I love the fact that you do not hide the mistakes/ flaws in the build. .Also Jay, you got yourself a great spouse there dude; she just supports you in everything you do and even when things aren't going quite right, she doesn't crack on you for it . I can't wait to see the rest of this build and it's completion.
Jay, you should also put another L angle iron bracket for the post on the side of which you had to move the girders to BEEF it up a bit for safety since only about an inch of it is supported on the post. That way the load can go through the angle iron bracket into the post more. Cheers. Good stuff.
I figured something out about Jay. He knows his stuff. And on the Perkins channel, he plays at not knowing stuff. Because he is the stand-in for the audience. His part in the video is to allow them to explain to us what is going on. He is a lovable goofball and fits the role. That is why I like him. He is a me in a different state and profession.
Love that you show your mistakes and how you fix them. We're all human and nobody is perfect. Thanks for bring us along and letting us in on your life. ❤
Thanks Jay! It is always fun to see Stefanie helping out. When you work with her, it is like when my wife helps me. Lots of extra instructions. Thanks for the follow-up on attachmenting the post & the extension cookies.. Yoy are closing in on 100k subs. It looks like it will be a good Christmas gift for you! KUTGW!!😊
My husband and I have fellow the Perkins brothers for as long as I can remember. You were always a hoot to watch on their show. So having your own show was a great move. What a fun and delightful show you have. I tell everyone to watch, but be sure to start with episode one. My husband said he’s so glad you explain each step as you work. We can’t wait to see the final build.
Good work team. Thanks Ray. Jason owes you big time. That kind of work is new but yet sort of remodeling all at once. Over build - no way. Always go with 8x more than safe. And, be safe all
Jay, did you just give us subscribers an early Christmas present? Stephanie and Ray in an over 30 minute long BJW episode, you sly dawg, you. Happy Christmas to you, Stephanie, Ray and all your families and friends.
Jay, enjoying seeing the project come along. I would recommend you eventually replace the deck screws you used for the post bases with the Simpson screws since they are less brittle and rated for structural use. Keep up the good work.
You continue to amaze with the complexity of the remodeling of your home. Your lovely first assistant is to commended for her willingnesses to help with your projects. Really enjoy watching. Ken
My wife helped me on a few projects on the house. The last one was mixing concrete for deck footers. She ended up working with a fully torn supraspinatus that she didn't know she had done before hand. Beasted through it. Love that woman.
Anotherrrr real good video, Jay( and Lovely Missus Lady). Those Tecovas work boots do look the business. Especially since they are totally waterproof. The rain around here lately has sent me back to wearing gumboots; big floppity, mud grubbers I bought ten years ago and two sizes too big so as to wear an extra pair of warm socks. And those rubberbuggers don't have a steel toe and we have had some close calls dropping stuff on 'em. ( I dug them out of the garden shed and didn't remember to check for critters who had taken residence then got a thrill when something moved after I shoved a double socked foot into it. "IT MOVED' high kicks and flings like a Scottish dancer. Maybe one of us EEECKED or squeeked a bit, but I am sure it was the little brown mouse which flew out.)
Jay, thank you so much for releasing your videos, they help tide me over between seeing you all on Erik's videos. As a side note I learned something new today, I didn't realize anybody outside of the Texas/Oklahoma area wore ropers, I thought the rest of the country wore riding heel boots.
Jay, make sure you take into account the coriolis effect on the girder when making them flush...the torque, implied in minutes and seconds, is pretty significant. Too much implied torque...boom, someone in Australia falls into a worm hole. It's not as prevalent in North America because we pull up on the girder and the Auzzies pull down so we don't have the worm hole issue. Anyway, as always, I enjoy the videos. Keep it up. ❤
Jay, If your post brackets are galvanized steel you need to use galvanized screws otherwise there will be a metal on metal reaction and the screws will rust out very quickly. It’s a metal on metal thing which is why unless coated they rust or eat away the softer metal item. There are charts you can google that’ll tell you compatible metals and coatings that be ok to use but otherwise, swap them out.
Say hey, Jay! Woo hoo, almost 10K subscribers. Good work brother! Just so you don't feel so bad about your "mistakes" just remember you learn what not to do next time. I also gotta say that your helper in the first part of the video is better looking than the helper with the beard. But your wife must really love you to come out and work so hard helping you, and especially not giving you a hard time when you make mistakes. 😅
Honestly a lap splice across the joint with some thicker steel or wood member would be fine, but I agree his solution will not adequately transfer moment across the joint
I told Santa and sent him the link with your promo code for the PBTB (Perkins Brothers Tool Belt). I even told him there is no need for gift wrap if that sweetens the deal.
Here a message from The Netherlands. I think Ray is a great friend and college to help you as much as he does but I prefer seeing Stephanie at your side. Looks far more better than Ray : >) Regards from The Netherlands and I wish you Happy Christmas and the best wishes for 2025
Could be done, but the post would be more expensive than the bracket and the existing post should have more than enough capacity to support the expansion. Also, if he put the extra post too close it’d be hard to get a new footing in right next to the existing one 👍🏻
Hey there ! Pardon my ignorance, but wouldn't it weaken the wood overtime to recover the exposed wood with dirt ? Or is it a special kind of wood ? Thanks :)
He’s using pressure treated timbers for this. The wood is soaked with a solution, I believe it’s a type of copper salt, that helps repel rot. The posts he bought are likely listed as ground contact as they are intended for this use and will hold up for many years 👍🏻
@@zacharybyrne9723 Thank you very much for that answer ! As I'm not american I'm a bit less familiar with this type of wood. Very interesting nonetheless.
Are you kidding Jay makes Jamie sound like a mute. Way too much talking to the point I turn the sound off and go fast forward and maybe even a thumbs down.
Im curious on your cut and shimmed posts why not nail some treated two byes rip them to width and thru bolt upper and lower posts it would never be able to move enough to cause y'all problems out of all your whole build on this it's the only thing i think HMMM ALSO YOUR BOOTS WILL LAST YOU FOR YEARS AND SOME.
I agree, some sort of splice that could develop the moment across that joint should be used. Those thin plates he has can help with uplift and very lite bending loads but I wouldn’t trust them for any real lateral force
The screws are actually the more preferred method. The screws with the correct placement pattern are code approved and a more predictable fixture method than adhesive which can loosen with moisture and temperature. The adhesive also does not work as well in shear as it does in tension, but the screws and nails have great shear capacity, which is how the load is transferred between the boards 👍🏻

