In the game, Aubrey's reasoning for doing what she does in the real world always feels so brushed off and unimportant, when really, she was suffering just as much as the others, if not more, because to her it felt like everyone was leaving her behind on purpose. Like she was the only one who really cared about Mari and how the rest of her friends were feeling. Basil and Sunny might have isolated themselves on purpose, Kel might have moved on to find happiness since he couldn't find happiness in the space he once was, and Hero went on to college to pursue a future for himself now that his dream felt like nothing but pain... Aubrey was left to suffer, by all of the people she had considered her closest friends, her closest family, the only people who seemed to really care and they were pushing her away on purpose. The only thing she could do was cope with the pain that must have caused her, forcing her to grow into the person she became in the real world.

I don't know if this was intentional detail or not, but I like how no one at the school really knew Sunny and his friends that well: "They were friends, weren't they?" It's realistic and makes sense, because they would have gone to a big public school and they had their own little tightly knit friend group. No wonder they split up and went on to find some new friends at the school... after all, Sunny and Basil would not be able to face their friends anymore, not without feeling the immense guilt from their lies... I think its easy to forget that to Sunny, Aubrey, Hero, Kel and Basil it was "us versus the world" when Mari was there -and with Mari gone, that group was torn apart.
i feel bad for Aubrey. she was “desperate” to go back to the way things were before Mari died. and i can also see basils guilt in his expressions and actions. good animation. 10/10 ❤️
This made me tear up real bad, seeing a smidge from aubreys side of the story really is just as heartbreaking especially since she’s one of my favorite characters, your way of writing is phenomenal ! Please do more I’m all for it !! 💞💓💓 definitely subscribing after this
Aubrey is my favourite out of the main cast. Her backstory made me cry, her whole attitude in the dream world In comparison to the real broke me. Seeing my favourite character be crushed by the death of her friend. This animatic is outstanding, I really look forward to the next part. It’s really well made.
I wonder, what killed Mari, the stairs or the hanging? Cause she could have just been unconscious, and it normally takes a couple of hours, days or maybe even a few weeks. Basil might have killed Mari by hanging her. Edit: I got thousands of comments say this wasn't the case and I agree lol. For the past 4 months I have been spammed saying it was the stairs. The goddamn fucking stairs.
im pretty sure its the stairs, because the point of the game is that sunny killed mari, not that basil killed her. it would take away the meaning of it being an accident that sunny comitted. basil only covered it up, and they were 12 when it happened, so they have enough sense to check if she was breathing or not.

basil and aubrey's friendship was always especially compelling to me...i really wish we'd gotten to see them interact even a little bit once aubrey realized the error of her ways
I love this, this is one of the best animatics I have found focused on Aubrey! even if its just a little part of the history you know how to tell it well and to keep it interesting! I would really love to see a part 2 or even more! this deserves a lot of love

For me in 6th my long time friends just like forgot I exited and don’t talk to me anymore and its been years. Honestly it’s probably my fault but they don’t even really act like I exist. I have new friends now but I can’t help but wish they would try to talk to me.
Okay we can all agree that the sound design is just as good as the base game's desing Also the concept is cute and may be the only thing that 'may' make me like Aubrey, I'll make sure to stay tuned :) y'all are amazing
actually would like to see a game which shows more about the other friends expect from Sunny, it just feels not right that we didn't have scenes like this, because it could be so good.
Nice series, I really hope that we get to see how the hooligang makes part into aubrey's life as her new group of friends. Kim is a bit of a jerk but they are not legitimately bad guys. They just the group of cringy and edgy kids in the outcast school group. I always got the impression they are there mostly as a group of friends than a gang of delinquents. Aubrey quickly became the leader given that she was the strongest of the group and at same time Kim (as shown as Berly in the dream world) always had high regards for her and was the formerly the most bossy figure of the group. They might not had been aubrey's best friends ever but they became all she had (still she needed to go to church in order to find a safe place regarding her trauma with Mari's loss).
OH MY GOODNESS this is so underrated!! It's so well drawn and everything about this is just amazing!!! I love aubrey too and seeing this made me happy because I don't see too many animatics centered around aubrey
God even from the start, seeing Aubrey standing with her parents at the funeral, and how just absolutely dead inside Hero looks is heartbreaking. And Aubrey taking care to think about Sunny... but he only sees his guilt, Something in his eyes. 2:29 Excited is... one way to word it. And poor Aubrey going to school all alone now. The kids at school talking about it is a nice sense of worldbuilding though. 3:27 Aw- and Aubrey trying to brush off how pushed away she feels from Kel. 3:48 Like the sky brightening up, as if Basil is pulling himself from his dark thoughts and feels just a bit happier seeing Aubrey again. 4:15 _Everything is going to be ok..._ 4:21 Hah, cus both Basil and Aubrey canonically vented to Sunny. 4:42 And here those dark thoughts start flooding back... 5:02 She looks so happy... which makes it even sadder knowing what happens next. 5:24 Something all around us. Pft- thanks Aubrey, and love how you timed the music there.
I loved every part of this so much, like how well thought out the shifts in the music were palaced and how much more unsettling they made certain parts. Also the little detail of something being in Sunny's eye at 1:30 is amazing!!
I discovered this yesterday and put it in the “see later” section because I thought it’s going to be the usual Omori animation, but I’m positively surprised! The thought going into this is magnificent!
ok i LOVE that part when basil and mari talk because someone who hadn’t played the game before couldn’t read basil if they tried, but people who know “the truth” know what shits bouta go down
GOD this animation is really good! Also the pain of Basil genuinely wanting to hang out with his friends, terrible at being alone, but the guilt eating away at him for spending time together with the people he hurt by lying is just too much to handle. My poor guy can't even feel happy without blaming himself for feeling happy. : (
noo i relate to aubrey sm, i relate to pretty much everyone in omori actually but especially her, basil and sunny bc my friend died about a month ago or so and ive experienced things that are eerily similar to them :(
I really love this. It just brings the character so much more to life and we don’t really get to see this side of Aubrey in the game. Young aubrey isn’t really shown this way since we get the headspace interpretation of who she was through omori’s eyes. Seeing this just makes you really wanna give Aubrey the biggest hug cuz yeah this was so rough for her… goodness well done. I really also admire hearing the music play during the playground scene with the sounds of children playing in the background. It’s an extremely soothing and nostalgic combination of sounds that just really puts me at ease but also makes me wanna cry.
This is such a hard watch emotionally, but the effort gone into it makes me want to keep watching. Great artwork and pacing! Looking forward to whatever you make next!

When on the truth part of the game you can interact with the body of Mari on the bed and it will say "This person is not breathing".
It was the stairs, as she would have survived the fall- but fell on the broken violin that Sunny smashed.
