Should we get this machine for the shop?
100% charge for 25hours of undercarriage cleaning instead of 50 on the 10k detail type jobs but it will actually only take 10.

Seems like a good service add-on for high-end, wheels-off details (as well as speeding up undercarriage and engine details). For me, the maintenance track record, warranty and speed of service would be key. You don’t want a machine this expensive to go down for the count and have to wait for service. If it’s relatively easy and inexpensive to maintain, it seems like a good value add for the types of details you do. Plus it’s f’ing cool to watch!

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Dry Ice Cleaning Service. I would definitely get this done on my 2010 Subaru Forester. It would increase the value.
I used to prep used motorcycles for the show room which included a lot of repainting things, eg footrest hangers, swinging arms, stands etc and I used to use a sand blaster. I loved it. You could go off in your own little world and it was so pleasing to do. This looks even better because you don't have a cabinet that can fog up and because it's not sucking the ice back through like sand blasters do there's no chance of nozzle clog. And to be able to do parts still on a vehicle without sand getting everywhere looks awesome. Please get one and do loads of vids of it 😀
It's another piece of your arsenal to set you apart from the rest. Cuts down on your biggest expense which is labor. I'm a fan of anything that does the job better and faster. Employees would actually enjoy using it, which would also turn out jobs faster. As far as the debris it leaves behind... You are cleaning up afterwards no matter which process or tool used for a job you use. So there's not a difference. I've seen these systems used on interiors and with one swipe across a panel or cluster, it is new again. The particles on the carpets or any surface won't be embedded, so a final vacuum at the end of an interior job would handle that. You guys are in a caliber of detail that warrants an investment of this level. And I'm addicted to your videos, so getting to watch videos of this being used more often would be so satisfying. 😁

At Cosworth in the UK we use this on an ABB robot, in a booth with extraction, to do not only cleaning but very accurate minute de-burring of machined engine castings.

This is the absolute best top notch way to clean a lot of stuff. I have sen places charging 200/hr for this service.
Really? I've seen only $250 to $295 in the US, between $375 and $425 in Europe where it's more established. Can you provide a link for $200 an hour?
I think it’s a terrific add worth the price . You save after not having to buy degreaser and chemicals to clean with. Save time and protect the environment. No sump drains to pay for anymore.
There is a UA-cam channel call “I am detailing”. He does a lot of dry ice blasting undercarriages, engine bays and wheels. He uses a drive on lift for the cars with plastic side curtains when raised. It is messy but contains it under the car/lift.
Looks freaking amazing when completed. Check him out. I would love to do some of my own vehicles!
This is so satisfyingly omg, can you imagine a detailing shop having something like this for interior and engine bay cleaning even wheels how about everything, i need one of these i heard they do an amazing job with Carbon Build up cleaning too, i'm placing my order right now

The price is expensive but how much can you depreciate the equipment is a valid thought. This could save tens of hours labor per week and offer you a service your competition does not have. With your winters this could make money cleaning undercarriages.

They’re taking their time getting around to “how does dry ice actually clean something”. I’d also want to know how monopolistic the supply chain is, are they the only supplier of this kind of ice shape or mix? Also like the other commenter said right to repair and service expectations are important. You don’t want to be the McDonald’s ice cream machine, always broken
Maintained on the machine is supposed to be minimal. There is a wear item they said has to be replaced every couple of years that will cost around $900. The dry ice is about .35 per pound. So around $175 to do a full undercarriage. There are lot's of ice makers.
@@ChicagoAutoPros so then it would seem a fast way to get high diificulty cleaning done, suppose it’s the purchase price that makes it non standard equipment? Also does it deal with rust at all? I’m interested in those treatments where the undercarriage is cleaned, rust is addressed, and then an oil coating is sprayed on to prevent further rust.

Does the dry ice affects gaskets? would a rubber gasket be compromised if touched with the dry ice during cleaning?
If you have the machine set too aggressively it can, but it is adjustable and you can change the settings on the fly to go over any type of material.
Just remember if you do this indoors everything you blast off settles.

