You are a good instructor ... I love the way you put the sides together by referring to the 'weave' and the 'long side' and always moving to the right. Makes you think and remember much better than 'and this is where you put the next strip (which is what most instructors will say). Thank you so much for this great tutorial.
This is more clear than the first tutorial I watched .I received all my material for this project hope it turns out half as well as yours. I love your tutorials. Thanks for adding purpose to my life. I donate all my quilts to churches and cancer patients. It is expensive for me ,however with God all things are possible.
I’m pretty new to sewing and quilting and have made my first successful quilt and lots of table runners and centerpieces using your fabrics and tutorials. Those daily deals just suck me in and I just can’t seem to help myself and then I end up finding enough stuff to buy so I can get free shipping, I’d much rather get a few yards of fabric instead of paying for shipping. I bought the creative grids trim tool and can’t find a tutorial that actually goes step by step. Please can you guys do a tutorial using the trim tool for the curvy log cabin, I’d be so incredibly grateful! I can’t tell you how many hours of my time, wasted fabric and frustration I’ve had with trying to make this block and being successful. Please please please help this old lady out that just can’t wrap her head around it! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤sending love and prayers to you all 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I love black and red colors anyway. I haven’t done a log cabin yet. Strip piecing are quick . I made the fence rail stars. I loved it. I haven’t quilted it yet. Love your personality and professionalism
Yes, I certainly DID enjoy this tutorial! I've seen Log Cabin quilts like this, but I could never figure out how to make them. I tried a few times, but I could not get it right. And now I know! Thank you, Jenny!
I just finished this quilt top. It went together smoothly and was a fun, no-stress project. I used black fabric for the small strips and it really makes my prints pop!
I plan on making this with Batiks in neutral colors because my birthday is in September so I thought fall colors would look great in my family room. Also, I live right by the river. So this describes me perfect. Will start cutting in a week or two.
Another to add to have to make. I can’t wait till Friday’s for another great idea 💡. You always make everything so easy and understandable, it’s just hard keeping up with you, as I get a idea for colors and it takes me awhile to find them, so in my sewing room I have notes of quilts to make with a color chart I want to use, my biggest problem is sometimes not writing down the quilt name and then everything is up for grabs. So now I have a legal pad and at the top I put MSQC and pause the video write the name down and size and then let my thinking 🤔 cap go. Thank you and my grandkids are very happy 😊.
You can click on the heart and it will save the tutorial under favorites for you and then the next time you look for it just click on favorites and your favorites will come up, as Jenny has so many videos now.
I do like this design and the fabric collection you chose with which to make it is so cute! (It's just one of the more expensive ones to make, since you need 2 jelly rolls plus background. But then again, you have all those leftover sizeable strips, which would make an entire other quilt, so that's a good thing! I might just look into whether I could make it with a FQ bundle... oh, the inspiration!!). Thanks for the tutorial, Jenny and the MSQC team! ~Diana from Toronto
Hello Jenny, I thought this block or quilt would be extremely hard to do 😁 I absolutely love your fabric choice with the bkack, pink & white 💕 I am definitely going to make this quilt in similar colours 😁 Erica x
I purchased the two jelly rolls and have some similar white with silver dots for the background. I am pretty sure that I can get a 5 block by 5 block quilt out of this making it larger at 80 by 80 and adding a border. It just means 100 of each of the lengths instead of 80. I have also chosen the log cabin traditional idea of a red (in this case one of the more solid pinks) as the center 2 1/2 in square. Wish me luck!
Oh so nice!!!! I'm gonna make this one right now! For one of my sisters that loves blue and yellow!! I wonder if I should use a med. blue for the squares? Hhhmmm…. I just love the adventures quilting takes us on.... You're the captain of your own ship... ( :
This has an Asian look. Very pretty. I have a curved log cabin awaiting quilting... but the layout is completely different. I have Asian fabric that will make Chinese lanterns. Thanks!
Jenny, I really liked this layout...so I made one with my Christmas scraps. I put a piano key border, hoping to use up the scraps. . . Well, that didn't happen!
Love your quilts, tutorials, shop and everything Missouri!!! After watching this tutorial, I was wondering if you squared up your 4 blocks before sewing them together??. Or if you just squared up the large block after the 4 has been sewn together.???? Would love your input!!! Thanks. Tracey.
Você é ótima. Pena que não há legendas em português. O legal é que como suas explicações são muito visuais facilita o entendimento. Amo ver seus tutoriais.
Just a suggestion..... I did the curved log cabin and only cut the 2.5 square and left all the other material in strips. I would cut after i sewed the pieces together. It gives you an accurate cut.... and I assembly sewed each block.....
Interesting how from 2014 when you did the curvy log cabin you didn't cut to length, now 4 years later you are cutting to size... both beautiful though.
I would love to see this with fall (or shades of green) colors where your colors are and a blended blue where your white is. That would look like islands surrounded by water. Just a thought. What do you think?
I wonder if it would work to bring it in to having the largest cut piece be 6.5 inches ... not going all the way to 8.5. I know it would make a smaller quilt, but just wonder if the curve would still happen.
I've always wanted to make a log cabin, but honestly have been intimidated by it. Love the way this one looks. I did have to watch the video twice because some things confused me. I have a question. Why can't you use the rest of the strip? Would not that eliminate the need for two rolls? I'm sure there's a reason..
greylady 2 I did some rough math (very rough!)...seems like using up the strips would result in roughly 64 blocks but this one is 80, I believe. 64 blocks would be 8x8 or 64x64. Just a smaller quilt is all. You would have to be careful to get the right number of each length since the leftover strip is roughly 14-15 inches long. I might try it anyway. Worst case is you know you will end up with at least 42 blocks and that would be 6x7 or 48x56’ then put a small border on if you want.
Will you do a tutorial on how to piece together backings? I notice sometimes you mention vertical seams and other times horizontal seams. If you could include some general dos and don’ts for quilt backings, that’d be superb!
Mom Grandma my thought as well. It would make a great quilt just making one strip as Jenny did but surrounding the remainder of the quilt with blocks all made in background fabric. It would make it very modern and the log cabin/Chinese lantern strip would look beautiful
I like the quilt pattern. Unfortunately, it is very hard to see the curved log cabins because of the poor choice of "print" jelly roll. The jelly roll is gorgeous and I love the colors, but it has too many light strips which do not have enough contrast with the background strips.
Very good tutorial Jenny, but could I make a little plea about the intro and ending music? Could it be much shorter? Quite honestly, it's driving me nuts!! I know I can stop it by turning the sound down but then I miss explanations, and sometimes I am not at the computer when it comes along.
So PRETTY! Jenny, I hope you continue to make videos for MSQC for a long time to come.....sorry, but I get the feeling that MSQC is under-going some LARGE permanent changes that everyone who absolutely LOVE, LOVE,LOVES MSQC isn't going to be thrilled with, even though those of us who dislike change will have to get used to it. My reasoning for this? In the BLOCK magazine all the quilts are created by someone else....take the newest BLOCK magazine....( look at the back where the photos of the quilts that were featured in the newest Block magazine...see page 92 where is says "Sample Quilt" Enchanted by Gingiber for Moda Fabrics....and if you look at all the other pages with the photos of the quilts....nothing is said about Jenny or her children designing or assembling the quilt like in PAST BLOCK magazines. MSQC.....would you please tell me I'm wrong here....I sure hope so!
holiday 2406 "Sample Quilt" is just the line of fabric. If you look on the first page of the new BLOCK book Jenny and her children are still credited for designing, assembling and editing. No big changes to worry about 😊
Hello holiday2406! No need to worry, the sample quilt that is listed at the end of BLOCK Magazine is crediting the fabric collection used to create the quilt featured in the magazine. :) Jenny and her family are still very much involved with the creation of BLOCK and with Missouri Star Quilt Co. as a whole! Thank you for your note, and we hope you enjoy the River Log Cabin tutorial, and your latest issue of BLOCK! :)
TraCy strobel counting the squares is Jenny's way of measuring. It's what works for her brain. We can all measure the way our brains work best at our own mat;)
If I keep on "liking" and wanting to make every one of your quilts Jenny, I need several livetimes.
I had the biggest "Ohhhhhhhh" moment when you showed how to layout the blocks! I didn't realize there was two patterns!
Jenny, you're still the best! Your upbeat personality is so refreshing
Debbie Horton you know? I was thinking the same thing while I was watching this video! Very very nice personally! ♡
I think this may be my favourite log cabin setting.
You are a good instructor ... I love the way you put the sides together by referring to the 'weave' and the 'long side' and always moving to the right. Makes you think and remember much better than 'and this is where you put the next strip (which is what most instructors will say). Thank you so much for this great tutorial.
Finally finished the quilt top. I made 3 blocks across and 4 blocks down - 48x66. Will send it off for long arm services. Can't wait!
Thank you Ms Jenny. When I decided to get into quilting I discovered you. Thank you so much!
The very first quilt I made was a log cabin.....Christmas gift for my oldest son!!
This is more clear than the first tutorial I watched .I received all my material for this project hope it turns out half as well as yours. I love your tutorials. Thanks for adding purpose to my life. I donate all my quilts to churches and cancer patients. It is expensive for me ,however with God all things are possible.
I love the addition to the white fabric! Something a little unexpected is always fun. =)
Love this quilt! Love all things Jenny and Missouri star⭐️

