    The key moment about the rise of West Coast Rap was in how society began criticizing the lyrics of songs like "F the Police". And it was basically saying we support the police, long before the rise of black lives matter and the blue lives matter response. It was basically the same thing. However, the part that most people miss that is more sinister is that they had no problem after that promoting violence between the youth. No censorship or sanction against that at all and the labels and producers behind this were mostly white, such as Jerry Heller.

    And salt salt salt salt salt. Smh. Miss narrator couldn't suppress the pettiness to utter Spindarellas name. "My group." or "Me and My girl Pep."

    Wordplay and storytelling it is. I can buy it as an art form but not as music. It reminds me more of the beatnik ERA with the bongos and the *poetry"readings. Both credible but not musical.

    • @jlv3x
      @jlv3x 2 роки тому

      That was music they were creating in the beatnik era as well. A song doesn't have to have a singer on it to be categorized as music. Folk music is often times singing or speaking with an acoustic guitar as the only instrument. Or someone singing acapella with no instruments is still music.

    Already I’m a bit crunchy! You can’t nor should go past the first video making claims of Sha Rock the first female rapper!🤨 Sequence ( 3 women rapper, Angie B aka Angie Stone the R&B singer) dropped a whole rap album on Sugar Hill records!!
    Plus they have not brought up Lady B from Philadelphia. She’s in the genius book of record as the First Female to have rap on record wax!😐

    • @gtizzle7606
      @gtizzle7606 Рік тому

      So Sequence was put together in the studio, they weren't out in the parks rockin all over. Sha was doin it goin back to 76-77 before they did the wax thang. Sequence and Funky Four plus 1 put out music in the same year. Everyone knew about Sha Rock in the parks. No one knew about Sequence(being from South Carolina)until they were put together by Sylvia. Now with that being said "Rappers Reprise" was the first posse cut and a serious serious jam!!!
