it's great to see how well the Q60 is holding up despite the age of the platform. One thing I really prefer about the Q to the Audi is that it has a 60 degree V6, whereas the Audi is a 90 degree (since it's a V8 with two cylinders cut off). I think I also prefer the turbochargers to be on the outside of the cylinder banks instead of the hot V/reverse flow heads...it's strikes me as ungood that the turbocharger is in the valley of two cylinder banks over the long run, but I suppose that can be compensated with via coolant and oil flow.
Hot V makes the turbo spool faster and the heat generated is very negligible with cooling. The hot V also allows for better response and less turbo lag.
@@q6_zilla yeah they are radically different engines despite both being simplified down to 3.0T. Although I'm not personally a fan of 90 degree V6s, they do at least have the advantage of a lower center of gravity relative to 60 degree V6s and inline sixes, which given Audi's requisite true-Quattro layout where the engine has to be fully in front of the front axle, this probably counts more than it would in a non-Audi car.
I'm the owner of a B9 2018 S5, tuned. I LOVE the layout of the engine. The Turbo sitting in the V makes a ton of sense, IMO. I've had two Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4's in the early 2000's and I've dealt with other turbo vehicles as well. For the most part - all the Turbo's are usually placed right next to an exhaust header. Isn't that literally the HOTTEST place for one? Not to mention you can barely turn a nut (relating to a turbo) on most of these other cars due to their location (next to the firewall! WTF!)
@@phaZed9 Being right on the exhaust manifold is indeed very hot; you can only imagine how hot it would be in between two exhaust manifolds. As others have pointed out, you can engineer around this; turbochargers are inherently hot already, being that we run exhaust through them, and yet they can have long lifespans. The more difficult thing is the 90 degree V6 layout; that's just inherently rougher than the 60 degree V6 layout. The engineering solutions to that are limited, and generally create additional drag on the engine, usually in the instance of specialized balance shafts. This is why the EA839 is livable in the real world, but there is a cost to efficiency/power. I think, at heart, that may be my biggest problem with the EA839; it's the product of cost cutting. The hot V has weaknesses, but it also has advantages, and we can argue about which is better. But the 90 degree V6 design is consistently the product of cutting two cylinders off of a V8 because it was too expensive to develop a dedicated V6 engine, and that just irks me. Jaguar does it too (although Jaguar, in their characteristic Jaguar way, does it much more cheaply and brutally than Audi/Porsche) and that's also why I didn't buy a supercharged V6 F-Type. Still, it's always worth keeping in perspective that these are obscure engineering issues that are of much greater concern to engine nerds than of real drivers. In the real world, the EA839 is a very good, if not quite great, engine.
The Audi is awesome, the Stang is awesome and sounds amazing, the Q is a rocket too. Great race! Infiniti really needs to make a transmission worthy of the VR engine... that thing is so dam restricted it's not even funny.
It’s not a VQ engine my guy it’s a VR30 TT . The VQ was discontinued in 2016 for the Q50/60 platform. Still used in the Nissan lineup and the QX60 . I think the QX50 uses the 2.0 turbo .

agreed although HP and torque numbers are only a part of the story. How quick the HP and TQ are obtained is the other part and with a Turbo both cars get full torque below 3000 RPMs while the Mustang needs more revving, that's why it catches up later every time. AWD is also a great traction aid when taking off from a standstill but on a rolling race it proved not helpful.

You're going to beat a Mustang 10 speed mod for mod??? Please explain. It already has you by 100+ horsepower and modding both isn't going to get you over that hump.
Exactly, they are all great cars stock no doubt but a good tune and upgraded HX for the Q is all you need to smoke the S5 and 5.0 off the line every time, even if they also got some mods as well.
Having owned a '19 GT PP1 (6spd) and now a '22 S5 Coupe, I can tell you that the Mustang has great legs at the top end. It just pulls and pulls, it's silly and with exhaust it sounds heavenly. It feels surprisingly light on it's feet too for a ~3,800 lb car. That said the S5 is hands down a better car in almost every other way for daily driving and livability. The ZF8 really is a great transmission, the power delivery is smooth as butter and it has all the creature comforts you could ask for. If I could have kept both, I would have. Equally fantastic cars in their own right. I had also cross shopped the Q60 before the S5, it's also a great car, but the build quality and driving experience of the S5 is much more enjoyable. This was a fun head to head and accurate from my experiences as well!
I agree with you, therefore I decided to drive a Audi A6 Sedan (55TFSI) with the same Engine like the S5 as dailiy driver and a 2020 Mustang (10Speed) as Fun-Car.... the european Version of the Mustang is even Fun on our German Autobahn including chasing some bimmers :)
The real test is when 90% of them the Audis and Chevys are sitting at copart or junk yards And ppl appreciate the craftsmanship of Nissan and infinity The q60 red sport especially the awd will double triple in price
I've a S5 supercharged (before Audi went to twin turbos). Off the line, neither of these two other cars would touch it, but as things got rolling, the story would change quickly. However, The '22 S5 is twin turbo charged- this was a change done in '15 or '16 to make the car more fuel efficient. Theres no comparison between the Mustang 10 speed with almost 100HP more than the S5 and a few more HP than the Q60. HP and Torque win all the way. The difference is in the drive, the Audi for me is a cross between engineering elegance, refinement and performance. IN my mind, there is no question that the mustang is about pure performance, and the Japanese model Q60, edges on performance, but falls behind in the resplendence department, so for me, in this test, I say the Mustang has the goods!
Most impressive is the S5, with that lack of power it was still able to somewhat keep up. But expected results for the mustang - Being the lightest and most powerful.
No shit? It's up over a 100 horsepower vs the Audi, weighs less, and is RWD which means it puts more horsepower to the wheels then if it was AWD. How could it not? If on a sticky drag stripe it would not even lose the quarter mile to these vehicles, it would beat them.
@@roboticvenom1935 The RWD would actually be more of a handicap for the Mustang, yes the AWD cars would have slightly less drag, but that is more then made up with by being able to transfer that power to the pavement. The Mustang can’t launch much higher then idle when equipped with street tires. On a track, with slicks, that would be a different story.
I think the mustang needed a driver mod the mustang isn't that slow off the line and roll wise it should of swamped the Audi the first run seemed the mustang driver just floored it vs starting in 2nd or 3rd then pushing it into D. Idk. Gen3 A10 coyote best bang for the buck out there.

