I had a home based Bakery for 5 years. The running around to get supplies was so time consuming....cleaning my house/kitchen top to bottom when I had clients coming for taste testing (wedding cakes only)...Much better if you have a separate entrances, separate kitchen. If I do it again, I would buy a house with basement apartment to run it out of or another building on my property-not same kitchen I use in my house. Also I would have charged more for my cakes and not do allergy type cakes....too time consuming.
You are one of the most transparent & generous persons I follow. Thank you for freely sharing so much valuable and helpful information. I wish you much success.
Really enjoyed the detailed explanation of both sides. I totally agree with you 100%. It's very hard to put a dollar value on your time and creative work. I am grateful that you are sharing all these tips and experiences with others. Thank you
I appreciate your being totally candid about your different experiences. For those of us who are job shifting at the moment, because of the pandemic, this is very helpful.
Wow this is inspiring! Love that you gave us realistic pros and cons. I'm pretty new to your channel but I've been binging your cookie videos for a few days, they're so informative! I'm only 15 and I'm starting to sell my decorated cookies, I sold valentines day cookies last year at my sisters work place, and I've only had a few orders from family. I have an order next month, so excited! you've been very helpful I'm thinking of starting up a baking Instagram to get the word out there!!:)
That was a very honest explanation, I learned so much from you than watching a number of other channels which does not reveal anything on monetization. Good job👍🏻❤
Great video 💜 I can relate, I started an at-home cake business and after making what my customers ordered I was loosing the passion that I had when I started. I decided to start a UA-cam channel so I can create what I want and teach others how to become bakers (being a teacher is what I’ve wanted to do since I was 8 years old 🥰).
That's awesome! I think so often at home cakers and makers are severely underestimated for how much work ACTUALLY goes into their craft. Glad you've found happiness on UA-cam too! :)
@@SweetDreamsBakeShoppe absolutely! And I too would charge far less than I should have 🤦♀️ it’s hard to know what your time is worth when you are just starting out.
I’m not great at decorating (yet 🙂) but I am great at picking up details from watching a ton of videos. When Rachel puts her frosting on the side, she puts on a huge amount each time, and after the first scoop, she applies it to the frosting she just put on, not directly to the cake. Then she pushes it onto the cake. I think that keeps the crumbs from getting a chance to escape. I’m going to try this! Another great idea and great video… thanks Ashleigh! ❤️
This is the only time ive ever heard about how people get paid through UA-cam. Ive always wondered about why people would be uploading videos and interacting with us. Im glad its helped you regain your life
Thank you so much for this information Ashley! ❤ It is so inspiring to me. I started my channel in Sept. 2020, after encouragement from my son. Still finding my way through this journey. 😉
Really appreciate your honesty, it has been awesome hearing your journey so far! Love your videos! New subscriber here :) I’m just a leisure baker at home
How much can I realistically expect to take home every month if I am getting like 10-15 orders every week and I’m a premium priced bakery? As in, I focus on quality ingredients etc. I just need a ballpark number to know if this is even a realistic route for me. And is 10-15 orders a week a lot to you?
@@SweetDreamsBakeShoppe awww really?!! 😊 😊. I saw the video title and told my husband about how perfect it was because it’s so relevant to my situation.
This is so unbelievable!!! I found you shortly after I started selling my baking from home. That's not the unbelievable part. The unbelievable thing is that I am also a piano teacher on top of it AND I called my business Sweet Dreams but in Spanish because I live in Paraguay, so Dulces Sueños!! I love your videos and I have a question because i also want to go over to UA-cam for the same reasons you did but also because it really is hard on my back and I know I won't be able to do this for decades yet because of my age. You said you upload videos daily. So my question is: were you always filming everything you did and then when you desided to go on UA-cam you had lots of videos to edit and upload fast or do you actually bake something every day? Thank you for all your great tips!!
Hi ash! Question regarding the amount you made a month as a home bakery if you don’t mind! So, the average price for 12 dozen custom cookies is $45. So if you are getting 15 orders a week at $45 that’s $675 and $2700 a month. I’m assuming you were also selling cakes during that time as well? Thank you again for your helpful videos!
Hey, Kimberly! Yes! I was selling cakes, cake pops and Macarons as well. All of my orders also had a 24 cookie minimum and I was doing several 100+ cookie orders for highly customized designs as well. It was a crazy whirlwind doing that much at once!!
Ah I see! Definitely going to look into how to make macarons and cake pops! They sound like an easy add on to an order and I’m sure you can freeze them too! Thank you again.
@@kimchi8022 they’re both good for freezing. Macarons are a major headache to learn on your own so I highly recommend a class if you have one available to you! Sooo profitable though and such a great add on.
I used to enjoy baking. I made lots of cupcakes, cakes, and cookies. I also used to help my youngest brother bake bread. But guess what? I found out that baking is a men only activity because Hidekun Hah said so.

How do you keep your buttercream frosting from melting in the summer months
Keep it in the fridge for as long as possible and opt for American buttercream if it’s going to have time outdoors, but not in direct sunlight!

How many cookies are in an order with $250 profit?!
This would definitely be a larger order! I would say approximately 55-65 depending on the cookie.
