Tamega is a very decent dude. He help my buddy Eric get out of a very nasty situation in a massive swell in the north coast of Puerto Rico. My buddy got caught in the inside , 12 footers pounding him hard , Tamega came out of nowhere and got him to safety. This shit happen back in 1995 - 1997.
Jimmy Labragotto That's freaking SIIIIIIIIC😎😎😎😎 I PULLED A GUY OF A FREEWAY ONCE, military guy! Dude had been shot at a patking structure near the FREEWAY, he stumbled right on to it... IT WAS INTENSE JUST LIKE THIS SITUATION OR CLOSE TO IT. HE WAS THANKFUL.
To me this is humanity at its best. Congratulations guys. These guys are amazing to achieve what they did to get him in. I've surfed there and it's so treacherous, just navigating that inshore rip is a feat in itself.
That's a solid dude. The obrien fella. What's so funny to me is that he's rushing out to save this guy like a paramedic. Yet he pushes poopies so far into the danger zone. Lol . Poor poops
I was a lifeguard on the North shore for a couple years back in the 80's . The North Shore is no joke. I had the Coast Guard pull me and my drowning victim out of the water several times. There was no way I was getting me and a semi conscious person to shore in 8-10 ft surf , so we had a way to signal on shore for the person on shore to call for help! Some scary days back before everyone had Wave Runners and Cell Phones!!
JOB true Hawaiian waterman, best dude to have looking out for people, very few people in the world know that wave as well as JOB🤙, all the rescuers went out selflessly and risked their own lives to save a total stranger. God bless you all❤️
Great job guys. Always being alert of your surrounds makes you an ideal human being and prepares you to succeed in the very worse that life can throw at you. Watch and be aware of everything going on around you, then attack the most difficult situations.
If I wiped out at Pipe, I'd definitely want J.O.B. to save me. Those guys are stone cold heros. Jamie is a legend of the north shore and one of the best barrel riders you'll ever see.
All over the world, lifesavers (as we call them) risk their lives to save people who get into difficultiesin the ocean. The bulk are volunteers who give up the leisure time to be on duty. We hold all our first responders in the highest respect. There is no greater honour than to have saved a fellow human beings life.
@@Kevin-id7xk Only the fulltimers are called lifeguards. Only a few metropolitan beaches have them. The rest are lifesavers...the volunteers. I am one of them. We are members of The Royal Lifesaving Society.
When we surf there might not always be good wil felt between each other. But when something goes wrong almost all of us will help a fellow human being in need
hope the bodyboarder is ok. Shout out toTamega representing the brave brazilians. but the guy paddling on dry reef with that soft top got me right away.
90% of the time surfers are better at rescuing ppl drowning than the lifeguards are. We live in the water. We know how it works. This is a great example
Thats right. But in technical terms it want even a freaking wipeout. Just a barrel attempt. Unfortunately, this guy went from such a lovely feeling of being inside of a closeout, to a big bump on the reef. I suspect there is are two weight zones where over a reef less than 6ft you can bump your head most likely, even when pulling into a barrel. 1. Say Under ~140 lbs 2. Probably over 240 lbs Why can it be worse for those under 140 lbs? Well, if you fail to position yourself in the best manner during a closeout barrel, the wave can easily finds your center of mass and leads your head or feet first into the reef. Bad! A person weighing over 240 lbs possibly weigh his board down! (Like in the video); results in significant slow down on the board, and forces the bodyboarder to realign his/her board in order to have the best chance of being blown out the back, instead of going forwards with the lip bearing down on you. Regardless of your weight, if you practice preventing bottom contact at hollow beachbreaks and try to avoid sand burn while pulling into heavy, slamming waves, you'll have a really good chance at keeping the head away from the reef. This is just based off of my experiences in not breaking my neck in two feet of water at my homebreak for the last decade :)
Yeah, I'd say weight of the lip landing square on his head and back knocked him out. I'm not sure about the math but that must be like getting hit by a 250lb NFL linebacker for sure.
The wave seemed to expend all its force on him when it broke possably knocking him out.Im glad all ended happily ,especially with the able eyed helpers who were on it so fast.Well done all.
Great job boys, it happened to me I asked a surfer for help as I snapped my leash and was about to drown he laughed at me and was happy to watch me die luckily another surfer helped me , love that guy
Nothing worse than having tired arms from a long session, the sun's setting and you've been paddling to the shore for what feels like 5mins, but your further from the beach than you were a moment ago.
Catch surf surfboards saving lives! Awesome job to all👍🙏 we had a similar situation down at gas Chambers where a guy started having seizures after he got pounded from a good size set and I helped pull the dude up and we propped him up on his board and started to swim him to shore. The crazy thing was we were almost to the beach and the dude woke up and snapped out of it and was asking everyone what happened. All was well and I paddled back out to get my fix in for the day🤙🏽
God has angles in all of us and in the surf world there are many that risk their lives to save others rather on land or in the ocean their always watching and responding to this kind of situation.thank God for surfer's .
Happy the man survived but how I wish they showed these rescue videos followed right after they show a macho surfer mastering these huge waves like it was walking. When in reality it turns out a scary endless force
JOB is a lifesaver! How cool that all those other guys also paddled out and that the guy on the roof even saw it happen. Who composed the music for this, I didn't know John Williams composed orchestral music for surf films.. cool vid, subscribed!
Old post but the life guard stand is I would say over a football field away from pipeline so they wouldn't know until they saw everyone running in or someone calls them
bsmb091011 B in lifeguard training we are taught how to scan our water and we have binoculars that we frequently use. Had a rescue this summer that I saw from my stand before the public saw it. I ran about 150 yards to the victim.

The attitude in Hawai’i no matter if you surf or sponge, you are a waterman. Respect ✊
Amazing to see Tamega making the first approach out there, taking big waves on the head while holding the unconcious bodyboarder. Great respect

My respect for Jamie just went up so much. Solid guy
Totally agree, but then you had to ask: why wouldn't he... like every other person.
Gunnar Moeller but he has the courage to go up and save him in massive waves putting his life in danger
dude Jamie O'Brien was allready my favorite person on Earth and now this.
Thank you so much to all first responders who care so much for others' lives! God bless!

Kove him
ahahha Tamega was the one who got him. you funny
Fucking love Jamie
Zavier Orlos Jamie was the first one out
To say Pipeline is dangerous is an understatement..

Wow, they are obviously very used to doing this, it was like a well drilled team going into action, Bravo!

These are real heroes. God Bless em. And give em a few extra waves brah!

The sound affects were just perfect 👌

but the guy paddling on dry reef with that soft top got me right away.
Great to see from everyone involved. Helps to have someone like Jamie who knows Pip as well as anyone, including the lifeguards
Jamie O'Brien the real MVP that day..
Awesome rescue. Hilarious music. Jamie O’Brian is the man. Beat several lifeguards into the water.
90% of the time surfers are better at rescuing ppl drowning than the lifeguards are. We live in the water. We know how it works. This is a great example
Tamega seems to always find himself in the middle of these at pipeline its not his first encounter
J Iaela well he is also a lifeguard right there at Ehukai beach park these days, so that may have something to do with it
All balls, and the guts to charge, respect and God's got you , but b cool GOD is real busy now days.
What's scary is how innocuous the wipeout was.

Wipeout wasn't innocuous. Super late takeoff and got drilled by the lip of the wave. Took the brunt of all of the waves energy right on his head.
Great word.
@@striper37 Yeah back of head which is softest part. Like a Mike Tyson sucker punch! Ouch...
