I'm pretty sure the pattern is supposed to go underneath the thing you put your beads on, that way you can see through it and don't have to count how far you are from the edge.
Mike - "Lets see if my snake stiffens up." Transition music - "P-p-p-p-p- Paedos!" ... I can't breathe right now. My lungs are seconds from collapsing after laughing so fucking hard.
"Kids are going to eat these, aren't they?" Funny you mention it.. Because the first rendition of these were called 'bindies' and they underwent a massive lawsuit because the water activated glue was poisonous.
"Kids are gonna eat these aren't they?" Yup. Thats one of the reasons the older sets were recalled. Kids swallowed them and they formed a mass in their throats closing off airways.
If I remember correctly, which is debatable, the first version had to be recalled because when kids swallowed the beads it was essentially like dropping E
lmao that was the aqua dots thingies... this is basically the same product but this time they made sure to change the name, and also making sure the product didn't contain that dangerous chemical .
Arvetis the instructions do suggest putting a pattern under the grid -- and note the shape of the patterns: they're made to fit. I do think I'd have used excess water, especially on the narrow bits, just to be sure (I'd probably have put a few beads in a little water together just to see if they'd swell up and stick together -- yes, that sounds kinky, I know). Mike did wait extra time for the water to dry, I'll give him that.
I did this with my kid and you really need to wait until it's dry. I think the water just activates a glue/adhesive in the beads which then has to dry to create a good bond. We put my kid's creations in the sunlight for an hour and that worked like a charm.
Fun fact: these were originally marketed as "Bindeez," but had to he recalled when it was discovered that the chemical used to bind them together turned into the GHB when swallowed.
First, they were Aqua Dots. Then they discovered that they contained GHB. So they recalled them and brought them back as Pixos, then Beados, and now Bindeez.
Didn't Beados originally come out a decade ago under a different name, only to be recalled due to the chemical used being similar to one used in a date-rate drug?
I saw a box of these in Wilkinson's last weekend. My initial reaction was identical to that of Mike's at 0:02. Seroiusly, who thought it would be a good idea to market these in Britain under that name?
I know this video is old but I used to have these as a kid! I made so many different creations with them, so they do work. I think I remember though that you don't spray them that much because it takes a lot longer for them to dry. I think I did like 2 or 3 sprits and then let it dry and then slowly pushed them out of their sockets to get the creation out. And they were really sturdy when they did dry completely. But this was still entertaining to watch and i'm glad I got to see something from my childhood be on your show!
please note that he literally only mainly sprayed one part of it, i used to have the original version of this (aqua dots) and the trick was to literally get everywhere wet with water. (he mainly sprayed the head which explains the tail breaking)
He did what the instructions told him to do. A lot of people on here bitch that he doesn't read the instructions or does something different. The instructions didn't say to completely soak the area. Plus, this version of the product, probably, isn't as good as the original.
nah i'm not saying he did it wrong, but i'm saying it is a possiblity considering the way it crumbled. and chances are yes it sucks more due to different chemicals
Here's a fun fact about these things: Every few years they get recalled or something similar because of the chemicals they use, then then next year they seem to come back with I different name. Each time they come back the stickyness seems to get worse. I remember giving my daughter some of these called bindees and you only needed 3 water sprays and 10 minutes before it stuck together properly.
I mean, you're right because (as usual) he didn't follow the directions; if he had, it probably would have been a lot easier to assemble the snake because he would have just had to trace the design.
Mike, the other name for these are "Aqua Beads" and yes, you need to add more water to them, and wait at least an hour if not more from them to dry. They are good fun, and the children I looked after loved them and could spend hours playing with them, making multiple patterens, wating for them to dry then making more hist they wait.
ten minutes of Mike Jeavons not following directions. Hence why I love his infomercialism videos. That and when he at US MRE meals for a week he thought that they ate one packet a day of MRE not realizing one MRE is one square meal. That was hilarious.
