Infiniti has been good about addressing the issue when it pops up however and the newer models are looking to be very reliable.
Everyone keeps commenting about how the Genesis is a 2022 vs the Q50 which is an older design. The 2022 Genesis is only a cosmetic upgrade, the power train has not changed since 2018.
@@restlessyouthproductions the styling is out of date, especially next to the Genesis, but the worst part is the interior, the nav/info/dash screens looks and integration is a bad joke at this point.

Thanks for doing this video. It gives me a new appreciation for my Infiniti. I've been leasing Infiniti's since 2009. This year I wanted a change. I considered the Acura RDX, TLX the Lexus ES 350 and the Genesis G70. Due to the chip shortage the prices had gone through the roof so I decided to buy out the lease on my 2018 Q50 and I am glad I did. It's everything I need. It's not too big, it's quick, it still looks good and the nav is touch screen which the TLX was not. When things normalize I'll probably trade it in. Who knows, I might even get another one. The Signature series caught my eye.
It’s cool to see the different modes. I was just telling someone the other day in my Q50 there is a HUGE difference in the normal and sport mode, more than I see in average cars. It’s cool to physically see the difference in this bideo

Awesome match up. I personally have a 2018 Q50 RS, but also luv the G70. I think the reason why the Q50 pulled away so much, when in Sport +, was due to the change in the gearing ratios when in this mode.
Gear ratios don't change in ANY mode.. There is no secondary ratios in the Jatco 7 speed nor in the differential.. The only that does is the tune/boost levels in sport mode +
Both of you are incorrect. Thr gear ratios don't change and neither does the boost levels. Sport and sport + change the throttle response, transmission shifts, dampers, traction and steering feel. This makes for a better driving feel.
Reaction time is huge, seems like I see a lot of people gloss over this and it can really make the difference between an even race and a car length or two, if not more.
@Enzo Morf right! Clearly the infiniti was out before this car. I dont understand why infiniti gets so much flak regarding redesigns when every other luxury brand does the same thing! Trans old or not the rs400 is a beast

Great video Sam! I own a 2020 RS, like it lots and must admit it is so nice to see it holding its own against top newcomers. The G70 is simply gorgeous. Infiniti updated the exhaust and mid pipe on 2020 models, the exhaust Sound is pretty awesome and believe the transmission, although dated, it was retuned in 2018 so it would be nice to test a newer RS against the so called top dogs in the segment. Great channel! Stay safe!
If Infiniti Canada wanted to hook it up, I believe that the 20/21 RS I-Line with the updated exhaust would be great, but the results would be the same - if not more handily skewed towards the Infiniti.

Hi could you provide a link to these updates. Im currently looking for 2018+ RS400 Rwd. I had no idea about the transmission update or exhaust. I have heard of the turbo being updated using different seals for the 18/19. Thanks
I know first hand about the exhaust and mid pipe as the upgrades are widely advertised on Infiniti Canada website for the 2020 and 2021 models. As for the transmission, someone else mentioned it in the comments and I also read about it, possibly in a forum, in the past but can’t attest to the validity of the claim. I’ll see if I find details on it. My RS by the way is AWD as I live in Canada.

@@omarbryant7930 that’s what I’m saying. Both these cars run in the 12 second quarter mile range. The quickest Honda you can get right now is the type r and it runs a mid 13 second quarter. Which has the same motor as the TLX and accord sport. The Nsx is a beast but a different class.
@Catholic Firefighter the RS definitely got a jump on the Stinger in the last video. They're still a lot closer than I was expecting. I thought the G70 would walk away with it easily.
Genesis is everything Infiniti should have been! I owned G35x for 8 years and G37x for 6 years. I was about to buy a Q50 red sport but Infiniti just not the same. Hyundia and Kia on the other hand good only go up from where they were so the impact is more dramatic.
@@d.block3148 That’s a very fair response. I’ve owned a Genesis. Great car!! I also own a mint, refreshed Q50 Red Sport. It’s the MOST Japanese car on the market not named GTR. Great cars. The G has a nicer interior and newer transmission but the Q is more fuel efficient and convenient with a 20 gallon tank. 48k on mine and it has been excellent. Still on original brakes too.
Both of these cars are amazing machines that perform rather similarly. Mods and both will be extremely fast but I believe the aftermarket support and performance on the q50 will outshine the 3.3tt. For me it comes down to the exterior styling and interior, both of which (imo) is better on the g70😁👍
Agree, and the Q50 is ~4K more MSRP if optioned fully like the G70. As the G70 shares platforms with the Stinger, ...one would assume mods would be an easy thing, should that be a route someone takes. Don't really see these being mod beasts in a sense.

I test drove both cars. The Q50 felt quite a bit faster. Might have been the significantly more turbo lag on the G70. The small back seat of the G70 was a dealbreaker.
The q50 does feel seat of the pants faster because it has a more aggressive 1st gear and is not as refined as g70. But in reality it’s really not any quicker as shown in this video.