A good man has the support of a good wife. Great vid Jay :) You guys are so fab :)
Not forgetting Ray, damn that lad is a hard worker :)
Almost at 100k subs. Atta boy Jay!
Bro - between your talented wife and Jones, you are seriously crew'd up! Great work, great video!

Amen to that !!!!🥰
Congrats Jay and Steph on that beautifully level joist!🎉
I think you should of zip tapped or DPM'd round the bottom of the posts before adding the dirt back over them to prevent rot in the future
I like watching building jay’s way, to see how many stuff up’s he makes. What a paper weight.
Just when I thought your videos couldn't get any better than they already are. Awesome to see you getting the Tecovas sponsorship.
Let’s get Jay to 100,000 subs, Let’s Go!❤
Great Video Bud 👍👍This job is really looking so good and solid 👍👍Love the Teamwork 🥳🥳
You’re going to need a 100” plasma tv for that room you’re going to build, everything’s going smoothly so far. Always fun to watch…….👍👍
Let's go... 100K for Jay
Super Steph for super assist!
Thank you for the video!

You don’t have that liberty 😂. Luxury 😊
Dude! ALMOST 100,000 SUBS!!!
Nice job !! Enjoyed watching the process!
Looking pretty darn stout! Y'all take care..
Nice video Jay, Merry Christmas to you and your family!
You have a great wife to help you out Jay. I like how you explain what you are doing.❤
You got yourself a good one there Jay. Lucky guy. Also, love the project.
Progress!
love you brother so good work
Great job Jay ! Make sure you listen to your helper she the real boss! lol.mike Peabody,Massachusetts 21:12

Great to see husband and wife working together.
God bless you Jay! I pray that your holidays with the family is heart warming and cherishing in Jesus name
You should definitely put a scab on both sides of the two sets of girders you put in since the one side doesn’t have very much lap.
Your videos are always better when your better half is featured. 😊

