If the FA think that the best person should manage the England men's football team, regardless of gender, then why did they appoint Southgate?
Because he did well in under 21 and yes man
Because Southgate is kinda person FA like
Other than Phil Neville, Southgate is the closest you can get to a woman in a man's body.
Spot on!
Kikiki spot on mate
Getting tired of the pops and digs at the Men's game because of the achievement of the Women. It is doing both games a disservice.
To win a major tournament in the Men's game is infinitely more difficult and that is no disrespect to the Women but the Global competition to win is much more fierce
It's the difference between winning the Champions League and winning the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Yes the second one is an achievement but the women's game has decades to go before it's even close to comparable and in all honesty it may never catch up.
When the FA start charging the same prices as they do for mens internationals, and stop giving away thousands of tickets to schools etc, then we'll see how popular womens fotoball is.
Wouldn't you want to advocate for less expensive tickets for both...

@@VR46314 There is a push to corrode the concepts of masculinity and femininity and to deny that men and women are not the same.
Do not underestimate stupidity
@@cbappa1 15 yo boys beat any pro womens team with their PE teacher
There is no doubt that women's football receives less funding than men, and only time will tell whether forcefully reducing that gap will reduce the gap in quality between the two games. The necessity and willingness to increase the funding/awareness of the women's game is political, but that doesn't necessarily mean its a bad thing. Any efforts to reduce the disparity between the men and women's game seems like a good thing to me. It's not taking away funding from elsewhere, and the increased exposure can be ignored by those that don't care.
However, there is only so long that it's success can hinge on political will. Given the world we live in, if it's commercially successful, it will flourish, if it's not, it will flounder. Nothing to do with its quality, eventually it will be live and die by the viewers and participation it brings.

He has a knack of derailing the conversation to give himself space to pontificate, misuses his vocabulary, and holds grudges. Martin thinking with his feelings
Once current and ex England women players started having a go at Souness, they lost a fair few fans. The virtue-signalling is not a good look.
Martin asking about whether the women accepted Neville without having the credentials was a fantastic question! Not what I expect from talksport 😂.
I heard from other football pundits and experts that Phil Neville wasn't good enough to coach at a higher level!!!!!
Sorry it’s not the same argument as Neville had played and coached at a far higher level than women’s football prior. Coaching the Women’s national team and then managing Premier League players in the national team are entirely different. The game is a different level. Not saying it can never be done but going from one straight to another is dumb
Women's football is below U15 level. If Neville can coach at that level, he's more than qualified to coach any women's team.
She goes on about not putting a man who hasn’t coached at the top level into the England position did Southgate coach any teams in the prem or any other leagues before he got the England job ? She’s talking waffle

My sister played football so I am speaking from a true position of having followed the womens game enthusiastically. I truly believe that in order for the women's game to become successful they need to break all ties from the mens game and set up their own division, leagues and clubs. The debate which led to the US womens team becoming utterly vilified rightly by the general public in America over equal pay was a prime example. There is far more interest in the mens game and I'm sorry but you're just not going to be able to convince the average bloke to give up his season ticket for his mens side that he follows every week at club level. The women's game should have been developed at grass roots level up like the men did in the late 1800s when they were ship yard workers, miners, factory workers etc. earning a pittance for a living. There is a sense of entitlement in the women's game which needs to be rooted out and I fully accept that it was disgracefully ostracised and even banned in some western nations throughout the 20th century. You do not get to tailcoat on the back of successful leviathan clubs of the mens game and demand equal pay for a game which has a much much smaller fanbase, most women I know don't like football full stop never mind will commit to following the womens game week in week out, organising buses and supporters clubs like ordinary young working lads do. These are just some of the issues I think need to be addressed in the womens game because the woe is me grievance politics that comes with it at times will put off a lot of men as if we're being personally attacked for how under supported it is at the club level,. Instead the womens footballers should start attacking the women in our society for not lending support to the sport full stop never mind the mens game. Apologies for the long comment but I felt this needed to be said.
But a main factor why they are gaining traction is due to women’s football being associated with premier league clubs. You can’t deny that and who will find them setting up their own clubs and pay for the ground facilities etc. That will cost a fortune.
No
@@TJTOPBOY Well that's the point, if it can't survive without being funded by the men's game then why try to act like a major sport?

Just like it's a huge gap between men's international teams and women's international teams. It really wasn't a complicated point to grasp.
The gap is miles bigger than non league to Premier league. Try from under 13s Sunday league to Premier league that's a more accurate comparison

Pace, power, quality, just a few things that make the men’s game totally different to the women’s game. I don’t understand why people think it’s almost the same when it’s not. She should go and manage a men’s club team before ever thinking about our national team. I watched highlights of the women’s game the other day and it’s like a totally different sport 😂 she’s doing amazing with Englands women so keep it that way, it’s so true that a men’s amateur team would easily beat the top women’s team without doubt

She would not be playing she would be managing. And god knows you guys could do with some help. You never win anything.
You know nothing about football. If you are talking about Rugby you are correct but in football it's about strategy, team, technique, knowledge of the game.
I completely agree, the women's game is completely different. Having this kind of success will inspire and will help propel the games popularity bringing more young girls to the game. This will in turn also help drive the maturity of women's game towards a higher standard of athletism, skill and the overall football knowledge for players and those who want to coach and manage.
Simon's best point I thought is the inference that its insulting to think that the men's game is the ultimate goal of all female coaches and managers, he is spot on its not.
I also think its disrespectful to talk about Serena being suitable for the men's England team on the eve of her first world cup final. The mens game never mind the England Manager is the furthest from her mind and the question should have been shot down. Btw also whether you like him or not, its also disrespectful to Southgate.
That aside, from a practical point of view, I do agree that regardless of gender anyone wanting to succeed as a manager of a men's professional team has to prove themselves in the lower leagues, gradually taking on more challenging positions as their experience grows. For a woman to succeed she will likely have more to prove and frankly thats ok too...but regardless its a long way off.
People talking about managing men's team to play men's football, not converting male players to female level. Discussion is - can she manage, can she choose right formation, right starting 11, can she call right players to the squad. No one comparing ladies and men game.