I just finished the School of Fish 🐠 and wondered what to make next and here you come again Jenny, with another exciting project for me ✂️👏🏻💃🏻 Thanks
This was delightful. Love your teaching personality.
Absolutely one of the best quilting instructors
I love black and red colors anyway. I haven’t done a log cabin yet. Strip piecing are quick . I made the fence rail stars. I loved it. I haven’t quilted it yet. Love your personality and professionalism
Beautiful fabric and it works perfectly with pattern. My first quilt was a log cabin pattern. It has always been my favorite block.
I love the versatility of the log cabin block. Thanks for another great tutorial!
I just love this block. Thank you for teaching us how to put this together just beautiful
My absolute favorite block❤️❤️❤️
Yes, I certainly DID enjoy this tutorial! I've seen Log Cabin quilts like this, but I could never figure out how to make them. I tried a few times, but I could not get it right. And now I know! Thank you, Jenny!
Qzaà
I like the new take on the Log Cabin pattern! I think it would be beautiful made with the Berries and Blossoms line and French Vanilla skinny strips.
Joyce I think you have an excellent eye for color! Those would so so beautifully together!
Jenny absolutely awesome thank you once again just the best teacher Xx
What a beautiful quilt ! You are such a good teacher ! Thank you !
Again a great pattern. You go Jenny.
I just finished this quilt top. It went together smoothly and was a fun, no-stress project. I used black fabric for the small strips and it really makes my prints pop!
That sounds stunning..
So PRETTY I can't wait to try it. Thank you Jenny 😘
You did it again Jenny, love it
I plan on making this with Batiks in neutral colors because my birthday is in September so I thought fall colors would look great in my family room. Also, I live right by the river. So this describes me perfect. Will start cutting in a week or two.
Oh this is so cute! Love the pretty colors in this one. Thank you for another winner!!!
Love this look of the Log Cabin block!
I love this pattern!! You always explain and make things easy to understand. Thank you