Yessss!!!!
I’d definitely replace those posts that have been cut in two
Nah! They are wrapped in tinfoil, they'll be just fine until he sells
Honestly a lap splice across the joint with some thicker steel or wood member would be fine, but I agree his solution will not adequately transfer moment across the joint
Double headed axe to split wood, almost willing to bet you got it during a LARPing event!
Merry Christmas and Happy New year yo all!👋🙏
You definitely should not cover the posts with dirt. They are ground contact rated but will still rot in 20-25 years when in contact with soil.
Been waiting for a new video
I instantly got hongry when he said BEEF it up.... and he's just talking about lumber... lol
Steph and jay back together just like the A-Team 🪚🪚🔨🔨 Ray a good help to 😂
I was waiting for you to drop the next vid 😂
I told Santa and sent him the link with your promo code for the PBTB (Perkins Brothers Tool Belt). I even told him there is no need for gift wrap if that sweetens the deal.
Her first grider 😂😂
100k by Xmas, nearly there! 😅

Thanks?
Where are those kids. Let them experience building and working with dad! Tell them it part of their rent payment...lol!
Let’s get the Jamie reaction video to this!
Hi guys ❤
As you know from working with the Perkins, everyone makes mistakes. Good carpenters know how to fix them on the fly
With respect sir, you have a good woman there
I think you speak as much as Jamie does😂 where is the Lexxel baby?😮
Jay, sweetie, the term you keep trying to say is "Voilà" with a V ❤❤
I hope 100K sub's by Christmas!!
Every time you guys say “split the d” I can’t help but cackle😂 guess I should get my mind out of the gutter!😅
What model of drone are you using for your videos
Jay keep them 2x12s for your step stringers buddy 🤔
Curious as to why you didn't lap your sections of the girders?
Ray is my guy(no Diddy)! He's the coolest. All the guys are great. I love you guys channels. 🤘🏾
Almost 100k lfg.
👍👍
Hey Jay, if the members of the perkins crew were a tool which tool would they be?
You should 1x6 dress the posts you cookied. Really dress it up and add more support
How you liking the Uforce? I've got the 600 and i love it!
Maybe it's too late. Why not add another post next to the existing deck post for structural support instead of the angle bracket?
Could be done, but the post would be more expensive than the bracket and the existing post should have more than enough capacity to support the expansion. Also, if he put the extra post too close it’d be hard to get a new footing in right next to the existing one 👍🏻
wish my wife helped like stephanie did what cool chick hahahahahahahahaha
I was gonna tell you bout the screws sticking out too far. But I think it would not make a difference.
Girder? I hardly know her.

Let jamie talk!😂
Let Jay talk
Are you kidding Jay makes Jamie sound like a mute. Way too much talking to the point I turn the sound off and go fast forward and maybe even a thumbs down.
Keep talking! I enjoyed watching the video.
👌👍😅😎
When the nails where going thru in about 8 minutes in you could have just angle the nails a little and they wouldn’t go through
Why do you put dirt over your post footing brackets???? Surely the brackets will rust out more quickly.
Jay, how did you go on with getting a permit
Instead of doing all the angle iron stuff, could you just set another post beside that one

Wow. What a gorgeous woman.. who is that? 😍 Surely can't be your wife... You're a toad!
Oh my goodness you have such a beautiful wife how did you get so lucky...😊
Don't worry about things that don't look right that will be covered up. No one will know. Unless you point it out or have a You-Tube channel.
Why is this video in Spanish? no hablo español
Something is going on. Ai is translating it for some reason?
@@Building_Jays_Way Maybe AI has found that Spanish speaking people are your bigger audience and are trying to help?!? 🙂
Why didn't you put construction adhesive between each of these 2x12s to make them even stronger. They look good but you need strength.
Also you going to joint the gerders to the old part of the porch with some plates?
The screws are actually the more preferred method. The screws with the correct placement pattern are code approved and a more predictable fixture method than adhesive which can loosen with moisture and temperature. The adhesive also does not work as well in shear as it does in tension, but the screws and nails have great shear capacity, which is how the load is transferred between the boards 👍🏻
Is there any reason why this video is translated with an aweful sounding AI language i don't understand ?
Why no english anymore ?
