      The system of white supremacy.... will always be anti black .... so what are you going to do?
      Black folks shouldn’t have to work twice as hard.

    • @ashanti5132

      I understand that. It’s just a powerful statement IMO because although that is true, it’s still sad. (Like many points made in the movie) Being a decent person and working a regular job is seen as insufficient. That is sad. We have a tendency to equate excellence with occupying predominantly white spaces.

      @@ashanti5132 While I get what you are saying I rarely see the average black person strive for excellence outside of my African friends and their family. The difference between where most of them are compared to most black folks I see in my area has led me to believe black folks NEED to strive for excellence more. Mediocre to being complete losers. They are okay working bs jobs (which they stay complaining about but NEVER do anything to get better jobs), they don't even do what average white folks do to fit in then wonder why they are the least liked and have a target on their back. IMO we need to actually do more and stop crying all the damn time about why we are held to such a high standard when most barely meet basic standards. We should all strive for excellence. Most of the movies we make are basic, boring, recycled plots with little to no imagination.

She also said it ended that way because that was their “wedding ” what they said were their vows and ‘I dos’ and then Slim carried Queen over the threshold. She also said the ending was a tribute to the black mothers of the BLM movement because their children never made it home. BUT STILL, I WAS IN DENIAL! “

    (Sidebar: Till this day I still haven't finished watching 12 years a slave.)
    We already know we struggle. If you want a struggle narrative there are a lot of stories to choose from throughout history which deserve to be told. I would prefer that being done than this. I want more movies about black people which challenge the struggle narrative. I want movies that uplift, empower, and inspire us. Not this. This movie will do nothing to improve Black peoples situation. Nothing at all.

If AA want to tell their stories, perhaps we need more AA directors and producers to bring those stories to the forefront. Its not like black immigrants are the majority of black actors in hollywood. I think if you haven't watched the movie, you wouldn't understand how they both rode for each other... I mean he shot the cop after the cop shot her. It wasn't one sided. And I feel like in a lot of ways, she was the dominant one: she was the one who advised against turning themselves in, she's the one who made sure they couldn't be traced. It wasn't like she was just going along with it in order to be loved by him; it was a flight or fight instinct. It wasn't until they were on the run that they fell for each other; but if *she* said there wouldn't have been a second date had things not went the way they did. So it's not like she would've gotten the short end of the stick by not going with him. I get not wanting to support the movie. I didn't know about the controversy until after I watched the movie. But I don't think you can accurately know the narrative of what you haven't seen. Even if you're going off of others' reviews, they're recalling the movie from their own POV and with their own biases.

    What made me mad was she was too hot headed to be a lawyer from the beginning, she could have easily talked the cop outta letting them go without shooting... by using law codes on him. But she didnt... which is why im confused on the writing. Why did they write the charaters to be this way?

      Dannie Brazile THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!! Finally!!! I’m a paralegal and I thought in my head, why didn’t she cite the regulations? You can tell that Lena Waite isn’t an attorney. They should’ve changed Queen’s occupation because I know plenty of black attorneys who wouldn’t act the way Queen did when they were falsely pulled over by cops.

    I love this because they switched the narrative to the question of “What would happen if a black person killed a cop?” And I feel like it had to be realistic, especially with the end. As much as it wouldve been cute to watch them get away, their death was so symbolic to their love

    My heart was broken at the end 😥 I thought they were going to get caught but further in the movie I had hope!! When she asked “can I be your legacy?” The tears were just forming in my eyes. It was a love story too me. By the end they were definitely in love. The moments they have and feelings in my opinion most do not feel or just live like that in their lifetime!! So to me it was beautiful but just a sad ending. Every love story doesn’t have this great ending but at the same time they wouldn’t had got too see each other or hear from each other if they survived and went to jail. Him carrying her was the part that just took me 😥 I loved this movie!!

