HI Jeff, my beloved said "why aren't you eating your breakfast" I explained that it's impossible to put anything in your mouth when your heart is in it. When that monstrous crane lift approached Gladys, in my head I was shouting mind the paintwork as it hovered over Gladys and it was quite scary watching while she was suspended in the air waiting for the trailer. Panic over. A great day for you Jeff, you must have been so excited seeing Gladys arrive at the marina. The staff at the marina were so professional and skilled in their operation and it was brilliant to see Gladys cruising along to her spot in the marina. Gladys looks great and the red colour was a great choice. Gladys, yourself and Janet have got some great adventures ahead of you and we are looking forward to sharing some of those adventure with you in your future videos and I'm sure your subscription count will increase significantly going forward. Great video as always Jeff 👍👍👍By the way, have you made room for the Brompton and more importantly, your guitar 😀
Hi Dave! Haha - yeah that Hyster is a real monster of a thing, and its pretty scary when its got your boat dangling in thin air... but these lads know what they're doing here - I'd recommend Aqueduct to anyone who is having a boat delivered! (Great cafe too... I'm trying to resist the cooked breakfasts but it ain't easy!) Very glad you like how Gladys looks now she's in the water - I hope you'll see her for real some time in the spring, when I go down through Birmingham! Yes, I've gained a lot of subscribers since Saturday - its slowing down now but still growing. I brought the Brompton with me, but have left it in the car - no way I'm cycling in these cold windy conditions. I have found a nice spot for keeping it though. I didn't bring a guitar this time Dave - still not sure where would be best place to keep it. But I'll sort it out, have no fear... maybe I'll record something over Xmas for you! Cheers 😁
Hi Gerald! Yes, its an emotional experience, there's no denying it. Fascinating to see the lads at work - real professionals! I'm sure that you and Rachel will meet Gladys next year - maybe when I cruise down from Birmingham to Worcester! 👍
Jeff, Yeah👍👋🖐🌟Absolutely Fantastic to see Gladys arrive safety. And doesn't She look Great! All Worth waiting for. And you have taken her for a Quick drive by the Marina. I use to have the job of Maintaining the grass etc years ago. I'm So happy for you, and i hope you have Lots of exciting times on Gladys As always take care and Stay Safe out there. 🥰
Thanks John! Yes we went as far as Bunbury and back, and since then i have gone down the other direction towards Middlewich. The grassy entrance to marina is very pretty - lots of grass to cut! Thanks as always for a lovely comment!😁👍
Good morning Jeff, can't believe I've just seen Gladys on the water at last, what a lovely sight. Congratulations to you, Janet & Gladys & enjoy settling in & getting used to how everything works - invaluable recording Dave's handover as far too much to remember. Looks warm & very welcoming, you chose well with the red. Look forward to seeing the Voyages of Gladys. 🎉🥂
Morning Annie! Thanks so much for this and all of your comments! The wind wasnt too bad - I slept like a baby and stayed in bed til 900! I have the heating on now - so have no intention of going outside til this afternoon!😁
@Gladysthenarrowboat Morning Jeff, well it says a lot you slept so well & even had a lie in! Down here the weather is set to improve from tomorrow so hope it does where you are too. Once things are calmer again Happy Cruising. ☀️
Thanks - I'm glad you thought so! I was mesmerised by the whole process.. these lads are real pros - Ive watched them getting boats in and out of the water now many times since last week. Looks almost effortless but so skilled!😁
Brilliant Jeff, only found your channel last week when you came up to do your final inspection before launch week. Hope you have many happy years ahead of you on the water.
Congratulations Jeff! It's been a frustrating time for you waiting all this time with delivery dates postponed and so on. I'm sure it won't be long before you get used to Gladys and really start to enjoy the cut. Maybe see you down at Diglis at some point either on foot or on a boat!!
Hi Kevin! Thanks so much! Yes it was a long wait... I can remember chatting to you at Diglis earlier this year, and it still seemed a distant dream back then... You'll see me at Diglis I'm sure, as you say, on foot or boat!👍
Thanks Madison! Yes, luckily my first time out alone on Gladys was such a nice sunny day - and the snow still on her roof added to the picture - more of that one next week, although the sun was in my eyes on the way back!👍
Haha! Yes, she loves driving boats as much as I do - and I'd say she's a better driver too. But she doesn't enjoy working locks as much as I do - so I'm happy to divide the labour when we're both onboard! Hopefully she'll come up for next weekend🤞
Hi Jeff, what can I say! fantastic video 100% your best 👍 Really interesting seeing her arrive and be launched. Gladys looks beautiful on the water and sounds lovely, very soothing engine tone 👍 I wish Janet, Gladys and yourself many happy cruising days and look forward to seeing a bit of it too 😀
Oh Iain thats brilliant - thanks so much! I can hardly fail when Gladys looks as beautiful as she does! Yes, the diesel engines are very soothing, I agree. My big adventures wont start til the new year but there will be lots to see, have no doubt!😁
Indeed it was! I was waiting for 15 minutes at that spot and then caught sight of it through the trees... as it came round the bend into view, I was quite overcome!😁
CONGRATULATIONS!!! Gladys is a very beautiful boat, but you really don't truly see her beauty until she is on the water. I am so happy. No, I am simply elated for you right now. I can't hardly wait until you get to take us along with you on the canals. You have always been so informative about the canals, and now we can explore together. Will you be bringing the Brauston, I would imagine? Have you decided where you will place her on Gladys? Again, CONGRATULATIONS, I know it has been a long time coming.
Thanks so much Paul - lovely comment! I agree - they dont look their best out of the water. Still, it was a beautiful sight to see her on the back of a lorry at last! I have no definite plan yet, will think about it over Xmas and new year. I do want to do Llangollen on her and also go down to Worcester, but there's every chance I will want to do Braunston!👍
Hyster, now there’s a blast from the past. When I was learning to weld, we went to a Hyster factory, where they had one of the first UK based computer controlled welder. They were cold bending & welding inch thick plate steel. A perfect weld every time, with minimal cleanup and much much quicker than the best human welded could do it. That was the writing on the wall for many of us. What would be the point in becoming the best you could be, if a machine could do it better, quicker, would work for less money and do it 24hrs. a day. I’ve not welded metal in decades. Back to Gladys… yes, yes and yes!
Hi DC! I might have known you'd know the Hyster name! I dont know anything about welding Im afraid, but that crane is bloody awesome! Sounds like you approve of Gladys... one day she'll be cruising along through Gilwern😁
Congratulations on the launch. I hope your "snag list" isn't too long, as you say the colour is great but I hope it has plenty of UV protection as red is nptorious for fading and ending up a sort of geranium colour. Mine did, ok it was 20 years old when I got it but still. I hope you both have many years happy cruising on Gladys.
Thanks Peter - a fellow Welshman I assume?! I have a few little things so far, but nothing major. Yes, well, red is my favourite colour and I almost always go for red cars - you're absolutely right that it can fade in time - but to be honest, I'm already 65, so I'm not gonna start worrying about it, as I'll probably take up bowls or something in 10 years time, and boating will just be a happy memory! Thanks for the good wishes - much appreciated!😁
Congratulations indeed. Bet u never thought this day would come. Love the colour. Love the boat. I don’t like radiators so how fab is that blown air heating. Brilliant. So happy for u. Every best wish🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks Trevor! yes, it came about quite quickly in the end! The central heating is very effective... but tonight I have the stove lit, the coal is glowing, and I'm absolutely cooking in here! So no need for central heating tonight! Cheers 😁
As the song says ‘it’s been a long time a comin’ !! Red has always been my favorite color and it looks beautiful on Gladys, of course 😊😊. Quite a momentous event, the launch of a beautiful red narrowboat 🎉🎉. Best of luck to you ,Jeff ❤🎉
Looks amazing! The red is definitely the colour I would choose. I'm sure there's a lot of travels and enjoyment to come... Look forward to the travel of the country's waterways series.
I'm loking at Gladys from the marinas web cam She looks fantastic Well done! Hope your happy and had a great launch day :) Give us a wave if your on the boat lol :) Must add: she looks amazing the red against the winter colours! Aquaduct is a good choice of marina, I've been there a few times looking for a boat love the cafe they do a lovely cake and coffee :)
Ah yes the webcam! Im lucky she's so in the frame! You're right - red, with bits of white is a nice contrast against the wintry backdrop! I really like it here in Aqueduct - everyone is very friendly and helpful. Agree about the cafe - I'm a daily visitor! Kelly and the others really nice - great coffee and cooked breakfast to die for! See you around mate!😁