The person in the Q50 was me and I had never ever dragged my car before, give me a few runs and the universe balances out. G70 in Normal/Standard mode is obviously better than the Infiniti.
I am a bit biased because I own a Q50 (with the base 3.0 and non-DAS) but here is my two cents. The Red Sport 400 doesn't have a Torsen LSD so it has trouble putting power to the ground, especially in rear wheel drive configuration. Thus it actually isn't that much faster than the run of the mill regular Q50 like mine which although also doesn't have an LSD, and "only" has 300 horsepower, it can put it down power more effectively than the Red Sport. I personally done 0-60 in under 5 seconds with mine. Also the base Q50 starts at 36K ends at around high 40K and can keep up with the Red Sport. I think there is so much good value in the regular model I don't think you need to step up to the Red Sport imo. I think base Q50 with regular steering set-up is one of the strongest value in the segment. Whether you get the Directive Adaptive Drive By Wire Steering or not, what you need to do with every V37 Q50/Q60 is to get rid of the stock Dunlop run flats IMMEDIATELY. Those things hamper and hurt the car's performance so much, just as much if not more than the DAS setup itself. With the stock tire set-up, you could actually feel the tire flexing that is how bad of the tire they chose for the car. Change it to something like Michelin Pilot Sport and is a day and night difference.
Very impressive showing from the red sport with it being one generation behind, down a gear, less displacement, and heavier. Of course the g70 looks more modern but of course.. it's 5 years newer. The Infiniti is definitely well engineered.
It is not one generation behind. The Q50 had an entire overhaul in 2016. 2012 is the old car with the 3.7L V6. The Genesis came out in 2018, and the 2022 is only a cosmetic change. The power train is a carryover.
@@fasear375fullauto2 google q50 from 2014. You will see that other than the motor, this is the same car. The chassis and transmission was a carryover to the 2016 car that you speak of...so yeah it's a generation behind the Genesis.

I never thought I’d see the day I’d say Infiniti lost a race Edit: Never mind lol it didn’t lose after Sports mode. But that Genesis is seriously a contender
This matches what I have seen on many other videos. The Stinger / G70 matches or outperforms the Q50 Red Sport and I think it comes down to the horrible 7 speed transmissions in the Q50. I have the standard Q50 Luxe and an Stinger and there is no comparison in the transmission. The TTVR motor in the Q50’s is excellent but the gearing lets it down. The Stinger is underrated HP or the Q50 overrated. There is a 35HP and the difference so the Q50 RS should walk the Stinger / G70 platform.
Yeah some folks are clearly glossing over the fact that in one of the races the Q50 came from behind, it was clearly losing and still managed to not only catch up, but drove past the G70. I'd like to see the G70 come from behind in a loss and pass the Q50 to win. At the end of the day there were just too many inconsistencies throughout the races--use a Dragy so we can see if it's driver error. NOTE: All Q50s are underrated, RS is closer to 450, and all others are closer to 350 at the crank based on the dyno numbers, similar to how BMW underrates as well

Automatic in all races from a dig. Obviously Standard mode is pig mode in comparison to the G70. Sport and Sport + she comes to life. In the 2nd roll race Sam recommended I use the paddles after the results of the first 40 roll. I was getting ahead of him before we took off so I reduced speed and the trans shifted and I was DOA. The paddles helped control the transmission and allowed me to compete. Seems like I got on the brakes early at the finish marker a few times too (makes for better drama LOL). No major weight reduction in the wheels from OE, they are 19" Braelin BR06's second hand because thats how I roll. Appreciate your comments!

Ive been in both and the g70 do feel way more torqey for some reason and the redsports show there power up top so this race went as expected. The extrq .3 of dispalcement is helping the g70 off the hit but on the highway passed 120 that extra power of the q50 would pull it back.Really good race indeed and you can tell driver reaction played a major roll.Imagine if they make a performance varient of this g70 engine with like 450hp that would be a crazy car and give the Germans some competition..like a G70 R or some shit or Kia stinger GT R or N or whatever..it wont be cheap tho probly be like 63-71k
I have a Q60S 3.0T (not called Red Sport here in the UK...) The problem I have with my 2017 car is replacing it. When I look around at what is available, nothing new really offers anything that much better for less that £80k. Also, I find it difficult to fault the Q60 interior. Still feels nice. Extraordinarily comfortable. Easy to use and the dual screens integrate seamlessly. Plus, the Sport Tech ProPILOT is a perfect blend of involvement and autonomy. Love it tbh.
The Q50 is so outdated. I’d buy the Genesis all day long. I just wish the taillights of the G70 continued on the truck, looks a bit unfinished the way it is.
Q50 owner completely agree needs a update. Also if every car company is going to pump fake engine noise in the cabin for sport mode at least let us pick the noise
Looks like the Q50 took this one. When the Q50 had a bad reaction, it was able to reel the Genesis in. When he had a good reaction, the Genesis couldn’t keep up. It’s close but Q50 has the edge.
Not quite, they literally seemed to swap who took it. Also, it looks like the Q has aftermarket wheels and not those heavy stockers. The G70 has those heavy ass 19's (~34lbs), definitely a difference up top. With all that said they're too close though and the Q doesn't have a discernible edge.
I've driven both and bought the G70 without any hesitation. Besides the fact that the G70 is a true luxury car, it is also watered down. You can easily get another 70-100hp out of the G70 without any worry about affecting longevity or reliability. The Q50RS, otoh, is about pushing the limits of what the VQ engine can safely do without affecting longevity and reliability. It's not really a reliable engine from the factory actually. @@sn350channel Sorry but the VQ and VK engine family (in any of its former and/or present forms) have been solely developed and built by Nissan. Infiniti has been good about addressing the issue when it pops up however and the newer models are looking to be very reliable.