    I don't know why yall mad when what happens in real black reality is put on the big screen? Lol oh it's struggle love oh we see enough of that oh we this we that but sis this is your reality! If we want to be portrayed better, WE GOTTA DO BETTER! Period. Maybe that's motivation to become a director or producer yourself maybe you can get on board with the Tyler Perry movement and open a black owned studio maybe that will motivate you to open more black business! Anything other than our reality is a mf fairytale. You wanna see us be better on screen, let's do better in real life. Idk what yall mad for what do you wanna see Brandy and the Asian kid playing Cinderella? Foh. The movie was great! Only thing I didn't like was why the fuck yall running you're a lawyer you should know better they could've made her an activist or something cuz that was not a lawyer move. Other than that I enjoyed it. Favorite part: I want someone who I can feel comfortable with them seeing the ugliest parts of me and they can still love me anyway. They will hold me while I heal and not be afraid to kiss my scars afterwards. That's not struggle love that's UNCONDITIONAL love. Can't please nobody sheesh. 😒

    Eloho:
    First of all She's gorgeous woman so as he.
    I also heard the ad for casting, the ad was saying they wanted a "field slave dark skin girl"
    I thought that was completely degrading and very unnecessary to any dark skin man or woman. I want to understand why gay black men and women and also black people who are in the interracial relationship think they can walk all over our black history, black race and our humanity. Then come up with their ignorance, specially when they have a social spot like that.
    They need to understand how to choose their words carefully, because they have many young people who are ready to listen and learn copy and live by their words.
    Very very very disappointed about that lady for taking the story from white person and didn't even change it to what is happening now, like killing black men and women everyday.Yes, the story line of being murdered while eating Ice-cream at home, watching tv, or driving, would have more shock value, more realistic than the bullshit of black man murdering cops.
    Now if she actually used it to make how a black man is shot dead (which is most frequent in America) instead and twisted the roles as it is in reality, I would have watched it.
    Her loss.
    I also forgto this movie is a slap on the face of black woman. Like they are telling us, no matter how we are educated, or intellectual we are, we still don't have common sense.
    Yes, I'm taking this seriously because I am black, and most people take hollywood as their school, and I care, and I see this devaluation of black race by every non black race group of people everyday.
    We have to stop watching and funding this sort of bullshit if we want the stereotypes and racism toward our people to stop. It starts with us. There for: I won't support this mediocracy.

  • @edouble30083
    @edouble30083 4 роки тому +2

    The movie was entertainment minus any logic. It was like a cross between Set It Off, and Thelma and Louise. The common theme I got from this film was black men ain’t shit. The reviewer forgot to mention the interaction between the father and his son, where the father refers to his son as a bitch. Then there was the uncle who was a veteran and a pimp. The only time a black man was the hero was when the back cop let them escape, and even in that, the reason why he let them escape was because the older white cop belittled him. Any other time he would’ve stopped them. But let’s not forget the fact that Queen escalated this whole situation. Even after Slim shit the cop, she wanted to run. How does a lawyer make logic out running from an aggravated assault from a racist cop, who likely had on some recording device, recording the whole incident? Then there was the little boy shooting the good Black cop. Of course then there was the thug at the end who sold them out. I could go on and on but I’m sure if you saw the film, you get the picture. This could’ve been a cinematic masterpiece, but fall short like a mf

      Do you think they would have been cleared of any wrongdoing??
      The mechanic told them: 'You should have paid the ticket' when they weren't given one, so what would an all white jury see? Would they be acquitted or condemned?
      Then the female cop shot Queen even though her superior didn't give her orders to do so and Queen didn't give her any sign or reason to fire.

    • @justdej
      @justdej 4 роки тому +4

      @@wonderingmind8547 those are good points! I feel like most of the issue lies with them running away. We don't know if the ticket scenario was widespread or just a belief of the of the mechanic. We, also, don't know that the whole jury would be white. I feel like by Queen being a lawyer there were ways they could've avoided being fugitives. Then again, the "on the run" plot is much more entertaining to watch.

    • @wonderingmind8547
      @wonderingmind8547 4 роки тому +2

      @@justdej I agree that being on the run wasn't the best route, but fear is a hell of a motivator. The bit about the ticket is a very common phrase with PD supporters. I've seen them say things like: 'Why did you run?'
      'Why did you talk back??' Etc.
      People sometimes put the wrong pieces of a puzzle together by placing their ideals and opinions then stubbornly ignore the facts, like the footage showing that it was self defense. I also can't predict the jury and what decision they make, but history dictates leniency for the officers. But I am of the belief that Queen could have won that case if they did turn themselves in. Thanks for the chat, sis!!💖

    I definitely agree with you that it’s not like Bonnie and Clyde but they were criminals. They became criminals as soon as the ran away instead of turning themselves in. Then they kidnapped someone and put them in a trunk so they were criminals but not the same as Bonnie and Clyde who were outlaws robbing banks. They were criminals because of their circumstances. Such a sad movie.
