I saw these fabrics while browsing through Etsy and fell in love with them. I'm going to have to look for one of these jelly rolls! Your block with them really is beautiful.
I found you a couple of days ago and have gone back and watch some of your videos and I have enjoyed them greatly I'm a quilter and I have gone back and with your knowledge about how to make things simpler is amazing I have learned a lot because I am an old quilter where things were done differently than today and I enjoy your videos tremendously Thank you and keep up the good work🤩🤩
I started a log cabin quilt before COVID and had it hidden away. When I started it, I didn't really know what I was doing. All of my finished and partially finished blocked went counterclockwise. Oh, well. I guess if they are all the same, it won't matter. I'm left-handed and often get my direction mixed up. I'm using a solid aqua color on one side, and the side with prints is scrappy. I think whenever I do this block again, I'll be better prepared. Thank you for sharing.
Best beginner quilt video on UA-cam! I lost all of my sewing and quilting knowledge in the pandemic, but I’m so happy to say with your clear thoughtful instructions it’s coming back! I’m starting a log cabin quilt today!❤️🙏🌷THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I was lucky enough to catch your 1st vid and each one since. I am not able to to use my sewing room at this point and your vids have me wanting to get things to where I can. You have been so informative and so easy to follow. Thank you !
My maths could never work out variations on this delightful log cabin pattern. Could you please tell me how many 14 inch blocks one jelly roll should make?
Math is not my strong suit either LOL A jelly roll is approximately 1680" of fabric (length of all of the strips), the 14" block that I show in this video uses 104.5" of fabric, so you should be able to get 15-16 blocks :-) Good luck!
Thank you so much - hi from South Aussie- Tilda fabrics are my favourite-I have a lot of FQ and I’m sure I could use up some by cutting into strips to make my first Log Cabin
I really like your "slow enough" style. I can picture what I'll be making. Your video is also the first I've seen the block without using lights on one side and darks on the other. This gives more space for creativity. Thank you.
Can I add, to make as many blocks as you can, with each strip, the last and longest strip on the 1st block, should alternate to the 1st strip next to the center square, on that 2nd block, then work the prints backwards so you have enough for each print to be in every square. I hope that makes sense!
Thank you thank you thank you for not playing annoying music while you're talking. You have such a pleasant voice and your appearance is pleasing to look at thank you. I just subscribed.
I love the material but I guess I'm old fashion and like the light and dark. You explained everything so well and made it a lot easier for me to follow. Thank you ❤❤
Superb tutorial. Clear verbal instructions as well as clear video shots. Especially helpful were the tips on selecting the fabric order. Hope you do a quilt as you go tutorial.
Very super great instructions from start to finish. Cleared up my confusion concerning pressing and counter clockwise in beginning with first two squares. Excellent. Thank you
I am not fond of the log cabin pattern done the traditional way, but I love this one because it is scrappy. Just discovered you today and will be following you from now on. Thanks for a great video!
I love this! I've never wanted to make a traditional Log Cabin, but this is something that interests me. I love that I have an excuse to buy one of those beautiful jelly rolls that I've been seeing n the quilt shops. Thanks for the tips!
I am fairly new to quilting and a log cabin quilt is on my bucket list. Your video is excellent and very informative for a newbie! LOVE, LOVE your fabric choice.
Thank you Ledine for the music change. I absolutely love your understandable tutorial. Will check your blog properly regarding accurate 1/4” seams. Please carry on with your vlogs xx
I can’t believe I just found you! I’m sort of a newbie and I have learned so much from you already! I have 9 one yard pieces of batiks that I purchased for another pattern which did not work out for me. I’ll be using your log cabin pattern now! Thanks so much and I hope to see more of your wonderful videos!
Thank you for your video!! I am new to quilting and have collected jelly rolls but then I’m like what now??? lol. I really can’t wait for my day off tomorrow to start these blocks!! I look forward to more of your videos. ❤️❤️
You are such a great teacher. I love how you take your time and explain everything for us newbies. Thank you for sharing your gift!! The square was gorgeous!
This is a beautiful line of fabric. I liked your tutorial very much. I struggle with square quilts. I find they are too small and prefer the rectangular style better. I wonder if that roll would have enough to make another row?
I've just started quilting and use UA-cam videos for instruction. Your video was so great! Easy, simple directions to follow. I have subscribed to your channel and will be watching more of your tutortials. Thx, ~KG in the 'Sip
Great tutorial! I never liked "traditional" log cabin blocks. I love this scrappy look. I'm new to quilting, but not to sewing. I'm learning a lot from your UA-cam channel!
Just saw your video for the first time, &’I found it very helpful! I love making log cabin blocks, & I am going to try your method! I have a huge collection of jelly rolls to pick from!!
Definitly a fun scrappy practice piece. The next tutorial needs to be how to get the same cuts out of FQs. I can see it in my head. 😁 You can have all your stacks on a rotating mat to help with chain piecing.
Yes, I love chain piecing and to have all my stacks ready to go! FQs would be easy too, just cut them into 2.5" strips and then cut your width as you need :-)
I did a wonky qayg potholder. I just cut everything however I felt was easiest and then just cut them at the end of the row. It came out so fun almost like alive in wonderland.
I loved your video. It was very informative and easy to sew along with. That was a beautiful block. The material was very pretty. Can't wait to watch the next time.
Love this block! To make a total of 16 blocks, will you be using any of the 7 fabrics that weren’t originally chosen? I need to see the finished quilt! ❤️
Well I need to finish it first ;-) I'll see how many blocks I can get with the jelly roll and go from there! That's why I like projects like this, just go with it! No rules :-)
@@sugarstitchesquiltco I was thinking instead of making more blocks, how far would the jelly roll take you if you just continued adding on until you ran out of fabric?
Fabrics used in this video - Pie in the Sky Collection from Tilda Fabrics, purchased from The Grey Finch Company
I bought that same Tilda fabric in a FQ bundle and have been debating what pattern to use it on. This is a beautiful option!
I saw these fabrics while browsing through Etsy and fell in love with them. I'm going to have to look for one of these jelly rolls! Your block with them really is beautiful.
So glad I stumbled upon your informative Log Cabin tutorial. Never wanted to make this type of quilt. You have changed my mind. Thank you so much.

You won't regret it!!! And hey from Texas!
Enjoyed your quick 14” block method!
Thanks for watching! I like the larger size because it shows off the fabrics and my quilt will come together quickly!
Love that fabric! I made a quilt from it and still want more of that fabric!
The finished block has a very heraldic look - reminds me of a medieval shield. Gorgeous fabric choice.
You really simplified making a log cabin from a jelly roll. As you said and I hadn’t really thought about using some scraps to do this also. Thanks 😊
Glad it was helpful! Scraps are really fun too! Good luck!