Hey hey! Something I own! Different version, same product. Works OK, but you do sometimes have to err on the side of caution with regards to water (I've found more to be better) and dry time. The weaker connections (the curls in the snake, in this case) tend to be more fragile. I swear it's just fricking glue balls though. Fancy, colourful glue.
I had the old fashioned version of this with little actual beads that you put on a pattern and you'd iron over a piece of wax paper and they'd melt together. This is certainly a lot safer but hell burns give a kid character.
They've been trying to sell those for years. When I was young they were Aqua Dots, then those got recalled for being toxic. Then a few years down the road they rereleased them as Pixos. And now I guess they're Beados
Beados were originally banned in Australia, after they found the glue they used was toxic. They recalled them and later re-released them with different glue. That's probably why they don't stick together properly.
I used to have p.. I mean beados as a kid. I never actually put them in the pen, I just took them out the little packets and started spraying water on them to see if they stick to my hands, which they did. Then I tried putting them in an airsoft gun. I was a weird kid though they should patent that, make a beado firing airsoft gun and your target is sprayed with water so the bullets stick
I'm pretty sre that they are supposed to get much wetter to work. Still even in the best setup they look like they aren't even going to work for even more then a few hours before coming apart. At least with the heated stuff they are solidly bonded together.
I guess it's just a difference in accent, because the name doesn't sound like anything inappropriate to me. Until he showed the picture I wasn't sure what he was talking about.
Paedophile is prounouced "peedophile" in the uk. which is because it's a greek word, and that's how it's pronounced in greek. nothing to do with an accent.
fun fact: I once got grounded because my mum heard me watching this advert. she came in about 30 seconds later raging at me thinking it said "pedos" and we didn't have the luxury of rewinding the television, so I sat there for a solid minute being told off for it, the next week of my life sucked
I think you could become a pro beado, you're really good at that Beado action. Actually my son uses these, he has Aspurgers and it helps him calm down when he gets upset. Unfortunate name though. 😂
Wish you would have tried again with more water and letting them dry like a day or so, just to see if the concept worked, but underestimated what you'd need.
It doesn't look like very high quality stuff, but, at the same time, you went with one of the thinnest designs it had. I guess more spraying or having the bottle closer would work better.
They had to recall these down in Australia and re-brand them because a kid swallowed one and it turned out the adhesive synthesized compounds similar to LSD when mixed with stomach acid.
CEO: Okay, we need a new product that is completely stupid yet easy to sell, give me your ideas! Manager: I've got something CEO: Okay then, out with it! Manager: I'm life there is one question that always plauges us. Fucking magnets, how do they work?
I swear I had those as a kid. I seem to remember them working really well and I made loads of stuff with them. I never bothered to follow the patterns though.
The name is so much more unfortunate considering that the original version of this product, Aqua Dots, had to be pulled from store shelfs because it contained GHB: the date rape drug...
It's like a level of purgatory. yes, you can go to heaven but first you have to successfully use this kit to make various designs. damn....the drying time alone is 20 mins & it keeps falling apart. Damn. RIP Malcolm.
I would just like to point out that in the US we pronounce pedo with a soft E. In fact when Mike first said it with a sharp E, my mind went straight to the scene from That 70's Show where Fez eats the Cheetos with pee on them and Kelso calls them peetos.
Surprised they didn't sell a folder you could keep your creations in.
Could have called it a Beado File!
Haha
Larry Bundy Jr You're a bad person on about 8 different levels. And that's why I love you.
Larry Bundy Jr Too many lostprophets on the existing product for the company to make such a thing!
haha brilliant
Oi. Larry, you just... ouch.
I'm pretty sure the pattern is supposed to go underneath the thing you put your beads on, that way you can see through it and don't have to count how far you are from the edge.
Will Herrmann I second that
YEP
why is this from 12 hours ago
Will Herrmann ikr
It's even in the ad. So yes, the pattern is meant to go underneath
Mike - "Lets see if my snake stiffens up."
