Sound on Sound is/was always the best publication. Such great journalists here...and great workstation for music production/songwriters.

I went into Guitar Center just now on the way home.
I went in there looking at the Korg units since i had the original Karma and loved it.
I sat down with this and was blown away.
This is BY FAR the best keyboard/synth out today.
The sounds have been updated and EVERY sound is fat.
Plus you can edit any sound faster than any other keyboard ever!
The keyboard sounds are just amazing.
Go listen for yourself this does not sound like some fake virtual instrument!

I actually met this guy down here in Houston when he was demonstrating the V-Synth. He's a fantastic player as well as an all around good guy. For the love of Jesus I hope they enhanced the sequencer so we now have true pattern-based capabilities.

Even though I'm not looking to purchase the keyboard, the sales guy has managed to sell it to me. Just wish Roland would go back and recreate a real analogue synth that can emulate all of their classics like the Jupiters and Juno's and JX range. I haven't bought hardware synths for yrs but that would make me purchase.

You get everything right outta the box.
    1. Keyboard - right outta the box
    2. Power cord - right outta the box
    3. Manuals - right outta the box
    4. Sounds - right outta the box
    5. 128 tracks of midi - right outta the box
    6. Better feeling keybed - right outta the box
    6. Styrofoam inserts - right outta the box
    7. Need talent to play - sold separately
Correction to Mr Diaz comment in the video: It's actually 128 tracks of midi in addition to 24 tracks of audio which equates to 152 tracks in total.

@RedskinsGM2B well i am 17yrs old and im a piano player for 10yrs...i spent hours of searching for a nice keyboard and Fantom just dont fits on me...yeah u can say that i am a korg lover but i didnt say that Fantom is a bad keyboard...its great but not as good as the motif and the m3. Well the only good sounds on it are the lead guitar sound (indeed AMAZING) and a synth lead sound that i cant remember the name (for me i chose the m3 because it has a lot potentials...x-y mode 360 joystick karma)

Dillio102 "should i raise more money, return my fantom x, and get a fantom g, OR keep my fantom x?"
i was in your same position with a fantom X7 and when i found out the G6 G7 & G8 all came out i was interested immediately, obviously i saved the money for the X and it was a big commitment so of coarse i wanted the new G. spent much time playing in Guitar Center and decided i would get it, sold the x and got a G6, cause i'm a producer not a Keyboard player, 61 keys is perfect for me. Wow, things are sure moving forward in the synth world. I've been waiting to see just what they would come up with next, crazy. Using the X8 since it was released I've wished for some of these features(mouse, VGA, 24 trks, 16 Multi's etc). I'm afraid my present patches and work wouldn't just clone over to this new beast though with its new sound engine. Should I have just waited a few more years with my XV-88? Naa...

@marviosantos You're absolutely right, for electro. For real music, you use instruments that cost money, not $700 laptops! After all, to make money (or good music) you need to spend money. That's like "MUSIC MAKING 101".

  • @Superphilipp
    @Superphilipp 16 років тому

That depends on the kind of instrument you want to reproduce. For example, Synthogy's Ivory sounds better than any ROM-based keyboard piano but on the other hand it's 10 DVDs of samples.

@InnerflamesUnLtd honestly the only two things i can suggest for awesome sound these days are The korg oaysis and a hammond organ. unfortunately both extremely expensive. oaysis = 8k and hammond organ = 25k the oaysis focuses with max 8 diff ocilators and wavelenghts amazing....

Agreed. I too, miss the 360 action of my Triton & I've always had a soft spot for Korg. If they ever make another serious standard breaking workstation, I'll definitely buy one again. Heck, I'd buy the TRITON again if one came across my path. The new M series just felt too light & delicate for my taste. Felt like it might break if I started pounding during a rock rampage. lol Yamaha, I like them as a company but, lately they've seemed to stock the sounds for Hip-Hop.. Fail.

thanks man, I took a look at your suggestions and the microKORG XL looked the best out of those to me. two questions about that because I couldn't tell for sure. Does it have good drum sound and options?, and I saw it has a USB port, but can you play sound formats (wav, mp3, etc) off a flashdrive onto the synth and live edit it (like you can do with the roland G6)?

Hello. Does anyone know whether or not you can adjust the screen brightness of the Roland Fantom G keyboards. I haven't seen any physical knobs on the back panel, but I wonder if there's anything in the settings that will dim the brightness for lower lit room settings after the sun has set and there's not as much natural light coming into the window. Thank you so much in advance.

Lets see the Fantom G8 sells for $3,695.97. ARX-01: Drums and ARX-02 Piano expansion board sells for $445.97. Fully loaded this package costs $4587.91. I'm tired of buying Roland keyboard then expansion boards only for them to be obsolete with the next Keybard release. It was the same for the SRJV80 series now the SRX series. Don't get me wrong I'm a long time Roland user back from the days of the Jupiter 8, But this package is a little too pricey.

@Diablos199 Sounds alot like some pathetic hating going on...lol Fanboys or something. I've been playing over 30 years & I've had all the systems you can think of...from the classic Yamaha DX7, Korg Poly 800, Casio CZ, yadda, yadda...as of late, I had a Korg Triton X which I loved the board itself, the key action, the touch screen was nice but the menu interface made it cumbersome & the sounds seemed dull & lifeless, I now have the Fantom G8. By far, the best action & sound/features EVER!

Well im about to buy a keyboard and i was between Korg M3 Yamaha Motif and Roland Fantom...and my conclusion is...Fantom looks GREAT but sounds really crappy (wtf yeah u have an 8.5 inch screen with great quality but u dont have the most important....good sounds)...as for the Motif well it has the best pianos (Yamaha's specialty) and really really GOOD organs and strings, but it lacks on lead and pads which are very important to play some leads and to add expression on the song u play or create.

Thank God this kind of stuff wasn't around in the Beatles time. They would have been too busy trying messing around with the buttons to actually write any music. I've got a Roland synth module and OK in a way this technology is great but I can't help thinking that in the final analysis they somehow take away the real joy of making music and instead mess your head up with concepts of digital processing.