@@jonblazeinc I do believe that she is not fit to replace Southgate at the moment because YES I agree it's ridiculous especially when considering of how different the dynamics of women's football is plus the level of competitiveness of the whole world cup which is not at all the same as the men's. It's funny to see how cautious Simon seemed to be with his words here and deliberately highly respectful when speaking to a woman on this topic. He usually isn't like that at all is he? He doesn't really care if people get upset by what he says (to say the least!). But I guess he knows the absolute backlash/cancellation he could get if he spoke too bluntly about this topic, to a woman too.
He still spoke his mind but I felt like he would've said a lot more if he knew he could do so without getting in trouble. There's no comparison between the ability of the men's and women's game and it isn't sexist to say that, it's observable fact.
You could also argue, against Keown's point, that even if women had been allowed to play football for longer over history, there would still be a gulf in class because men are (on the whole) physically better across many sports and physical activities at the top level. You can see this in women's tennis for example. Although the gulf in ability is smaller there, it's still clearly there. Women's tennis is still great but there's no raging argument about putting it on the level with men's because people can just accept the differences and there's no constant political agenda going on.
Simon is being used as a scapegoat, he never made one bad point agree that the loss to the womens game would be vast

Keown.. a woke warrior. My dad wasn't able to play football because he couldn't afford the subs for playing Sunday kids football let alone a pair of boots back in the early 80s as a 9 year old.. Karen Keown ! Stop looking back.. make a change for now. My dad now sponsors a whole kids team with 5 age groups supplying kit and boots.. whilst making sure the kids pay nothing to play.. this year costs have doubled because girls have there own teams now.. I suggest Martin gets out there and makes a difference himself
Well said and good stuff from you father
this equality movement is getting out of hand these days 🤣🤣🤣
Sarina, will probably be unveiled as the mens Saudi national team coach by Sunday evening.
Saudi don't entertain women in the limelight
Len2415 they have the right idea
Let's be honest, Neville got the England job on name only, not managerial ability and got found out. Jobs should be appointed on talent and ability regardless of gender.
tranny for England manager 2024... lets go!!
If it's the best person for the job why not.
god help us!

Cobblers! Wait a couple of years then it's A.I. all the way!
Phil Neville a publicity stunt - spot on, got it in one
Imagine her doing a post match team talk and saka casually walks into the changing room with his meat out. Oops
I'd rather watch her England men's team than Southgate's....
I see Martin still doing his exam revision !!!
Yep! He forgot about the two World Wars that had zero impact on men's football, NOT. 🤯
Men's team is above that 😂 if a WSL manager got an offer in League Two men's side then they are taking it everyday of the week.
Never coached at the top of the mens game? He was coach at Man United and assistant manager at Velencia.
Both are considerably more prestige then being the England's women's manager.
So sick of this bs, Weigman deserves praise but the woman has never managed a mens game in her life, why is this even a conversation?
I think the england mens team would think she’s a great fit, she has has great ball knowledge
I bet she would have the cojones to pull off Harry Kane and put on Ivan Toney if the situation merited it!
@@rhysjaggar4677 😂😂😂
Err no they wouldn't as she's never played men's football. There's why most coaches are ex-players, irrespective of level. Plus she's not a man and men think differently from women. Damn it's like a simp chip has been placed in a lot of mens heads, judging by some of these comments.
Wow you're so funny. I'm literally on the floor laughing.
Honestly, I don't understand why we are even allowed to have a non-English manager at international level. I think the men's game should have male managers, I don't think Phil Neville should be managing a women's team, I don't think a Spanish guy should be managing Belgium. I think it's all kind of mixed up in a way that it shouldn't be. The whole point is to showcase your country's talent, not some other country's managerial expertise. If Pep comes and works magic with our squad and out-does Gareth, how is that a victory for England? It's a victory for Spain as well!
In an ideal world. But when has this world been ideal
If Gareth was manager of England women’s team and had to cope with the loss of arguably her three best players and then the suspension of another we wouldn’t get passed the group stages. Sarina is a brilliant tactician. Gareth is anything but. It’s incredible what she’s achieved. I would love to see her as England’s men’s coach. Sarina is on £400K . Gareth is on £4 million.
Southgate should be prosecuted for the crime of wasting England’s best golden generation 🤏
he's not. he's play maguire every chance he gets.
Last season Chelsea ladies manager Emma Hayes was asked if she consider managing mens football team in lower league. I loved her answer and how she put journalist on his backside.
Well? What did she say? Lol
I notice she won't attempt to try though after all the talk.
I learned 50 years ago that "hypothetical" conversations are meaningless as the dialogue will be "She WILL do well!" "No, she won't!" "She WILL! "Will Not!" etc.
The beauty of professional Sports is that there are no quotas and players and managers are chosen on merit so it would be fascinating but,I doubt,we will ever find out.
Hannah Singley DID, temporarily, take charge of the 4th Tier Club as Interim Boss and was not one of the 100 candidates for the permanent position.
Sorry. That is Hannah Dingley and I was referring to relegated Forest Green Rovers.
