When I was in scouts we all had these with a dome clip connecting the ends, wrapped around our scarves. Making them was the most mind boggling thing we did!
Hi Mark, I’ve been doing leather work over 50 years including Mystery Braids that you refer to as trick Braids. Your videos are spot on . I learned from a saddle maker ,surprised to see it become popular again . Curious as to the maker of your straight edge, looks like a tool I need ! Thanks Greg
I've always wondered about this and my mind is blown! Thank you for making and sharing such a well paced and carefully explained video for us.

How much strength would a braid like this have? Say, as a handle with both ends attached to something?
Thanks for learning me this trick I watched many videos but l learnt it only from this video
I’m having trouble finishing it and wish you completed it
How long does this belt have to be for a braid with 4 strands? 5, 6, ...?

5:40 that's the first time the hole puncher is used like that 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks a lot it helped 💕
Nice video. I never thought about using the hole pliers like that, is it a common technique for leatherworking?
Hey!
It is used by quite a few. It is very affordable and some are quite good. A set of hole punches is also nice to have :).
Mark
I would have thought it is a quick way to dull your pliers where you hit it on top. Just a thought.
How thick is the leather for braiding a belt?
Hey!
Usually, leather above 8 ounces (oz) is used.
Mark
Mark the braider Thanks Mark!