Are you just blasting away the clearcoat on the wheels and the rustproof coatings on the undercarriage though?
No, It will not damage clear coat if used properly.
@@ChicagoAutoPros How is that possible? A rough or dirty towel will cause swirl marks but media blasting clearcoat at 40 psi will do no damage?
I vote yes. Just remember everything blasted off will go *everywhere*, so it's best to have a separate room in the shop for it, that's empty and easy to clean
Great video equipment is extremely expensive with that being said I'm pretty sure an average Joe won't be able to afford this kind of detail as I seen this undercarriage service cleaning starting at $1800 and Going up to $3600. There would be a small percentage of customers that would actually be able to afford it
There is a misconception of how CO2 cleaning works. It may weaken the bonding between dirt and the part through cold but the main thing is that CO2 is a non polar substance, like most organic solvents so it is actually "dissolving" grease and blowing it away.
If you do this you need to vertically integrate and also produce dry ice which is complicated. The 5% daily loss rate is not sustainable. Also, you have to becareful that you don't crack or damage things.
downside n. 1 is that it makes the workshop dirty. n.2 the cost.
The camera work was unpleasant to watch on this video. It was so unstable.
One thing i hope they mentioned is how dirty the shop will get with this, if you guys do get one you're gonna need a room just for it imo
It's a detail shop, they get dirty fast. With all the compound dust, pressure washing and vacuuming we have to clean the shop each night.
@@ChicagoAutoPros I saw the Ammo guy try this and he said it made the place dirtier than it had ever got. It was everywhere.
@@cinnamonrage ya same here, you'll get a good layer of black dust all over the shop and on the cars if sat too long while dry icing. But the return is worth it. I'm sure some people will want this service.

This is such cool technology but not sure its worth the scratch. $40k is steep and from past experiences with salesmen it's probably more like $50 plus to run.
I don't know what you guys specifically do for a living, but you'll need a 30-hp variable speed rotary screw compressor, a refrigerated dryer (that nobody will repair if it has a problem) and the $40K PCS40. So about $75K without a lift. Then understand that you need to order the pellets a week in advance, and you can get them only in 500lbs bulk. Need 650lbs? Order 1,000 lbs, about $1K with tax. And then watch the stuff disappear while you go to bed. If you don't order a variable speed compressor, see your power bill explode. Every time the compressor fires up, it causes an energy spike, and the power company charges you based on that spike. Can be thousands of dollars a month. Be warned.
Not to discourage you, but it's a substantial investment (we've done that) and it will take a long time to pay off, unless you do nothing but dry ice blasting. That's why it's so expensive . . .

AND the warranty is only ONE year on the ColdJet machine....I would even say you are close to 100 000$ for the whole set-up....Very risky business and investment...One solution is to rent the compressor and the ColdJet machine on a daily basis as you need...Schedule job accordingly...

Not bad but still to slow , we need something what can do big industrial jobs for this kind of money , its just my appenion , I do 200m2 per day with my sandblaster , whit this thing I would need 2 weeks for same money

redicilously expensive unit. Doesn't even perform well on the transmission. It would probably take a Dry ice with abrasive add-on to get the best result on the transmission

Videos like this are misleading. We have a system at our shop and let’s talk about the reality of actually owning and running something. Like this first of all, your compressed air system must be able to push anywhere from 35 to 125 CFM. You cannot get those numbers from a Home Depot air compressor. You’re going to spend thousands of dollars just on the compressor. Operatint this machine requires an extremely well ventilated area and produces a lot of dirt and debris. It goes everywhere you will also need air dryers and other equipment. Dry ice is difficult to get outside of major cities and typically cannot be purchased in quantities under 500 pounds. Operating this machine requires an extremely well ventilated area. I don’t see this technology ever being practical for a DIY person.
Don't waste your money. Having used a dry ice machine for years with our printing presses there are more draw backs than advantages. You have to order ice and you have a very limited time in using it so keeping "stock" ice on hand is not doable. Ice is water, oil and water don't mix, all ice will do is push oil and grease around. The transmission had dried gunk and it will clean it well but if you plan on engine detailing or the such forget about it. Ice will blast grease out of bearings and the such so you don't use anywhere near bearings or grease locations. Ice has a place but a on a car is not one of them.
Ice is water. But dry ice is carbon dioxide. Which disappears back to gas on impact - ie no water at all in this process.