we gotta do what works for us..love my notes, my mind goes in too many directions not to have a note..
You can click on the heart and it will save the tutorial under favorites for you and then the next time you look for it just click on favorites and your favorites will come up, as Jenny has so many videos now.
Another quilt for my “to do” list! Wish I had two jelly rolls alike right now!
I do like this design and the fabric collection you chose with which to make it is so cute! (It's just one of the more expensive ones to make, since you need 2 jelly rolls plus background. ~Diana from Toronto
i bet FQs might work depending on the size of the finished quilt size you want...
I really love this Log Cabin !! I have an 8yr old I am teaching..I think this would be perfect for her 2nd quilt. ☺
Love the way it is put together!!!
Love this one! Thanks, Jenny!
Thank you Jenny! Great inspiration 💙
Hello Jenny, I thought this block or quilt would be extremely hard to do 😁 I absolutely love your fabric choice with the bkack, pink & white 💕 I am definitely going to make this quilt in similar colours 😁 Erica x
How did I miss this tutorial?? Have not seen this before. I love Log Cabin quilts and have made several versions, looks like I'll be making another.
Great layout for this log cabin block.
What a cool quilt! Thanks so much
That’s beautiful fabric. 💗💗💗

This is gorgeous! Have to try it.
Thank you, looks a lot like the curved Log Cabin, just a different layout.
Another winner Jenny
Beautiful! You're a talented teacher!

