Just bought a pair of these off eBay that are practically new. I see what you’re saying with the couplers spreading with each use. When it spreads there’s what looks like a slight ripple in the leather right next to the white strings connecting the center piece. Is there any know way of treating/strengthening the leather with like a leather conditioner or something that can be done to prevent that problem in the future?
@dthombs I was just watching one of them go for over $700 on eBay just today... that's just plain nuts, but then again it was in brand new condition. Even so, I didn't dare jump into the fray. That's way more than I'm willing to pay for them, as much as I love the design. Been watching your other reviews. You're doing a great job, I learn a lot from 'em. I'll let you know if I ever get any questions on particular Oakleys, though you've pretty much covered what I'm searching for at this point.
Hey Dan, I just got my Oakley Crater off ebay. there is a problem, the right earstem doesnt open all the way such that, if you remove the t-shock, the jet intake icon does NOT go into the gap usually filled by the t-shock, which means metal from the earstem is coming against metal somewhere. long story short I now have one stripped screw from messing with it too much, but it is out of the frame thankfully. are they the same as Juliet hinge screws? so I can get oakley to send me a set..cheers
Dan Thombs, those have to be the sickest glasses ever. I have a pair of Mars Craters with black iridium. Just a couple questions do you think that I can get oakley to cut Gold iridium frames for these, and would it be a crime to wrap these in leather yourself.
Oakley won't custom cut lenses unless it's part of an Rx order, but then you pay huge premiums. I know a few people who have done custom leather or even denim. I don't think it a crime, and if you just sew it on, then you could always revert it to stock.
Love these sunglasses and would love to own a pair, but unfortunately you're right on about those eBay sellers charging a fortune for one. It's hard enough to find one up for auction and then the price just skyrockets. It's insane. Had to settle for the regular Crater and X Metal frames, which are still great. Solid and informative review. Keep up the good work.
I'd love to have one of those medicine cabinets but everyone that comes on eBay they won't a fortune for them. They were made to go on the side of the double cases weren't they? What was supposed to go in them ?
Yea I know what you mean most of mine as been on eBay and even thou I have a few glasses I have a fortune in them, thanks for your responses and have a good one !!!
@dthombs how did you fix it? just sent it to oakley? i found where the metal is interfering, its on the inside face there is no gap between the arm and the part of the frame that stops the arm when you close them. thanks for that info, I'll get oakley to send me one. ps whats the eta for a new video?
Where can you find them then? I look all the time on ebay but I cant afford the outrageous prices they are wanting. so any info you can give I would Love it thanks Chris
At this point, it's a tough find. It's true those selling them now have unreasonable prices, but those don't really sell. People are convinced they are worth that, so basically nothing moves. Off considering there were so many, you could get them for $50 in 2005.
+frumpyb I was able to get replacement lenses easily around the 2005 timeframe, so I picked up some Black and Ruby, then mixed them around. At this point, there aren't too many out there that are factory. My original Gold Iridium lenses started bubbling in the back though.
I would never go for fakes. The materials are sub par, and optics will give you headaches. The prices for Mars are outrageous nowadays, so I wouldn't really know how to get one these days, outside of a time travel machine. Sometimes one will slip by in an auction style.
Pretty much, and I've spent the past 12 or so years digging into their history and product offerings. Plus with the expansion of the Community, I've had a lot of input.
I used to be in OAKLEYS since 1982 (BMX days) I have lost all interest since LUXOTTICA CORPORATION bought them from there I went to WILEY X SUNGLASSES and can't stand when a corporation from outside of USA has the right to buy an American company. And it's very cliche to have all the OAKLEY'S SUNGLASSES made in the USA and being owned by another foreign country.
Back when I made this, I could get them for between $50-150, but those days have passed. I've come to terms with the fact that I'm not in the financial position to ever buy another X-Metal, but thanks for the offer.
Gosh these are my favorite design of the mars Oakley ever made. I love how different they were, even among the mars line.
Back when I first started collecting, these just seemed so out of the ordinary. I miss being able to wear them, but the suede just doesn't hold up.
great review. it's good to know the pros and cons of any model
Tyler Durden sunglasses... Nice!
Just picked up a pair of Ruby, for a crazy good price compared to what I've been seeing them go for. I lucked out, and they should be here TOMORROW!!
Always stand out on Other xmetals!

Really great reviews, brother! I hope that you're still making them!
I Still Have My T-Wire From 1998 And They Are Still In Mint Condition, Even Though I`ve Used Them Alot. Love Wearing Them !
MrChallenger76 Awesome, those are a classic.

GREAT REVEIW I WANT TO ASK YOU A QUESTION HOW MANY OAKLEY CASES DO YOU HAVE. I'M LOOKING FOR ANOTHER ONE MYSELF

This is a masterpiece, greetings from Brazil🇧🇷

You are right man eBay is crazy !! If you don't mind I ask what's your way of finding Oakleys over the years?
I just finished watching Blade II and I think that there is a pair of mars in the end. But I could be wrong.

these glasses are awesome. where can i get these from?
They have long been out of production, so the only way to get them is through ebay, at greatly inflated prices.
Hi Dann. Do you know where I can get the leather redone on my craters? The Oakley Forum was no help. Thanks !!
In case you never found a place, most leather specialty stores will do it for you.
Would you consider selling ?

I still have mine, but the lenses have decayed. Bought in 1999, and looking for replacement lenses for years. What lenses did you get?

hey I have a pair in mid conditions, where would be the best place to sell them
Milton Vazquez id be willing to buy if the price is right
How much? If you don't mind me asking.

I have a pair. In college right now so im looking to sell these :(
+linkinduck94 about 300 bucks
Donde se puede comprar esta edición ? saludos desde stgo de chile.
Amigo vendo esa misma edición de lentes, si está interesado escríbame a mi instagram _xinoooo._
assume that the 'tune up' service has long gone?
I believe they can still help. Try calling Customer Service to see.

Shell?
how do you know so much about Oakley, just an avid collector?
Pretty much, and I've spent the past 12 or so years digging into their history and product offerings. Plus with the expansion of the Community, I've had a lot of input.
Mars Jordan 1998 ?

The frog's name was Jupiter
Awesome review! I love the comment about EBAY, and i'm going to take a wild guys and say frogger??
I guess these things still cost like a G?
Probably, I haven't looked lately. Seems a good amount ended up in Brazil with third party lenses.
WHAT?? I seen on ebay right now its at like 815 i think wow
now mars crater is like 450$ to 600$ and to get the michael jordon edition hah! like 1100$
Thanks a lot.
I really would like a pair . But ya .a lot more expensive. And i. I only find them on eBay . At silly money
It's been that way for a while. People love the old X-Metals, and there's only so many around at this point.
I agree
I owned a pair of these, I paid $350. They looked cool but not on me, I sold them for $40 to my fried and he resold them for $200 lol.
+ink ink Ouch, friends should profit share, haha.
How about close-ups? This video doesn’t show the glasses in any detail, whatsoever.
It was my second video almost 10 years ago. I've added close ups in most of the ones since then.
Most of those sites are all fakes. Mars aren't generally available so online sales aren't likely.
I have a pair of these leather frame Micheal Jordans in absolute mint condition, hit me if up if you want them.
Back when I made this, I could get them for between $50-150, but those days have passed. I've come to terms with the fact that I'm not in the financial position to ever buy another X-Metal, but thanks for the offer.
Jupiter
Correct. I should go back to asking trivia questions at the end
@@oreview Thank you
I think I might have real ones that I got at a yard sale for $1....
