The non S Turbo Coupe is my favorite variant. The torque is very close to the S and hence the acceleration is very very close, so close that for all purposes it is identical. The price difference of 30k makes the non S a sensible and a great “value”.😎 Mine comes this May.👍
The regular Turbo also doesn't force you get the centerlock wheels, PCCBs, and PDCC. I also appreciate that it just has the simple 'Turbo' badge like the old cars and not 'Turbo S'. With a simple stage 1 tune (M-Engineering, etc) both can be tuned to pretty much the same power. Overall, I think it makes a lot more sense than the Turbo S, but no one seems to buy the regular Turbo, everyone feels they must get the Turbo S.

A great review again herr MM ! A year and a bit ago, my 911-loving wife and I sprung for the last of the 991 Turbo, non-S, after coming to the realization that there were a significant number of "normal" 911 Carrera coupes, moving out the door at our local dealer, for final prices HIGHER than the base cost of a non-S Turbo (due to the famous option game....) This was my light-bulb moment, and many months later, we took delivery of a grinch-spec non-S Turbo. Full disclosure, I cannot tell the 0.1 second difference in 0-60 times, and neither will any of you. At least here in North America, a base Turbo is truly a bargain do-it-all supercar.
I’m glad that the boss insisted that you do a proper launch control test for science of course. Kumo’s dedication to his craft is why your channel has the best reviews out there. Keep up the great work you two!
I like how Kumo is presenting the different views and angles of the car. Very professional, taking himself a bit back and let the pictures work. No unnecessary talking. Just the pure impressions. - I think he has a word in the editing process too. Great Result! Great Video!
Driving my Porsche is so much fun. When i get where i am going i am sad because i have to stop driving it for a little while. They are extremely fun to drive
Currently have a down payment on a Targa GTS for whenever it’s released. Would get the Turbo S Cab in its place if it just came with a damn manual. Know it’ll never happen but I can dream.
You are the only one that made a deep comparison between the Turbo and the Turbo S, and I congratulate you, because it is excellent! Great video, great insights! I'll take the Turbo Coupe, thanks... saludos desde Colombia!!!
Yes agreed - and it's independent of the car which is normally very important to me - but 90% of the cars George is reviewing are in the "awesome" category
Absolute best car reviews on UA-cam. Intelligent, articulate, very well researched in other words the thinking man's reviews vs 19 year goober Joe who's father's friend owns a dealership. Thank you for intelligence!!
MotoMan another great video thank you. Very interesting how Porsche can successfully segment these different models across the 911 range. I enjoy your extras segments in the Porsches as what they charge for or include at no charge is a moving target.
Wow! This is a stunning automobile. I am totally mesmerized by the color combo of your tester. White paint, red top, and white seats!!! Absolutely gorgeous! 🤩 STELLAR REVIEW, as always, Motoman. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Certainly, sir! I can't wait to share my take on CX-30 with you. I actually got the non-Turbo variant this time around, but I'm still very excited to post it. Working on it as we speak! 😁 Hoping all is well. Take care!
My 2017 991.2 Carrera is Carrera White and has Bordeaux Red-and-black leather interior. So I'll forgive you for knocking my preferences. IMHO white exterior color shows off the attractive form and proportions of the 911, allowing subtle shade and reflection accentuate its appealing shape. Other colors mute these affects and the car's overall appearance of form. Another benefit of white is, it actually hides minor nicks and scratches that occur to every car if driven. And it holds up over many more years. But I'm glad not everyone sees it this way. I don't want every 911 to look like mine. Thanks for another informative and interesting discussion.
Not a cabrio fan... But Porsche, yes. Why so many people talk about "overpriced" is beyond me, but each to his own.... The Turbo S will do just fine, thanks. Great review, as always 👍🏻
The Turbo is a great variant. Those quad exhaust tips are x100 better looking that the strange oval ones with the sports exhaust. 18-ways, ventilated seats, and good interior / exterior colors are the only essential options.
The base Turbo is the performance bargain of the century .. no doubt. Highly optioned C4S will approach its base price and once the 992 GTS comes out it will most likely exceed its base price. Once Porsche gets it production train going the 992 base Turbo will sell as fast as the GT cars.. and in much higher numbers.
I have the turbo S coupe. Awesome car , I love it. Hate the ceramic brakes . I also hate the computerization . Takes 2-3 swipes of the computer screen to do what one push button did. After a few track days they squeal. Nothing more horrible than coming up to a city center in a “super car” and your brakes squeal. We track our cars. I would rather have steel brakes and replace them when necessary. Thinking about trading in to a turbo .
Crazy is the right statement to the Turbo Cabriolet...but if I invest so much I would always go either for the top (Turbos S for me please) or I would look for my personal perfect balance, meaning a Carrera S Cabriolet for long distance gliding (GT) and going "Serpentining" in the Alpes - can't wait.... Love the combo red interior and white outside - classic! Wishlist: No bi-colour leather - not this one at least - I know it's a tour-de-force from Porsche showing what is possible - but that's too much.