I already made two - I love it
Love it! Thanks!
Spectacular!
Jenny, I am happy to see you looking just fine. I was worried for you because I had seen yo so tired on the previous videos.
Love this! Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love this!!
I love Log Cabin quilts, great video!
How lovely!
I think this would work with my pile of 2 1/2 " scrapes. I will have try. Happy Creating
Do you ever have kits of these quilts?
Love your quilts, tutorials, shop and everything Missouri!!!
After watching this tutorial, I was wondering if you squared up your 4 blocks before sewing them together??. Or if you just squared up the large block after the 4 has been sewn together.???? Would love your input!!! Thanks. Tracey.
How cute would this be made in Moda Swell Christmas fabric? Or any Christmas fabrics? It reminds me of ornaments.
Awesome! Looks absolutely beautiful! As usual! ♡♡
Another quilt I have to make,😍
Me too!!!
Muito prático. Amei! Você sempre escolhe um padrão de cores que combinam perfeitamente.
Obrigada por compartilhar.
So glad you enjoyed watching this tutorial eliane! Happy quilting! :)

Paula Shave I think Jenny did that in a previous tutorial.
What a great idea! Thanks for the helpful hint! :)
Yes, I did this method for the curved log cabin by Jenny. Chain piecing made it go so much faster.
Argh! I just finished cutting everything!! Oh well, wish me luck! 🙂
I did the same, it was very easy.
This is so gorgeous. Thank you Jenny for doing these tutorials for us!.
Can you tell me how many blocks to make?.
Interesting how from 2014 when you did the curvy log cabin you didn't cut to length, now 4 years later you are cutting to size... both beautiful though.
Molto molto bello!

Sounds like it would be pretty, Jo Ann!
A curved log cabin block with a different layout?
I wonder if it would work to bring it in to having the largest cut piece be 6.5 inches ... not going all the way to 8.5. I know it would make a smaller quilt, but just wonder if the curve would still happen.
We have not tested that but that definitely sounds like a fun project with scraps! :)
Hermoso gracias
Look how tan you are Jenny! Must be having a great summer!!
love this!t I'm trying to figure out how I could make it into a QAYG quilt
Sew fun! ❤️
so love to watch jenny
I've always wanted to make a log cabin, but honestly have been intimidated by it. Love the way this one looks. I did have to watch the video twice because some things confused me. I have a question. Do you use the steam when pressing?
What is the finished size? I love this quilt!!!
64"x80" :)
Спасибо!

Looks like Chinese lanterns. ☺️
Mom Grandma my thought as well. It would make a great quilt just making one strip as Jenny did but surrounding the remainder of the quilt with blocks all made in background fabric. It would make it very modern and the log cabin/Chinese lantern strip would look beautiful
I agree, I will make this with some Asian fabrics I have. Green and gold.
I like the quilt pattern. Unfortunately, it is very hard to see the curved log cabins because of the poor choice of "print" jelly roll. The jelly roll is gorgeous and I love the colors, but it has too many light strips which do not have enough contrast with the background strips.
How much more fabric would I need to make this queen sized?
Is there a difference river log cabin and survey log cabin? Or is it called river log because it has a specific block layout?
Hi, Mary! The River Log Cabin has the curved look because of the layout, using narrower and wider strips. Hope this helps!
Hola soy española y me gustaría comprar telas como lo hago
But I love this one too.
Jenny can you tell me what pattern you used to quilt this quilt?
How many blocks go into this quilt and what is the finished size? I didn't catch that in the tutorial.
64 x 80 - click on the supplies link
What does it mean when you say, “you’re looking for the weave.” What is the WEAVE?
Very good tutorial Jenny, but could I make a little plea about the intro and ending music? Could it be much shorter? Quite honestly, it's driving me nuts!! I know I can stop it by turning the sound down but then I miss explanations, and sometimes I am not at the computer when it comes along.
Thank you so much for your feedback, we will take this into consideration for future tutorials.
My son misses the duck quack that used to be there after a few rotations of the tune.
I agree it is irritating
I miss the quack too. but I don’t mind the music - my kids hear and know I am watching Jenny! 💞
So PRETTY!

I like this. But only for lap quilt.
How many blocks across and how many down
What is the name brand of the cutting mat that Jenny is using
Hi Terry! Jenny uses the True Cut Mat by the Grace Company. Thanks for tuning in!
This is the only quilt so far, that I don't particularly like. I like the old fashion Log Cabin with either ref or yellow in the center of each block.
Rather then counting the lines on your mat why dont you turn your ruler sideways and use the measurements on it?
TraCy strobel counting the squares is Jenny's way of measuring. It's what works for her brain. We can all measure the way our brains work best at our own mat;)
