Have an 941, I love it for large batch , but I needed a smaller one. So when hubby wanted another piece of machinery, I said sure as long as I get a Smaller All American. It's in the mail.

I use plain chapstick on my rim/sealing surface.... So easy and clean. I bet the flavored ones would be just fine.

Tamales work great in these as well. And yes they can get oxidized inside and out with no major issue. Times are a changing, older canners had French warnings instead of Spanish.

I've found E-bay is often a place to find an All-American Canner at a decent price. Typically they are the older style and have a different petcock and a dial. They can easily be fitted with the modern, weighted petcock by removing the old and slipping on the new style purchased from All-American. So please don't be worried that the canner you find is the older style. It's easy-peasy to replace any and every part. I've done it several times. The little round, rubber safety piece is easy to get and replace, too.

I have a 925 and love it. Mine sticks all the time, I use a screwdriver to lift it up a smidgen. One thing though is I can rarely see the steam venting. I check it everytime to see light through it, a little water spurts out so I also know it's not clogged and I can feel it as it's boiling but I can't see the steam. And that's with my presto also. I use both canners on my glasstop stove. I use cast iron on it also, no problems. FYI Amazon has some AA in stock!!!

I love both my All American and my Presto canners. I just recently received my moms old Presto canners. They are as heavy duty as my AA canner! They are heavy and work like a work horse. I did replace everything that needed to be replace and they work like a charm! I was surprised that they are as thick as the All American canners! I now have 4 canners but I will be sharing with my daughters because they are learning to can with me now!

Weighted gauges do not need to be tested...they do not go out of calibration...many websites giving info. on this. This canner is the best to have...no need to have a rubber seal being replaced either. Edit to add...no rubber seal. With years of experience using this canner...light petroleum jelly on the seal works better than oil. Also, if lid won’t open...which is usually due to using too thin of oil for the seal...use a bottle opener...lightly lift on one side...move over a few inches...do the same...opens right up.

You can use them for cooking. If it gets up to pressure and sterilizes your jars on the inside and outsides of your jars, if it has enough moisture in the caner it will sterilize the inside of your canner when cooking with it. f you do not like the idea of your food next to the aluminum, you can cook with an inserted pan of stainless steel, or a large bowl of stainless steel and you would be good to go. I've cooked in my very old (with brass thumb screws) National canner, the stew I cooked came out fine.

PS...there are two reasons that I see why it is not recommended to pressure can on a glass stove-top. First is the canner is larger than the burner. Could cause heat to spread out to surface not meant to have the heat. Second, if canner is slid across the surface of the stove rather than lifted...could damage the stove. Scratches. Have pressure-canned on a glass-top stove for four years with no problem. Edited for typos.

Thank you Linda. Great information for a new All American canner like me. So glad you addressed the fact that your canner was sticking and locked down. I didn’t know you could use the claw of a hammer. I was using a flat screw driver where you lock down your canner. Hopefully mine will stop soon. I’ve only used my canner 4 times so far. Looking forward to your next UA-cam video.

Please give us a little more detail about the weighted pressure regulator. If the pressure gauge is nonfunctional and for what ever reason can not be replaced is it entirely safe to use only the weighted pressure regulator? Do weighted pressure regulators ever wear enough to lose accuracy? How does the same weight do three different pressures? What is the five pound pressure used for. How is an All American pressure sterilizer different from an All American pressure canner? Can the regular pressure canner be made to do both functions safely? Thank you

    QUESTION
After rebuilding after a total loss house fire I bought a presto canner but it’s been a few years and needs to be replaced.
Here is my question…even though I’ve canned for 40 years I always used a Gauge canner. Used to be that the local USDA extension office would check your gauge for free each year to make sure it was calibrated correctly. Now they won’t. Because of all the crazy going on now I figure it’s safer to just go by the weighted gauge. So… if something I’m canning says to can at 12 lbs of pressure do you go higher at 15 lbs or use the 10 lb setting. Also what is the difference between the round 5 10 15 weight and the weighted rings on some canners.
I have a glass top but from what I can tell the diameter is the issue. I was on the phone with hours with my stove mfg.
I figure if I’m going to have to replace a canner the AA is something I could pass on when I’m gone if it’s taken care of properly.
Who knows I might hit the jackpot and win the one being given away for canuary lol
Thanks Linda for all the great canning videos you make. You always seem
To have everything so together you inspire the rest of us

I have a canning question....I have an old Italian man with a restaurant near me & every time I go, I come home with 8 styrofoam cups of his marinara! I could literally drink it, it is SO good! My question is....can I can that marinara so it will be shelf stable? There's no meat in it but it is quite greasy....so I'm not sure if I should pressure can or water bath can. I would appreciate your input! Thank you!

You should only can tested recipes. For tomato sauce, the acid level varies by recipe and tomato, so there's no way to tell if it would be safe. Better to freeze it.

I have the 921...brand new. It constantly leaks steam out of the excess pressure valve. I've took it out and readjusted it several times. Try again and it still does. Once. It gets anywhere near 10 pounds it's as strong as what was coming out of the weight valve before putting the weight on (the 10 minute). I'm new and don't know what yo do??

I have a new induction cook top with convention oven. I love it but to my immense disappointment, I can no longer use my All American canner because it's made of aluminum thus is not magnetic. I fervently hope that All American will make a stainless steel canner soon, otherwise I'll be restricted to using my Presto pressure canner.

Go for the best! Worth it. No worrying about gaskets, etc. and there is not yearly recalibration of the gauge...info. here was not correct. Use vaseline every third time to seal well. Oil just too thin and have to reapply all the time. One of my top five purchases ever. I’m glad I didn’t invest in a presto canner, etc. saved me headaches in the long run.

I am looking into getting an All American but can’t decide between the 925 or the 930. I have an 18 quart presto right now, but i want the All American in case the grid goes down for one. Which canner would you recommend? My husband thinks i should get the 930 so that i can do bigger batches. Do you have to have the canner completely full or can you do like 7 quart jars instead of the 14 quart jar capacity in the 930?

Chris, It was a defect in the casting process...or when it was manufactured.
