I lot of folk, know that her Dad was this famous minister...and that he signed record deals that distributed his sermons, which eventually made him a well to do-man. But he also sang....and CL Franklin, was one HELL OF A SINGER. Search his songs on UA-cam, and you'll hear what Im talking about. And it also doean't take long to see that his singing voice had a profound effect on Aretha's singing style...where it almost sounds like she's preaching, while she's singing, like her father. You hear a LOT of that in her rendition of Redding's classic. And she got that straight from her Dad, who basically invented a preaching technique called "whooping"..which is a synonym for 'squalling"..and an example of that is here @1:41. Aretha set herself apart from most of the singers of her day, by infusing more of her singing with what she knew best...and what no one else was doing, is what she capitalized on "injecting the music stylings of the black church into popular music culture". And her and Ray Charles did it better than anyone else.
Oh. That's what she meant when she said in an interview, that her father taught her the trade secrets of performance, very much in the style of a super charismatic orator, spiritually magnetic, and hypnotic.
look harder, and you see Shirley Caesar, pretty much seated front and center..in white gown. Roberta Flack, a few rows behind Diana, but seated on the end of row, on the other side of the aisle....Billy Joel, directly across from Diana with legs spread, wearing white sneakers....Michael McDonald sitting right behind Dionne. I have 20/15 vision...so, I see EVERYTHING.
The greatest of them all Queen Aretha!! Love you my Queen Aretha!
She looks so radiant here! Aretha had such a vibrant spirit! 😆🙌🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾
I really do believe the Queen's music was in more movies than any other artist, what do you think?
