PlanetRockJesus I've seen it maybe twice. I think the biggest reason almost nobody does it now is the concern that they could more or less hand the other family the win that way if they got it right
Isn't it counter-intuitive? You should only pass when you think you know the category better than the other family AND that the other family will not know it well enough to finish it. It's really hard to be in a position to have that much insight into the other family. Families almost always seem to pass when they don't know the category well. That seems like the worst time to pass. How are you ever going to steal the win back when you're left trying to come up with the hardest answer in a category you already didn't know well?
I love the Original Family Fued with Richard Dawson! So innocent compared to the sexual inuendo's on the show now-a-days. It really cheapens the shows original image, as well as the contestants on the show. So sad!
Though I agree shows are a lot less innocent nowadays, using Dawson-era feud is like really funny to me on account that he was famous kissing all the women, and the way he comments on how beautiful they all are is still kinda creepy to me nowadays
One of the few times the theme song actually reached its conclusion during the credits...it rarely happened after that, since from the second week on, they made it longer by looping the first part of the theme, making it far less likely to reach the ending, except on rare occasions where the theme was started in an odd place during the close.
I believe they did because of the 200 point rule, but I think they wanted, afterwards, it would make more sense to make it self-contained, which explains why it went to 300 points a couple of years later.
Richard will always have a very special place in my heart. I am a lesbian and would have loved to kiss him. I know a lot of women on Match Game wanted to kiss him. However the one thing I don't know is if they were given a choice, which they should have been. No matter what thanks for posting these. They are wonderful and it's quite fascinating to see how the show grew and changed with Richard and with later hosts (present host excluded).
Mary Woodruff They were. In fact, there were objections early on from viewers. ABC then asked what they preferred, kissing or no. By something ridiculous, like 14,000-700, viewers preferred kissing. That settled that! But women did have the choice. Also, I remember promos where there would be women who would just go out of there way to make a presentation of the kiss.
They dropped it during the Ray Combs era, but brought it back w/the debut of the current version...since Steve Harvey took over, contestants frequently exclaim "WE GONNA PLAY, STEVE!!".
The guy on the buzzer is way too fast. Dawson barely has the words out of his mouth when we hear the buzzer sound. No pregnant pause, no momentary drama. It's like they were in a hurry to end the show.
thewhammy83 - Do you have early famliy feud 1977 episodes? Ive been searching for years. My family (Bullen) was on this show somewhere in between dec 1976-mar 1977. Cant find anything. ive gone thru all the 76 episodes youve posted. Shot in the dark. Please help?
The family feud strike buzzer (1976) is sampled (along with "evil woman by e.l.o. (1975)", "the house at pooh corner by kenny loggins (1972)", "alan parsons project album 1982" & "can't get it out of my head by e.l.o. (1974)") in "Face to face by daft punk" way back in 2000, is it?
@@maniacaloffroad5338 Actually From What I Gathered From A UA-cam Video About Richard Dawson That Didn't Happen Until Much Later When A Nervous Female Contestant Got A Kiss From Richard Dawson When Richards Efforts To Make That Nervous Female Contestant Feel At Ease With Just Words Failed The Only Thing That Worked Was A Kiss And After That Richard Dawson Would Make It A Regular Thing Of This Run Of Family Feud
you'd think the Moseley family would be black and the Levy family would be white, instead it's the opposite. Shane Mosley is black, Levy is Jewish, usually whites are Levy, and blacks are Moseley.
Every time Richard kisses the women of the losing team, on the lips, I CRINGE! Was watching an old episode here in Milwaukee, WI on channel 38.2 Buzzr TV and one of the ladies on the losing team was 14 and he kissed her on the lips! Ugh! I find it disgusting no matter how old! If I was on the show back then I would of told Richard not to put his lips on any of the women in my family because he'd be on his way to the hospital and I'd be on my way to JAIL! lol
Contestants were asked if they were okay with it. It was for love and luck. So many people try to find hate or fault where it doesn’t exist. Dawson is Feud.
Richard Dawson was cool when he began FF, but later on he got disgustingly creepy with all the kissing and touching. (Also, he would often appear on the show inebriated.)
Dawon didnt drink. Even on Match Game when all of the celebrities got toasted during the dinner break (they taped 5 shows in a row,) RD was the only one that didn't drink.
I wish they still did the families posing at the beginning with the intro of their names. It's fun!!
They don't do that anymore?
Bill23799 Nope sadly.
@@AllenMQuinn It might be a secret or something, idk. but I all I know is that I only say family feud on Hulu and didn't see them posing.
I 100 percent agree
50 years later almost, I have a crush on the late Mr. Dawson. He is terribly talented.
Almost no one "passed" in later episodes. I think "pass" is a great strategy.

