Yep, this is the time period when things were starting to switch over vocally. Well really in late 1980 on. But no matter what throughout the years Aretha always made it work.
Oh please Aretha got better and better.. Aretha was very young when she first started recording. She smoked her entire career and drank. Most singers voice do change with age not necessarily because they did something to damage it. Some people prefer the raspy sound. If you can sing, you can sing and if you can't, you just can't! Aretha never took a turn. She was hitting high notes until she literally passed away
Yessir this got the Queen a Grammy 🔥🔥🔥 4:37 Re caught the spirit lol!!! No Matter what era, what genre, what decade, what age, Aretha was going to DELIVER 🙌🏾💯🐐👑❤️ Whether it was 1956 or 2014, she was bringing that heat.
There is an Aretha appearance on the Flip Wilson Show where she imitates other divas (including Diana Ross). This is supposed to be hilarious and a spot-on impression, but I can't find it anywhere. (This is referenced in the David Ritz book RESPECT.) If you come across it I hope you will share it!
That 1981 voice! Clarity and smoke. The still easy high notes. Excellent repost.

@@faznout I would consider late 1982 the time of the switch but I get what you're saying.

This audience over here is trying to “cool down “ too lol
She looks depressed in her eyes here.
- Yeah, she was going through a lot during this time period. She was still a trooper, though.
Maybe the audience was cold?
Well her dad was in a coma
