      I had the Saturn first and then the PlayStation. But both were really good systems having their own positives and negatives. Cool that you got one and that you're enjoying it.

      The Saturn flop to the 2nd greatest console of all time, the PlayStation 😂😂

    In some ways that was my story too but years later I gravitated back to Sega. Now I own more Sega than anything else. The Pro Action Replay can give a whole other meaning to owning a Saturn now opening up European and Japanese game markets and my Saturn library has grown tremendously since. Recently picked up Cotton 2 (expensive), Henry Explorers, and waiting on Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo to come in the mail. The sweet thing about the Japanese market other than it being huge is its generally alot cheaper and alot of the games are in English text. Definitely worth looking into. Great video. 😊👍

      Thanks bro.. Nice to see another collector keeping these great games alive. Atari's are what I have the most. I have sixteen different Atari systems. I think I have a problem. Is there an Atari rehab center???🤣🤣🤣 Sega's are getting there, totaling 8. Thanks for sharing man👍👍👍

    Omg this is the first time in my life ever seeing actually video gameplay of Sonic and Knack the weasel in Sonic Xtreme?!? Bravo you got something that either no UA-camr on games (specifically on Sega games) has or aren't allowed to show as or just can't show, either way am glad I click on your video! Hahaha

      That's actually a fan-made demo. Both using, what i believe is called, the jo engine. You can look up alot more footage of it; it's called "sonic z-treme" i believe both were made by two different people. There's even people using the engine to remake things like metal gear solid, re2, unreal, crash bandicoot, ff7, etc. Definitely check out what the indie devs are doing with this amazing console! Dreamcast is coming together nicely now, too!

    13:30 I'm sorry but you are mistaken, like many other people. Neither the SAT nor the PSX were able to render that amount of polygons per second: 300.000 , 800.000 , whatever the number. When Hideki Sato heard about the PSX being able to render that amount of polygons per second he said it was a lie. The SEGA Model 2, a much more powerful machine, was able to render 300.000. Most likely, the SAT and PSX render around 100.000 polygons per second and that might be stretch already.

    • @RetrogamerGenX
      @RetrogamerGenX  9 місяців тому

      Honestly I wouldn't doubt it. I felt those numbers were pretty high for the time. I really need to start listing my sources for information, but I believe in this video I got most of my information off Sega retro which seems to be pretty reputable. But I would tend to agree with you that 7 to 800,000 polygons per second seems a bit much for the early to mid-90s. Thanks for the tidbit information and watching.

    It's funny that you mention driving games drove you to the PSX. At the time, I worked in the suburbs of my city and had to take one of the worst roads ever designed that was also under construction at the time. Depending on random entirely unpredictable conditions, what was on the weekends a 15-25 minute drive was a 1:45 minute or more (2 plus hours occasionally) ordeal of stop and go traffic. There was nothing I hated more than driving at the time. You couldn't pay me to play a racing game. That commute killed me. I loved the job, but I quit because I just couldn't take it.

      @RetrogamerGenX  Рік тому +1

      Believe it or not man, as much as I love driving games/Sims. I hate driving in real life too.. I live out in the country man, so I have a hell of a commute everyday. Argh. People can't drive.. 🤣🤣🤣

    • @tarstarkusz
      @tarstarkusz Рік тому +1

      @@RetrogamerGenX Long drives don't really bother me, it's the sitting in traffic part. One minute you're doing 50, then someone stops for no damned reason and the whole highway comes to a stop.

    The move to 3d gaming was arguably the worst trend in video games that ever happened. Every single 3d game of the era is horribly ugly. There is not a single exception that I know of. This was also the beginning of the time where it now takes 10 minutes of screwing around in selection screens, waiting for loading, advertisements etc before you can even play the game.
    IMHO, the move to nearly exclusive 3d games happened long before it should have. We went from fairly well animated 2d sprite game with either 64 or 256 colors depending on which system you had to a big ugly muddy mess. Tomb Raider is the perfect example. None of the hardware available in the mid 90s could do 3d justice. It was all so ugly. Even the arcade machines had ugly graphics. Most of them don't control well either. Just compare how the 2d 32b era games look in comparison to the 3d. Put the beautiful hand drawn sprite and pixel artwork of a game like Rayman and compare it to Duke Nukem 3d or god forbid, Quake.
    The hardware was "good enough" for racing games. But that's about it. There were a few games that if you ignored the limitations of the artwork could be enjoyable, but that's about it. To me, the whole 32b era is a time best forgotten.

    • @RetrogamerGenX
      @RetrogamerGenX  Рік тому

      I would agree to disagree with you on this.. lol...
      True this was a very "ugly" time in 3d gaming, the load times sucked, and some games were buggy. No doubt about that.
      But... This Gen did have some of the best looking 2d games. Sure 3d rendering and textures were plain awful. Not to mention draw distance. But 3d games had to start somewhere.
      For instance, look at when sprite/bitmap/character map games, first came out. Pong clones everywhere, and then systems like the Channel F and VCS's "4bit" graphics. Compare that to say, the Genesis, and you see what i mean. 2d games had a ugly time too. 🤣🤣🤣

    • @RetrogamerGenX
      @RetrogamerGenX  Рік тому

      And... lol.. That's the phase that VR games are in now. The "ugly Phase". But wait a few more years man, it will be fully immersive.

      There were plenty of great looking games Tekken 3, Ape Escape, Mario 64. As Retrogamer said, 3D had to start somewhere. There were plenty of ugly 2d games when video games were first created.
      You seem to be forgetting this same hardware you're crapping on allowed for games like Rayman and arcade accurate 2D games.
