Back in the 1970s my dad took me to the CIA in Langley to see an Escher exhibit of his work. It was breathtaking. The one where fish became birds was 25 feet wide; it took up an entire wall. All amazing.
I am a specialist in Escher's works and I have not heard of an exhibit at Langley, though there was a gallery in Washington, Mickelson's Gallery, that showed Escher works. Anything you can remember about a show at the CIA would be welcome. Escher had a collector-friend in Washington by the name of C.V.S. Roosevelt who worked at the CIA, so maybe it was through him?
Brilliant work, a master in his art!!!!! My favorite is what I call the Water Fall.... It's on the same surface as the plain. You can see a woman hanging her laundry on one plain and the water fall on another. Brilliant work!!!!!!!! I'm filled with joy!!!!😄😄😄😄😄💯💯💯♥️♥️👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🥰🥰🥰🥰🤗🤗🤗🤗🥳🥳🥳🥳
IT is a,awesome video well performemed and editing ,you lake go back when i was 10 Yeats old ,and see for the first time this imagen, was from a book of a Friend ,it it awesome..
i love escher , have many (most) of his prints in reproductions and i'm 80% done building my retirement home in the philippines inspired by him and frank lloyd wright out of concrete. i've never built a house before but spent years doing it in my imagination while driving my 18 wheeler over the road as a truck driver. i kind of overdid it strength wise as far as rebar and concrete composition , but not being a structural engineer i wanted to 'cover my butt' in this regard 😃🤣i plan to laminate and frame all my escher works and hang them throughout my home to enjoy as i grow older.
I don't think a lot of them were paintings. You would need to research this to know for sure. If I'm not mistaken his passion was lithography. He also did a good number of woodcuts. A lithograph is an image etched into a stone with a flat surface. Once the surface is prepared it is covered with ink and pressed against a piece of paper to transfer the image. A woodcut is the same thing except the image is etched or carved into a piece of wood instead of stone. To me, that takes his work to a whole new level of complexity. Google his name and look at some of the stuff. It usually tells what type of piece it was.
Clearly symmetrical surrealism. The fact that such an appropriately well known artist when I was in college, if remember, I also thought it was all great, and is just another excuse for myself.
So much of his work is mind-blowing....but to accomplish these images by carving them into wood, then rolling ink on paper spread out on top of the carving....well...
God only knows the things that were in his mind. Guess he only had one lifetime to put them on paper. Brilliant. Thanks for sharing.
Exact thing i thought.. He was an absolute GENIUS.
The working of the human mind is infinite, limited only by fear; fear of the unknown. Thanks for uploading.
Well put :)
I never tire of seeing Escher.

版画家MCEさん。下手な画集買うより良い。彼自身数学者ではないと言っていたのと生涯に残るのは虫を正確に模写していた観察力に敬服。お気に入りのありんこの絵は出なかったが…

Ok, gotta ask. This guy makes a drawing called “Relatively”and his name is M. C. Escher. Am I the only one seeing the connection?
Well spotted Tom👍
