  • Today I went to an awesome old school video rental store and showed a bunch of the big box horror vhs tapes.
We also talk about the new Todd Solondz film Dark Horse which stars Jordan Gelber, Selma Blair, Mia Farrow, Christopher Walken and Justin Bartha

It was cool seeing those again, I remember being freaked out as a kid by the popcorn box but always looking at it. Our grocery store had lots of these. I'd rent Nintendo games on the weekend and wonder over to the horror section. Cool video

dude, seriously, I envy you. I've been hooked on your videos for over a month now, just found them by accident. that video store looks amazing. just give me an air mattress, a cooler worth of sandwiches and pop, maybe a pillow, shut the door and lock me in that place for a week. just looking at some of those videotapes bought back memories. AWESOME!

I miss looking at the amazing art that vhs boxes had. Wish dvd/blurays would have artwork like that.

This is an ongoing discussion I have with people. Am I the only one that kinda misses vhs tapes? They just to me have the same feeling like old Vinyl records. Just cool to own, especially the rare ones if you can find them.

He's a collector, not a pirate. A digital copy (legal OR illegal) has no value. No sentimental value, no collector's value, and no resell value. A tape, DVD, Blu-Ray or any other solid piece of media has all of those. It's cool to have the artwork, the physical releases of something on your shelf. Each one holds a memory and each one is worth something. A downloaded movie is just a bunch of code.

That store brought back memories for me of going to video rental stores and renting movies. I remember renting "The Outing" when I was younger. I thought it was pretty good. There were tons of horror movies I use to rent and I also use to own a lot, but they took up too much room and I had to sell them off. I still have a few that aren't on DVD.I also couldn't believe the rare DVDs they had "555" What a great store.

He's not ugly, and faaaaar from a loser. Unless you consider being very close to a celebrity- really a personality, being a loser. He also got popular the right way, not by being a stupid fool to get to a level of almost being famous, but because people actually like him. He may be "fat" now, but I think that helped him get where he is today, not like wouldn't have anyway, he's very likable, but it distinguishes him from others doing the same kind of thing.

fear anxiety and depression is one of my all time favs. I own it on VHS. my basement is a mini replica of that video store. I miss the good old day mom and pop shop video stores where the cult section were twice as big as the current releases. great stuff coolduder! you have impeccable taste!

Man... That reminds me of my childhood when I used to constantly go back to the horror section of the video store and look at all the old tapes there. They would scare the crap out of me because of their covers and the mystery surrounding them, but I was ALWAYS going straight to the horror section of any video store back then. I would be in heaven if I were at that place you're showing!

My town used to have a store like this that still rented VHS movies. It was a great place to rent older horror movies that haven't made the transition to DVD. 5 movies for $5 for two days, but if you rented them Friday you could keep them til Monday for the same price since they were closed on Sunday. Unfortunately, the place has closed down since then. I still miss it.

Funny thing is, even nowadays, I can still find VHS tapes for sale in charity stores, and for excellent prices, and sometimes, even some big movies aren't available (or super rare) on DVD or Blu ray, and if you get lucky, you'll find it in one of these.

Truly a great store with so many movies I have yet to watch! I love viewing these older Coolduder videos that I had already watched over 6 years ago! I miss the BIGGIE SIZED Coolduder to be totally honest, but glad he is much healthier now. He was just such a lovable big guy and just a more interesting looking character and his size brought out his character more back then in my personal opinion. I seen nearly every movie he was in thus far but he is sadly much easier to miss/overlook in movies now a days after his amazing weight loss transformation.

One thing i remember about the old VHS horror film tapes is the box would many times have grusome pictures of something - some monster, alien or killer that was not even in the movie. Kind of like a bit of false advertising to make you think the movie was gonna be good-when it really was not.

Shawn, on the subject of old vhs, I remember a movie box that I've only seen once. I think it was called The Big Apple, it was a horror film, gruesome from the images on the box. maybe about new york but the box had a guy shoving a knife in a young girls face on the back. This was probably around 1987 saw it to rent only that one time but it stuck in my head. Looked like 70s quality photos. Your probably one of the few who may know what the movie was.

Oh if i knew then what i know now of how much a lot of old VHS tapes go for i would have grabbed them all. He moved his store to who knows where and i doubt he still has the tapes.

And Shawn, when I saw you guys were in the cult horror VHS section, I thought I'd look for Grim Prairie Tales. Sure enough, I pause, and there it is. Ever seen that one? I know the director. There's something intriguing about old VHS tapes, kind of like a record. I collect classic rock records and horror VHS's. They take up space, but they look cool. They are also conversation pieces. You do know that VHS copies of movies are often altered when they are later put into DVD and other formats don't you Even if you can download the same exact copy, to me that is a "faceless" movie, just like music without even being the real CD is facelesscan make your own, or but imitation, still...