I have a 2018 S5 and its pretty quick stock. Had some races on the highway with a q60rs other day and it was super close! Edged him out by a nose but I was super impressed with both cars. Props to whoever the guy was in the q60 thanks for the fun races my guy!
5.0 10R80 is just 💪🔥 and ofcourse that V8 growl you never get tired of listening to
it's great to see how well the Q60 is holding up despite the age of the platform.
Crazy how they are both boosted V6s yet so differently set up. Very cool.

Good races but it's doesn't surprise me at all. The 5.0 has the most HP the most TQ & it's the lightest of the 3 cars
agreed although HP and torque numbers are only a part of the story.
And cost less then both.

The S5 is single turbo FYI.
RS5 is twin turbo. S5 is a single turbo.
Looking real dumb saying the S5 is a twin turbo
I love how you guys actually swapped drivers between the cars to make sure it was actually the car
Can he see over the steering wheel? When it went from Sam to car owner, I legitimately thought it was a little kid driving the car.
😂
LMAOO
if he couldn't see over he wouldn't be able to drive sooo you're dumb
Way to go again man another great video you bring the best drag races on UA-cam! Keep bringing the awesome videos!
Most impressive is the S5, with that lack of power it was still able to somewhat keep up. But expected results for the mustang - Being the lightest and most powerful.
It’s not down power, that s5 actually makes more than advertised
@@TheHybridQ50S isn’t it a stock S5? Those are Stock numbers
@@TheHybridQ50S it still makes less then the q60 buddy. Believe me I am a VAG giy
@@TheHybridQ50S They took what u said and mixed it up so bad 🤦🏿♂️
@@CloroxGodThe1st I didn’t even bother reading lol
Infinity owner is regretting his life choices, like most other Infinity, Nissan owners
Just as I predicted based on the info, although I did not expect the stang to fall on that take off in 1st race
yea, i did not expect that too, but to be realistic the mustang is RWD and the audi and infiniti are AWD
I love all of your videos. Keep up the great work
That S5 is really quick, German engineering at its finest
That thing lost in every drag race here lol
The GT in a rear engine front wheel drive configuration would be so sweet.
Despite only being RWD these Mustangs with Coyote engines still in the race and plenty of potentials 🔥🔥🔥
@@roboticvenom1935 it's the other way around tf🤣 the audi and infiniti put more power to the wheels. That's what awd is for, are you dumb?🤣😱
Jeez for the Audi having considerable less bhp and more weight it’s a beast.
Bro that mustang passed them like they were tie to a stone!
After it got smoked off the line.
@@donalddann yeah they're AWD twin turbo that's what happens
@@ATH4700 Slowest 480 hp car out there. Lol
@donalddann talking about the mustang?
People seem to forget that the Q60 red sport is exactly in the middle between an S5 and an RS5
The 10 speed transmissions nowadays are crazy man. The lt1 and coyote platforms with them too. Jeez.
The 5.0 shat on the other two cars.Never compare a 5.0 Mustang to a chicks grocery getter.”you coulda had a V8!”
The all-wheel drives beat the Mustang off the line...yep, and that was it! They were toast after that!
Coming from behind and overtaking the other car(s) always looks badass!
Car with 100 more HP, lighter and better gearing starts pulling on Sam.. Sam: are you kidding me? Nope it's simple physics
Exactly like even a person with no brain cells could’ve predicted this outcome lol
don’t get me wrong the 5.0 is fast but it does not have the best trans, if the audi was tuned to make the same hp as the 5.0 it would chew it up n spit it out, no question about it
@@christopherrose7539 what happens when the 5.0 gets tuned. It will put busses on the Audi.
@@AB-coyote i’m talking about the cars being equals, the only reason the s5 doesn’t make more power from factory is because the rs5 exists, sure u could tune the 5.0 to make even more power but good luck efficiently putting that power down on a unprepped surface, thats the downside of RWD. But as equals with power the audi will always win.
@@christopherrose7539 from a dig yeah. From a roll it's more power to weight and Aero at high speeds. Anyways my comment was that I found it funny how Sam seemed surprised the Mustang was pulling when it's lighter and has way more power
That q60rs got alot of potential damn that 5.0 is no joke either
I love my infinite Q50RS ‼️
That mustang let off on the first roll race. He did it twice
Seem like the AUDI was FASTER with it owner💨💨💨👌🏾‼️
Thanks :)
lol the Audi is still much slower than the GT
@@Youcallthesebagels_ it has 100hp less
Haha, I can promise for all the non believers, the 10 speed auto mustang is stupid fast. The car in track mode is ridiculous, almost no wheel spin if any.
I have a 2020 gt with the 10 speed and I just got done adding FBO and a e85 tune and I have yet to really push the car but from doing data log pulls my god it’s fast really fast.