Something I always remember when seeing 911 Turbo reviews: Nearly 20 years ago at a California gas station, I complimented a fellow on his very new 911 Turbo. Turns out he was German and the car was his third or fourth 911 - but his first Turbo. He wasn't impressed. He shrugged at it and said one would have just as much fun with a less expensive iteration. "A base model is just as good." Was the principle of diminishing returns at work here? More to the points raised in this review, A) that car looks suspiciously identical to the one Tom Voelk just hooned around in his Seattle area video review. B) that's the ideal color spec for a Stanford alum; being an alum of the finest public university in the world - right across the Bay - I HATE that color combo. And C) I'm in my 27th consecutive year of living in NYC and when dealing with crazy on a train, we don't get off the train; we change ... cars.
nice review, would also go for the "humble" turbo...for what it's worth the price diff. w the turbo s is about 32k (not 40k)...but yhea ....who's counting at this point :)
You should wear a tuxedo, a top hat, and hold the same type of cane that Lloyd waps Harry with in Dumb & Dumber when you do “The Options Game”. I don’t know why, I just think that would be cool...
A Turbo S Targa? Pleeeze, Zuffenhausen make it so...along with adjustable head restraints. (My MB wagon has such, and is really handy on long trips to move.adjust for comfort.)
Hi, Motoman: I absolutely love your videos! They are super informative, witty, and humorous-- total fun to watch and to learn!! However, I do have a question for you! On your last Mazda videos- especially the Mazda3, Mazda6, and CX-30-- you do say that you like these cars very much. BUT, at the end of each, you emphasize that they are all TOO EXPENSIVE ( roughly around $35,000). On this Porsche Turbo, you extol its virtues and mention how it is priced over $200,000. BUT, at the end, you NEVER explicitly mention that this is EXPENSIVE!!!! Heck, you could buy SIX Mazdas or more for the same price!!!!
Good question. When I discuss money in the episodes, it is all a function value. What does that dollar figure buy you? In the case of the Mazda3 2.5 Turbo @ US$36,000, great car but that is FAR too much money for a C Segment car with mediocre power and less than optimal suspension. For that same money or less, one has many other better choices. In the case of the Porsche @ just under US$200,000 base price - yes, a lot of money but there are very few cars that can offer that performance at any price. The other options that do, are significantly more expensive. Yes, there is the Corvette, but comes no where close on build quality and overall driving dynamics.
Free market Americans crying in their milk that Porsches are expensive is twice as funny as 30 years ago. Put the price of this car through an inflation calculator to find out why. :)
@Alaberti It's actually even funnier because the main pillar of America's economic empire is a free market economy and that will never change as long as the empire exists. Drop that and they'll lose most of their satellites. The problem is, they are not a nation anymore so political nationalism for them is secession and economic nationalism will hurt the ethnic and racial interests of various minorities. Thus, economic nationalism is "White supremacy". So their average income is guaranteed to continue its progress towards equality with the third world. Luckily for Porsche, despite protectionism doubling the price, Porsches are not expensive in China. :)
I don’t blame Porsche, but I’m sad the 911 has gotten so far from its sports car origins. The 992 has become so heavy, big, powerful, luxurious, and expensive. That appeals to a certain buyer, but not me.
Did he say that the U.S. government is mandating always-on high-beams? I can't find anything online that confirms that but if so that's really stupid. Unless the car lets you dim them for oncoming traffic or does it itself.
Said the opposite. The 'always on' high-beams are currently legal in Europe. Many of these EU market cars that are flown over here for testing have them and can say from first hand experience they make a world of difference. This one had them fitted as well (ua-cam.com/video/bU-DtPtcbMk/v-deo.html). Sadly, the US has not legalized them yet - mainly because they are dragging their feet on testing.
Okay, so I researched the technology they've employed in Europe and it's Adaptive Driving Beam headlights, which DO switch off automatically for oncoming traffic. That makes a world of difference and I think that's really cool. I wouldn't mind having those in the states.
Your "properly specced" is someone else's overkill. It is a driving car, and even bog-standard comes with many features that are options on standard Carreras. Even for those with some funds to spend, $30-50,000 is real money, and deciding not to spend it is far from being a cheapskate.
The non S Turbo Coupe is my favorite variant. The torque is very close to the S and hence the acceleration is very very close, so close that for all purposes it is identical. The price difference of 30k makes the non S a sensible and a great “value”.😎
Mine comes this May.👍
And, to me, steel brakes are preferable

Excellent review, as usual. Speaking of wishlist - How about a 7 speed manual. I think that would be the ultimate option for the turbo or turbo S.
That’s what the GT3 is for.
@@MotoManTV Maybe, but it's not outside of what Porsche has done... Ergo - the 2008 GT2. Lots of HP and a Seven Speed - Manual.
I would definitely get this car as shown!! Beautiful ride man!👏🏾
I used to get lightheaded when I launched my 520hp 991.1. I can’t imagine launching this car or the S.

991.2 turbo s coupe has 572 bhp and 205mph top speed too.
