  • Part 7 of our in depth look at the Mesa/Boogie Mark V covers the Mark IV preamp circuit in channel 3. This is one of the most agressive sounds you'll ever find, with tons of gain, and extremely tight articulation.
    Check out the other parts of this series exploring all of the preamp modes of the Mark V and for more information please see our website at: www.haggertysmusic.com/shop/me...

    I just love the fact you play Petrucci so much. It justifies the tone of the amp very much...

    My pleasure. now that you mention it, I'd love to see/hear a vid comparing the Mark V's Mark I, 2c+ and IV modes to the original amps all through the same cab... and seeing how close you could get 'em sounding... with your playing, sound recording, settings knowhow etc that would be answer a lot of questions for the many folks asking the question, (myself included). :)

    I own this amp and its amazing, i have watched all the videos on youtube pretty much and yours definitely is the best. I've even learned some things i didnt know about it, thats just how versatile this amp is, its no wonder Petrucci uses 3 of them. It was also nice to hear this amp played the way most people are going to use it.

    @haggertysmusic express! there are a lot of good tones in that little box, it may not be as versatile as a mark V of course but... definitely worth its own video.

    Dude, all of these Mark V vids were excellent. That PRS ME LTD doesn't sound bad, either.

    This was a really great series on the Mark V , I've had one for a month now and love it.You really nailed all the sounds I was looking for and in a very clear way.I have a JCM800 2205 and love it but its not very versatile , this amp can get a sparkling clean , a broken up clean like fender amps , crunch and high gain sounds , and you can get them with 10, 40 or 90 watts so its playable in the house.

    @nznaturopath Actually we did just use the 2x12 as an amp stand. :-) In those two videos I referenced, the 2x12 cabinet was not plugged in at all, and you can clearly see the microphones in front of the combo.

    @Bigmik3031 Thanks for watching! I would like to do a video for the Roadster, I'm just not sure when we'll get to it. I'm sure it will happen eventually though. I think a Roadster vs Dual Rectifier would be a good comparison video too because those two amps have a different voicing.
    The cabinet used in this video was the 4x12 Rectifier cabinet.

    @thrasher10000 Cool man, thanks for watching! We did these videos with a Shure KSM 27 and EV Raven into a Presonus Firestudio and Pro Tools. Our newest videos are recorded with a Royer R-121 and True Systems P-SOLO Ribbon Pre.

    @mrichman For these videos we used a Shure KSM27 and Electrovoice Raven. 3-5" from the grill, each mic placed around the edge of the speakers dustcap.

    @gdomeier Two mic's. A Shure KSM27 and an Electrovoice Raven. Both mic's on axis, probably 6" from the speaker. KSM off center, Raven almost to the outer edge of the speaker. The amp was very loud in the room. Your certainly getting power tube coloration in these videos.

    Great demos great playing. I prefer the sound without the eq!!! Less sterile. Funny with my mesa studio preamp I prefer it with the eq...

    @AlvisLiquid We filmed the Extreme mode the same night as this video. Sorry, standard tuning was used. Maybe in a future video!

    @Guitarsthatkill Agreed, that would be sweet. I have a Mark I reissue at home, and could get my hands on a Mark IV. The IIC+ would be the problem... If you have one, we will film it!!!

    Nice! I just got the Mk V yesterday. Do you need to turn it up the Output knop very loud to get the tone in Channel 3?

    Hi mate, excellent demo! Sorry if this his been asked before but how did you record the amp for this vid?

  • @Guitarsthatkill
    @Guitarsthatkill 13 років тому

    @haggertysmusic I'd love to help...alas I only have the V...and I live in the UK too so that theoretical shipping would be horrific also.... lol Comparison vids of the MarkV/1 MarkV/IV though in the meantime 'til a 2C+ turns up would be killer though in the meantime....!!
    If we could see how close the other two models are, it could speak quite well for a logical guess as to how the 2c+ might stand up... :)

    hey whats up dude(s) great tone/demo
    is that a stilletto cab? i was also wondering if you could do a demo of the mesa boogie roadster..share settings...maybe add a overdrive as a boost also if you could do a drop tuned/HEAVY demo on like the modern and vintage channel thatd be great appreciate it.

  • @gdomeier

    Can you give some detail on how you miked up the cab and describe how loud it was "in the room" while recording?
    thx

    Many demos I've seen seem to sound very thin.. I'd imagine it's due to the mid scoop. Is the mid-scoop really needed to produce the best sounds for this amp? I like playing with a fair amount of mids in my sound, so I'm interested to know how it fares with more mids dialed in. Cheers!

    • @tragicallyhip1984
      @tragicallyhip1984 5 років тому

      Yes, the best sounds are with the mid scoop. What's nice is you can use the preset eq knob to dial in exactly how pronounced you want the mid scoop. I set the eq knob to 1 o'clock.