Hi Roy, I could have organised it myself but I went with Mark's recommendation and he did the booking - I must say Dave the lorry driver was great and I was very happy with the delivery. 👍
Yes a plastic bowl - cant afford to waste too much water so it gets well used! The single basin is just due to the room available for other items I think. I will film a boat-tour soon and you'll see how quickly the space fills up!
Ive booked into this marina (which I am very impressed with) til end of February, but then, or sooner, I will head off into the wild world. So I have a continuous cruiser licence. This time next year, I will probably be in a marina again - quite possibly this one!

Thanks Peter! Yes indeed it is! Cheers 👍
You were spot on about that red colour Jeff - absolutely beautiful sight to behold!
Thanks mate! ❤️

What a beautiful boat, you must be so excited. I have subscribed to tyou.
Hi Phil! Many thanks for subscribing! 👍😁
The red is sooooo glossy! I love it x
Thanks Liv! Yes, very glossy... but I will need to keep her well polished... so, guess what you and Jon will be doing????😁

Well, you know me well enough by now - I never pass up the opportunity of fish shop chips!😁

Did you organise your own transport for the boat , or did Jamie sort it out ? If you don't mind me asking how much did it cost ? Regards Roy
Hi Roy, I could have organised it myself but I went with Mark's recommendation and he did the booking - I must say Dave the lorry driver was great and I was very happy with the delivery. 👍
Why do most the boats have a single kitchen basin? Do you also use a plastic tub for soaking the dirty dishes in?
Yes a plastic bowl - cant afford to waste too much water so it gets well used! The single basin is just due to the room available for other items I think. I will film a boat-tour soon and you'll see how quickly the space fills up!
👍
Thanks Christine! 😁
I'm sure you mentioned it in another episode, why is the boat named Gladys?
Hi Thomas - yes, I named her after my mother!😊

Are you going to live on it?@@Gladysthenarrowboat
I like not having a scratch or pram simply because it's a ongoing continuous expense. How long is she 40?
Yes, 40 feet. She's an Aintree 'Beetle' - they also make them in shorter lengths, down to 25 feet. 👍
Bit cheeky too ask but I'm interested in changing my life. How much was Gladys? She's a beauty
Well... would you ask a stranger how much they paid for their house Louise?!! But I can understand your curiosity.😁
You can actually find the current prices for new Aintree Beetles on the company's website www.aintreeboats.co.uk/
