Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on UA-cam, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on UA-cam. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on UA-cam, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.

Peter Gabriel should be knighted for his selfless dedication to combatting injustice around the world, let alone his contributions to music, culture and technology. His is a fascinating biography. Though it seemed devastating at the time, I'm so glad he left Genesis in 1975 to pursue his solo career. One of my personal heroes. You can never listen to too much PG. Thanks!

This whole concert is a must see. BOTH concerts....GROWING UP and STILL GROWING UP. His own daughter was old enough to perform as a backup singer in them.

Space is a wonderful thing, and I love the way it is used here, giving power to the melody and emotion.

Stunning song. Version on Fripp's album, Exposure, is truly haunting and, in my opinion, the best…

Shawn, glad to see your appreciation for this performance!!! I have always loved Peter Gabriel's chord and melody progressions. I don't know if you have much of a chance to read the comments, but I highly recommend you checking out from this Growing Up tour "Red Rain" and "Downside Up". "Downside Up" starts out as a beautiful melody with his daughter, and then turns into a stage performance like something you've never seen before!! I just saw Peter Gabriel 4 months ago in Austin, and really, really recommend checking out "Downside Up" from this Growing Up tour!!!

Wonderful reaction, thanks Shawn😊 ❤This is my favorite performance of this song, but I love the early studio versions (on his album and Robert Fripp's album) also, as well as a third version he put on his 1990 compilation album 'Shaking the Tree.'

The simpler composition is certainly beautiful and powerful. Although I've never had a problem with the more produced - more epic - sound of the original.

Tbh I love all versions of this song. Dick Wagners solo on the original and the fat drums is absolutely fantastic. The Fripp one, and even more so, this naked, spars and hauntingly solemn version is as good as it gets.
    Tearing up every time.

"A thousand minds within a flash" now means more to me. Thank you! I had heretofore only considered the physical, geographic flood..especially since Robert Fripp, on "Exposure" (hint, hint) back in 1980, prefaced the more somber version with a snippet from JG Bennett talking about climate change, and the oceans rising, and great cities like London and Calcutta, flooding because of these unspeakable changes. "They should happen in 40 years if not sooner" Bennett warned. It has now been 44 years, and here we are, a flooding world...because of said unspeakability. Powerful medicine this song. These cats were not only decades ahead musically, they were also intellectually.

The song is about something that happens that allows everyone to read everyone's else's thoughts. The 'flood' is the flood of information raging in everyone's heads.

Both versions are great, both worth listening.

Shawn, your interpretation is my thinking as well, but Peters lyrics are minimalist so he keeps it open to how a listener senses from it particularly using water as a metaphor.

Such a powerful song! I like your take, but Peter's explanation is pretty deep. Not unexpected. Gabriel is very thoughtful as well as extremely musical.

I like your take, I had thought something similar. One of my favorite cuts on the first solo. I also like the Fripp version.

my wife would always give me that evil eye head shake and walk away whenever I put this song on when her period started.

I loved the original version until I heard this - he just lays it bare here. Try reading Childhoods End by Arthur E. Clark (1954) for another look at this same concept.

Personally I think the original is much better
