Years ago I was burning a slash pile of tree limbings from a previous cutting before we had the property, there was still frost in the ground and this pile of frozen slash just burned slowly for over a week, someone reported we had an "unattended" fire and I got a visit from a State police officer. just doing his job, I poked at it with the tractor bucket I think we got some heavy rain and it went out finally.
That was quite the fire.

no, but that coal bed was plenty for the whole moose on a spit. It was 5 feet deep 10 feet across.