I say passing would have worked better if the family gets the money with the steal answer. It was done I think on the combs episodes and maybe later
I like how they were doing the mannequin challenge at the beginning of the show
That was the way they all did it in the old days. It was supposed to be like a family painting. I wish they still did that in the new one.
I love the Original Family Fued with Richard Dawson! So innocent compared to the sexual inuendo's on the show now-a-days. It really cheapens the shows original image, as well as the contestants on the show. So sad!
The 70’s was a very sexualized era so I don’t know what you’re on about
Though I agree shows are a lot less innocent nowadays, using Dawson-era feud is like really funny to me on account that he was famous kissing all the women, and the way he comments on how beautiful they all are is still kinda creepy to me nowadays
@joswanell5792 This just tells me that you didn't GET the innuendos of the Dawson era. They were certainly there.

he was best host
He was the best host of this show
Guess this episode pre-dated Garfield
He said strawberry lol!
Richard did a very good Jimmy Durante impression @ 10:36.
Jimmy Durante, who was the narrator for Frosty the Snowman.
that fro though
Family feud 3rd favorite show
First _Family Feud_ with the long credits crawl (20:58).
Surprised Tom from Tom & Jerry failed.
I kept thinking Garfield or Heathcliff. They were around back then.
At the present time,Buzzr only shows the Richard Dawson episodes from 1980-Hopefully,they'll air the earlier episodes like this one.
Judging by after the FM, it looks like they were originally going for a Straddled format but ditched it at the last minute.
I believe they did because of the 200 point rule, but I think they wanted, afterwards, it would make more sense to make it self-contained, which explains why it went to 300 points a couple of years later.
Richard Dawson was apparently shorter standing up (here on Family Feud) than he was sitting down (on Match Game).
4:39, 5:09, 8:36 are LOL moments.
Charles' purple suit has got Willy Wonka vibes all over it!
I love Willy Wonka!

Contestants would state before taping if the did not wished to be kissed. Richard always respected their wishes.
I thought the kissing was creepy...
@@DS-ky9dl What's creepy about kissing? Most people do it.
Great Video!
The "someone famous with a big nose" question was reused in the first All Star Family Feud primetime special.
I'm going to go with Karl Malden.
That Fast Money round though...
two "sets" of teeth? lololol Wth,...
Have they stopped offering families the option to pass?
They dropped it during the Ray Combs era, but brought it back w/the debut of the current version...since Steve Harvey took over, contestants frequently exclaim "WE GONNA PLAY, STEVE!!".
THE HOT FIDDLE OPENING!
WOW…that was awkward…”You don’t LOOK Jewish”?!? It’s a religion Richard…🙄🙄
I loved this show but that one lady is shrieking in an octave that’s like nail on a chalkboard!
They had to put the (X) for Fritz.
GuitarSlayer1307 no, it's a (R) or a (C) because it's a sponsor
(X) for its movie being X-rated.
9:42 that's krazy!

Bugs Bunny got mad!
Who was the announcer on the pilot episodes before Gene Wood?
Johnny Olsen

At least also they would change it to 300 as a winning score years later which is still true today
Who's Morris?

I'm sorry I cannot help you. I haven't seen episodes around that era, due to GSN and Buzzr airing different groups and repeating them.

The original is the best
That one woman screaming was so damn annoying
Didn't start kissing the females yet, Loloud❕💋💋
I just watched a different episode but , they used the same cat questions on it - weird - did they do this often ? just wondering .
Bad hair, bad fashion sense .. 😆🤷♂️
Why isn't he kissing them.
Not all women chose to kiss him. They were given a choice and he respected their wishes.

The Mosley's dad never listens to his family! Irritating
Cher's nose is NOT big. She's beautiful!

Was this before Garfield
I believe he started around 1978.

At least Richard Dawson didn't do any kissing very early in his Family Feud career.
I've seen contestants on Match Game run up and kiss him on the lips years before Feud started.