Transition music - "P-p-p-p-p- Paedos!"
... I can't breathe right now. My lungs are seconds from collapsing after laughing so fucking hard.
"lets read the instuctions, I dont want to do it incorrectly"
Oh Mike no....
Omg 😹😹😹😹
At least they didn't include a bear pattern. all we need is the kids playing with a beado bear.
Instead there's the Beado Snake.
"Kids are going to eat these, aren't they?"
Funny you mention it.. Because the first rendition of these were called 'bindies' and they underwent a massive lawsuit because the water activated glue was poisonous.
Seen these before as "Bindeez" or in America called Aqua Dots. There was a major recall because they "accidentally" made the beads with GHB in them.
Have you tried using cheese to make it stick together?
Laughing at this for another reason from Canada where the Ped is pronounced like bed.. I was more confused than I like to admit at first.
Small beads that stick to things when dampened? That sounds like a fantastic thing to sell to children!
"Let's wait and see if my snake stiffens up."
-Mike Jeavons
BOP-BA-BOP-BA-BOP-BEADOS!
"Kids are gonna eat these aren't they?"
Yup. Thats one of the reasons the older sets were recalled. Kids swallowed them and they formed a mass in their throats closing off airways.
A fun drinking game,
Drink a shot every time you hear the word “Beado’s”...
If I remember correctly, which is debatable, the first version had to be recalled because when kids swallowed the beads it was essentially like dropping E
"We getsome nice little patterns for the beado thing
little beado instruction
lttle beado string"
Such poetry
am sure this was recalled because the glue used is also a date rape drug
callum powell That was an old version. They've had like 16 different versions since then.
lmao that was the aqua dots thingies... this is basically the same product but this time they made sure to change the name, and also making sure the product didn't contain that dangerous chemical .
Yeah that was the older version. Where I'm from it was called Bindeez.
No no, you're thinking of Cosbeedz. Very similar product though so I understand the confusion.
callum powell that was "aqua dots"
lol mike... how do you never use anything correctly ever?
Arvetis the instructions do suggest putting a pattern under the grid -- and note the shape of the patterns: they're made to fit. I do think I'd have used excess water, especially on the narrow bits, just to be sure (I'd probably have put a few beads in a little water together just to see if they'd swell up and stick together -- yes, that sounds kinky, I know). It's almost like following the instructions with a product is an integral part of a good review. XD
Because everything he uses does not work the way it's supposed to.
Cider Applecake yea my 10 year old was able to make this toy work when she was 9 lol
it looks like a cool sports car
"An excellent reference"
Chef Excellence And FRESH is always healthier than REGULAR beados!
Maybe the wife can help you stiffen up your snake.
AdalRoderick That was a joke, son.
Thank you. Proud of it.
bit disappointed you didn't spell rude words with it.
RIP Headphone Users
Doublehelixca Joke's on you, i love the clicky crackly noises.
No problem for headphone users, they can get sound locker, it's free and it limits high volume spikes.
... ...WHAT???
The noise of all that packaging is making my brain hurt.
His camera really picks up crinkling noises, for some reason.
Fun fact: these were originally marketed as "Bindeez," but had to he recalled when it was discovered that the chemical used to bind them together turned into the GHB when swallowed.
Those things were made by Peter File
Oh man i remember these! The glue on them used to metabolize into a chemical similar to rohypnol and put like 3 kids into a coma after they ate them.
First, they were Aqua Dots. Then they discovered that they contained GHB. So they recalled them and brought them back as Pixos, then Beados, and now Bindeez.
Wants to make a snake, makes a Bellsprout instead.
Oh that's right, I watched the first half of the video forgetting that British people pronounce pedo 'pee-do' so I didn't get any of the jokes lol
Didn't Beados originally come out a decade ago under a different name, only to be recalled due to the chemical used being similar to one used in a date-rate drug?
