Tip from a fashion designer. Bodice blocks always have darts ending right on the "peaks of the boobs", to not draw attention to these peaks or get a bullet bra effect, always shift darts that land on boob peaks a 2cm or so away from said peaks. Don't know if you knew this already but there yo have it.
i work in a fabric store and a good way to keep patterns for a long time is to use a type of interfacing! Its actually called like a pattern interfacing and its like a mix between paper and fabric, its thin, lightweight, can be folded and last a long time. Its just a tip i havent seen many people talk about and i only learned about it since working there
Your Instagram post sold this video! It's soooooooo perfectly fitted, I haven't even finished the video but I *KNOW* you nailed it. Also gurllllll, your earrings are always in point! Really appreciate the sample size of testers you went through to test the kit hahaha
I've been trying to make a basic bodice block for two days, and I'm screaming out of frustration! This video could not have come at a better time! THANK YOU!! Now I feel energized and like I can do this! You're the best!
I love the Lutterloh system, and have used it for years. The one thing to keep in mind is that it works better the closer your body is to being evenly proportioned (because it's based on a standardized human proportion, a la DaVinci Man). So you will have to make adjustments for individual body quirks like a large bust, swayback, long/short waist, etc. OTOH, you generally have to do that for any commercial pattern anyway, and commercial patterns are often graded to larger/smaller sizes from the core block in ways that distort proportions more the further off the standard size they get. Because of that, you usually get quite a bit closer to your own body shape with the Lutterloh system on the first go than you would with a commercial pattern. But a multi-measurement custom block will fit best since it captures all those quirks to begin with. So generally speaking, a Lutterloh pattern will end up somewhere between a custom block and a commercial pattern (and usually closer to the custom block, unless you are a significant proportional outlier).
This was such a timely video for me as I've just acquired my mother's Golden Rule book from Lutterloh two days ago. Hers is full of patterns from the 50's or 60's (I've been trying to get my hands on it for the last three decades or so!) and it's nice to see that while some alterations are likely to be needed, it's a useable system.
I love how the top turned out. You have great taste when it comes to choosing what you will make, colours and styles. Since I am not a sewer (I don't mean the sewer where water goes down into the waste), I can admire your work and hear, blah, blah, blah... knowing I can come back here when I get to where I can make something for myself. The final result for one was/is stunning and suits you, beautifully. Well done. Thanks for doing the comparison with three people of differing sizes. Very scientific.
Ugh this turned out amazing!! There's something so satisfying about perfectly tailored clothes that gets me, I may have to make my own pattern even though I've never sewn something from scratch before!
hey wendy! love your videos! I wanted to add a tip my sewing teacher taught me for bias tape on points like the front one. cut your bias tape in a v shape so that the middle point is the lowest point and conned two v's right sides together for a crisp right turn in your bias tape :)

Wendy, I've been watching you for years and admiring your skills and creations from the sidelines. But today I bought my first sewing machine. I'm scared and giddy and just wanted to say thank you. Your recommendations helped me pick my machine. I'm very intimidated but even more excited!!!
I’ve just started to get serious with sewing like 3 days lol, and you can’t believe how helpful this is!! I know this is all stuff I can probably learn on my own from watching other videos and reading various blogs, but you just make it so easy to follow and are honestly such a huge inspiration💛💛
Usually I feel anxiety watching sewing videos but you somehow make it very calming and like a forgiving humble environment Im really grateful that i found your channel
You explain this process so clearly and straightforward! I’m still very new to sewing and this was super helpful. I love that you tested the bodice on 3 people for data point analysis. Love some data science
I love how you invent your own patterns and are flabbergasted if you see the little book full of patterns. Your assistant got beautiful hands! Looks good.
Have been sewing since 2016 now (following your videos) and I just constantly get inspired by your content to try more and more complicated things! This is very helpful. Your channel is a library 👏 Thank you, Wendy.
I love this!!!!! that little book is a game changer for me, I don’t know how to read a pattern but I’m self taught and I have been making stuff too on my channel it’s really awesome not using a pattern however it hasn’t been quite as awesome when I am trying to make something for anyone other than myself I think the book method would make my whole life easier thanks for sharing 💕
This is so goooood!! I’m currently making the white cecilie bahnsen dress and I love the process so much 🤍🤍🤍 Will definitely make my own bodice blocks after it’s finished!
I have been looking at the Lutterloh System for months and just ordered it today because of your video. Thank you for all the information you provide ❣
@@lyndlsimington7562 it's going pretty well. I made a blouse with only a couple of errors. I added a separate button placket when I didn't have to. But that was my error cause it was my first time making a button down blouse. But it fits pretty good. I happy with the system.

I’ve been working on the bodice pattern for days on and off because mine was not looking like yours nor the blogpost whatsoever and I felt discouraged. But I pulled through and ended up with a near perfect fit, only had to adapt the neckline and the armholes! So happy I stuck to it and followed your lead!!
Very interesting overview, this must have taken a lot of time to film given all the contruction involved. I am trying out both techniques at the moment (made myself a DIY lutterloh ruler and following their jacket top demo). After playing with both approaches over the last day or so I believe it is possible to combine them to go even faster - by simply taking the width of the finished diagram of the Inthefolds blog and scaling it according to the desired bust width (DE line = bust line = bust size/2 + ease/2, as indicated in the blog). The other dimensions seem to follow naturally ... at least for the person I am attempting to draft the bodice for. Thanks a lot for all your content BTW ! I am a beginner trying to wrap my head around all this and your channel has been a great ressource.
The fit of the final top literally had me going "WOWWW" This is an awesome video with instruction and links, thank you for making it! I've watched you fall in love with your Lutterloh kit more and more and now I know how it all began 😄
I recommend using muslin fabric for drafting samples. It’s cheap woven fabric that comes in different weights depending on your final fabric. You won’t feel so bad about wasting pretty/nice fabrics😊
Hi Wendy! After watching this video sooo many times, I actually tried drafting my own perfect fit bodice block. After 7 hours and 2 attempts (am not proud of that), i got a perfect fit block! I tried the first method and I did get the same problems as you hehe. So happy with how it turned out!
