-3.56lbs) is good average sword weight, axe handle is too light for that along with the shape being off.
If you don’t have money to spend on a cheap trainer then I would try to find a nice straight hardwood, handle weight won’t be perfect or distributed right but it’s a good start 👍🏼
@@ScreenTested thank you!
I am about at 8:00 in, and have not seen the result yet...
my prediction is it will have a similar result to a Baseball Bat.
(Edit to follow)
What did that poor camera ever do to you?
It promised to be good quality and never delivered haha 😂
Now test the new one you're wearing? :D
hmmmm maybe over here in europe we shuld start to wear these instead of normal jackets
Funny thing is I legitimately don’t think there would be a problem with it 99% of people wouldn’t know what it is and it just looks like a jacket
@@ScreenTested i mean you culd make a modernised version with pockets and noone wuld know, i mean shulr if you wuld just wear a gambasnon they wuld just think you are wearing a wierd jacket, well and as far as i know there is no law agains wearing armor