Didn't these get recalled at first (and then re-branded) because you could make a daterape out of them or did I just hear that somewhere
There's also a similar product called Quixels. It's like Beados but it's pixel art! There's also a voxel version called Quixels 3D.
I saw a box of these in Wilkinson's last weekend. My initial reaction was identical to that of Mike's at 0:02. Seroiusly, who thought it would be a good idea to market these in Britain under that name?

That awkward moment when you know he's doing it wrong, but you just can't stop watching...
Leave it to mike to mess up using a toy for children.
He really didn't though. He did everything that the instructions said. It seems like just a shit product.
please note that he literally only mainly sprayed one part of it, i used to have the original version of this (aqua dots) and the trick was to literally get everywhere wet with water. (he mainly sprayed the head which explains the tail breaking)
He did what the instructions told him to do. A lot of people on here bitch that he doesn't read the instructions or does something different. The instructions didn't say to completely soak the area. Plus, this version of the product, probably, isn't as good as the original.

Beados in speedos~!

When wearing earphones the sped up part sounds like im playing silent Hill 😂
you did it wrong.
As per tradition. Children's toys vs. Mike 1:0
Yeah! He didn't spill enough beads all over his floor and lose them in the carpet, what a fucking casual. He always does everything wrong.
I mean, you're right because (as usual) he didn't follow the directions; if he had, it probably would have been a lot easier to assemble the snake because he would have just had to trace the design.
this with youtube's subtitles is brilliant

the pattern goes under the tray also u need make sure full covered and wait overnight it does work as I used to own it
ten minutes of Mike Jeavons not following directions. Hence why I love his infomercialism videos. That and when he at US MRE meals for a week he thought that they ate one packet a day of MRE not realizing one MRE is one square meal. That was hilarious.

The kids I baby-sit love these things. Yeaaaah, you totally struggled with something a 6 year old can do :P
One of your funniest openings yet! Now that's gunna be stuck in my head too.
I had the old fashioned version of this with little actual beads that you put on a pattern and you'd iron over a piece of wax paper and they'd melt together. This is certainly a lot safer but hell burns give a kid character.
00:34 Bloody hell, my sides have left this planet.
Same here lmao
0:22 "Introducing Pedo's" SH SHHHHH NOT IN FRONT OF THE KIDS
They've been trying to sell those for years. When I was young they were Aqua Dots, then those got recalled for being toxic. Then a few years down the road they rereleased them as Pixos. And now I guess they're Beados
Beados were originally banned in Australia, after they found the glue they used was toxic. They recalled them and later re-released them with different glue. That's probably why they don't stick together properly.
You didn't even try to fill the pen with cheese. Can the pen grate cheese? I have to know.
I used to have p.. I mean beados as a kid. I never actually put them in the pen, I just took them out the little packets and started spraying water on them to see if they stick to my hands, which they did. Then I tried putting them in an airsoft gun. I was a weird kid
though they should patent that, make a beado firing airsoft gun and your target is sprayed with water so the bullets stick
omg I am so happy I found this, I watched that commercial as a kid and I always wanted these but never got them ;o; damn
It is good to see how absolutely vital the pen is to this toy when your hand is correcting mistakes caused by it constantly.
YAY another one of these. Your acting is amazing in these lol.
In the US these were called Aqua Dots. It was pulled from stores because the glue breaks down to GHB if swallowed.
Every time I hear that song, I can't unhear "1-800 STEAMER!" ...Which probably isn't any better lol.
I'm pretty sre that they are supposed to get much wetter to work. Still even in the best setup they look like they aren't even going to work for even more then a few hours before coming apart. At least with the heated stuff they are solidly bonded together.

Calliope Pony I have British friends, I knew lol.
Paedophile is prounouced "peedophile" in the uk. which is because it's a greek word, and that's how it's pronounced in greek. nothing to do with an accent.
How did you not realize that you're supposed to put the pattern underneath the the thing you put the beads on?