The g70 looks good no matter what car its next to
Very impressive showing from the red sport with it being one generation behind, down a gear, less displacement, and heavier.

Which it did.
NOTE: All Q50s are underrated, RS is closer to 450, and all others are closer to 350 at the crank based on the dyno numbers, similar to how BMW underrates as well
@@kevq35 if the Red Sport is UNDERATED why is it barley beating or only equaling a car with less horsepower 365HP and my stock Stinger has beaten Red Sports with the same Motor. I have a Q50 Luxe and a Stinger I dont have a dog in the fight because I own Infinity and Kia Stinger - Sister car
@@vexhyl it did not walk the Genesis watch again
@@cwnapier67 Have you put them both on the dyno? I think between weight and power stats you'll get your answer.
people might consider Infiniti cars as old , but to its always classic and better design than any other...Its SKYLINE by the way
Yes both cars are very close. What is the wheel brand on the Q?
Great vid, y’all should incorporate a rev off before the race to add some theater
Do they build any revs before launching? Seems like they're just going from idle.
The Genesis just is way more visually appealing to me, I love the engine on the Infinity but the body style just doesn't pop as much to me.
Well, the Infiniti design is over 10 years old...lol
Get a Q60 then
Genesis brand is impressive …and the interior is pure luxury
Genesis defeniltly underrated their HP figure on this engine
@@senorfreeze4662 yeah this motor is defeniltly making more like 400 hp I bet.
I want to know if both of these cars are AWD and why there was no drag race SPORT+ with traction control on?
K5 GT vs Sonata N Line soon?
Which is more fun on a twisty road or track?
WOW, surprised how close that was! Question 1: Q50 any weight savings with aftermarket wheels? Question 2: Q50 shifting manually or automatically? was worried Q50 would heat soak(weak heat exchanger) after so many runs but hung in there like a champ. Man, imagine racing both with JB4s installed! haha thanks for the video!
All autos
@@jimwallace4164 So did the G70 use paddles as well? Seems like these videos keeps ignoring changes in such details (paddles vs letting the auto. do its thing)? ON BOTH SIDES
Nice. Love your videos. Always accurate and to the point.
Kinda of make sense why they are so close G70 is 100 pounds lighter, more torque and have better transmission.
I swear every time he say “launch” it sounds like he’s saying lunch
Drivers seem like they are unsure of what they are doing.
What is there to do other than bury the gas? Dragging autos is about as mindless as it gets
Well dude in the Infiniti was definitely having user error. It’s like he wasn’t even trying.
Infiniti has great transmissions? The 7at? What are you smoking?
The difference between these 2 cars is based on the drivers reaction time and sport/ normal mode
They’re both in auto
Good race , but i cant understand one thing - how stinger beat the q50 and genesis lost from q50? Kia stinger and genesis are with same engine and transmition and genesis its a little bit lighter ?
G70 vs CT5-V would be a good race
Owning a Q50 I can tell you running the Infiniti back to back with heat exchangers causes heat soak and the engine gets timing pulled.
I love the Infiniti Q50👍
That Q50 looks like something from another era. Having said that, that Hyundai has 2005 BMW 5 Series written all over it!
and your Datsun has a Lada written all over it.
Would love to see some G80 Sport drag races
You extractly said what was in my mind 👍
with jb4 and downpipes the g70 have like 450 whp
Is the red sport brake boosting? Cuz that’s what it sound like at min 6:50
I like your videos, plz keep going...Good luck
Thank you, I will
I have a Q60S 3.0T (not called Red Sport here in the UK...) The problem I have with my 2017 car is replacing it.
Hyundai>Nissan
@@AngelValdovinos All day long
Outdated lol? Have you seen it?
@@skyforgedgaming Yes, have you? Very dated.
@@jaredshelton4718 yes I own a red sport. Pretty modern
Love the blue on that Infiniti! Never considered a Hyundai or a Kia before, but maybe I should at least take a look...
I daily drive an Rs400 I love it !!
The Q looks about 20 years older than the G
Wanna see Acura TLX type S vs G70.
That will be one hell of a race.
@@SAT1337 They did that n it wasn’t even close. I felt bad for the TLX.
Tune it at your own risk.
The Infiniti did better.
But the genesis looks better.