Didn't a little girl die from eating them years ago?
fun fact: I once got grounded because my mum heard me watching this advert. she came in about 30 seconds later raging at me thinking it said "pedos" and we didn't have the luxury of rewinding the television, so I sat there for a solid minute being told off for it, the next week of my life sucked
after watching it again, it wasn't this same as but it was a beados advert 👌
I think you could become a pro beado, you're really good at that Beado action. Actually my son uses these, he has Aspurgers and it helps him calm down when he gets upset. Unfortunate name though. 😂
Let's have a moment of silence for poor Malcolm. That toy looks really unsafe for kids.Great video as always, Mike.
What a slow and tedious pain this would be for anyone.
Literally same reaction at the beginning. I was dying from there.
Wish you would have tried again with more water and letting them dry like a day or so, just to see if the concept worked, but underestimated what you'd need.
Haha "see if my snake stiffens up", well done.
I was given these back in the early 2000s before they discontinued them the first time cuz toddlers ate them and died cuz they tore their stomachs
It doesn't look like very high quality stuff, but, at the same time, you went with one of the thinnest designs it had. I guess more spraying or having the bottle closer would work better.
RIP Malcolm the baby snek. Papa bless.
awe man I miss these episodes of infomercialism.
The first minute had me in stitches genius.
I cannot believe I actually watched you play with beados.
Weren't these banned?
They had to recall these down in Australia and re-brand them because a kid swallowed one and it turned out the adhesive synthesized compounds similar to LSD when mixed with stomach acid.
AzraelsEntertainment Whoa. Good thing that they found out. And that the child is ok now.
You could make some nice patterned tiles out of that.
Then decorate your bathroom with BEADOTILES!
Did your snake stiffen up?
CEO: Okay, we need a new product that is completely stupid yet easy to sell, give me your ideas!
Manager: I've got something
CEO: Okay then, out with it!
Manager: I'm life there is one question that always plauges us. Fucking magnets, how do they work?
This looks fun! like a sticky lightbrite...without lights or brights
I swear I had those as a kid. I seem to remember them working really well and I made loads of stuff with them. I never bothered to follow the patterns though.
I've got to 1min and 2 seconds and can't stop laughing, hilarious.
Ahh I already have this and made loads of cool stuff with it
the name seems fitting considering the first released versions had a chemical mix that resembled the date rape drug. back when it was called bindeez
You killed it! In all seriousness, this seems to be too fiddly to be fun.
Who would of thought that plastic beads couldn't be held together by water alone. I know I'm in shock.
"It's a strange name for a strange product... Intoducing BEADOS!"
Dammit Mike, you misspelled Introducing.
but mike does it work with cheese?
Oh! So this is where all the bubbles from the closed bubble tea stores ended up!
The name is so much more unfortunate considering that the original version of this product, Aqua Dots, had to be pulled from store shelfs because it contained GHB: the date rape drug...
Well it's a US product and that's not how we say pedo here.
Fun at parties
That's because you can't speak English.
Well it's clearly for the UK market too, as you can see on the packaging it's spelled "Colours" and also uses the metric scale soooo you're wrong.
Dab Council Or some American suit thought “colour” was a fancy word
It's like a level of purgatory. yes, you can go to heaven but first you have to successfully use this kit to make various designs. damn....the drying time alone is 20 mins & it keeps falling apart. Damn.
RIP Malcolm.
There is another brand of this exact same thing that also uses water to glue the beads together
Brown beados lot's of them in rochdale!
A remarkable amount of engineering for such a limited result.
What better way to celebrate Rolf Harris' release!
I would just like to point out that in the US we pronounce pedo with a soft E. In fact when Mike first said it with a sharp E, my mind went straight to the scene from That 70's Show where Fez eats the Cheetos with pee on them and Kelso calls them peetos.
that sound is horrifying when you have headphones on.
Good timing for Rolf Harris and his release 😂
