I just love this song. Her voice..... it's for Real. I wanna be back in the 80s again. I miss it so much. Teena Marie, what an amazing woman. Her death is so crazy and tragic.
I was entirely too young to be listening to Lovergirl growing up, but it was my favorite song at the time! Every time we went somewhere with a jukebox I would play this song!!! Literally, I was probably 9 or 10 years old rocking Teena Marie!!! 😄😄😇😇
Teena Marie was blessed with an incredible voice, but unfortunately she came along during a time of intense competition between strong female vocalists. After just a few years in the spotlight, Whitney Houston and others became the focus. But I was, and will always be a fan of Teena's unique voice and style.
The late Teena Marie! Love her music. Definitely check out "Out On A Limb" from the same album as "Lovergirl" called Starchild. It's one of the best slow jams of all time
You NEED to do more Aunt Teena, ya hear me? Start with Square Biz. When you hear that one, you definitely gonna recognize it. That's a black cookout staple...
This has got to be the best review I’ve ever seen in my life lol👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾my favorite female soul artist and the funniest reviewer Iever. He-so-Kray-Zee lol!!!!!!!
I love her voice and total style. She actually brought ethnicities- races, what have you, together without even trying. Her amazing voice, lyrics, funk , soul, artistry and guitar playing, omg so natural and total energy still is timeless.. She should be totally recognized as a hall of famer. ( not sure if she was) and its sad she has left us. The great ones do.
Saw her live once 💥 She could put on a show and leave it all on stage. One my favorite all time artist that was my age. What a talented musician, writer, producer, soul vocalist and her beauty and sense of style was off the charts. RIP Ivory Queen of Soul💜
She has also got a really beautiful daughter in her twenties I think..... Aaliya Rose...... who also sings. Teena died a few years back of some sort of grande mal seizure. She’s MISSED.
"My opening line might be a bit passe but don't think that I don't know what I'm feeling for you cuz I got a vibe the first time that I saw you." Big hit when I was in high school.
Teena Marie Marie songs to react to: I Need Your Lovin, Behind The Groove, Dear Lover, Square Biz, Portuguese Love, Fire and Desire with Rick James! Her nicknames were Vanilla Child and Lady T!
one of her nicknames was vanilla chi. she was one of the best female singers ever. alot of people were shocked to find out she was a white woman who can sing like that! check out her video with Rick James fire and desire! they were best friends and lovers.
She said Coffee, tea or me baby, touche ole My opening line might be a bit passe But don't think that I don't know what I'm feeling for you cause I got a vibe the first time that I saw you, saw you, I need your Love and I wont bring no pain.....you know the rest lol dude I jam to some Lady Tee! Do Square Biz too thats a good one too
Billy - the concert she did at #sinbad Caribbean music festival and the live band you can hear it more there. Stephanie Mills was on that concert too - its on yt still I think. That video was crazy
Teena was so "underground" becuz she was a white girl who didn't sound like it. This was her 1st hit in the main stream, probably becuz it was more like rock. What a great voice tho!
Great reaction!!!!! Good interviews of Teena on UA-cam. I always got her and Sheila E. mixed up. I remember when Teena died. Thankfully UA-cam straightened me out. Teena was in Motown. A lot of people didn't realize she's white. It seemed like Teena and Rick James were soulmates. Love hate relationship, lol.
I don't see how you ever got them mixed up! Tina had a voice! Guitar performance. I definitely get Prince vibes. Tina and Prince would've tore that stage up together! Would've love to have seen that happen.
You would think that she would be A plus cuz of her talent writing, producing and all her music but at this time recording companies were not interested in that. However, Lovergirl did hit at almost #1 on the pop charts. Teena was typically only played on R&B outlets. I remember our R&B station in Boston did not play Lovergirl because it sounded to pop/rock. Sad since her one hit wonder and her legacy audience didnt match.
This music is why I don't like anything on the radio now. It all sounds the same and has autotune because its more about acting like a stripper on a pole than having actual talent. Lady T didn't have autotune and she produced her own music. She left us too soon. She and Prince were phenomenal talents. I still have my original 'It Must Be Magic' on vinyl that I played in my bedroom at 15!
I was born in the late 70's remember a good deal of the 80's music and movies. I do not remember her. First time hearing her. As for the question are there females that just want to be lover girls yes. Me it depends on the man. Some men it's just hard to say no to even when you know there isn't a chance of a relationship with them. I think you probably know why.
This is from the OLD days....when a female performer could be SEXY.and keep her clothes on and relied on her talent ......that''s why we don't have music like this ANY MORE. Too many HOOCHIE MOMMA out there now.
My sister loved Teena Marie soo much, she named her daughter Teena Marie.
thats talent!..she sings, dances and plays instrurments!
1984 working 12 hr for 3.35 hr with songs like this rocking over the radio! No time and half either.
It was cool to making your own pay in the 80s. Starting from your first super market job. Needed a work permit at 15 in NYC.
I just love this song. Her voice..... it's for Real. I wanna be back in the 80s again. I miss it so much. Teena Marie, what an amazing woman. Her death is so crazy and tragic.
Greedy demonic music execs after they got all the money then think shes worth more not alive

I danced and danced and danced to this song in the 80s at the clubs. Great times ❤️
You NEED to do more Aunt Teena, ya hear me? Start with Square Biz. When you hear that one, you definitely gonna recognize it. That's a black cookout staple...

She and Rick James had a off and on relationship until the last time they sang together before he died.
Teena was so amazing!!! She has such a unique voice as well ! Love Lady T forever!!!
I love her voice and total style. She actually brought ethnicities- races, what have you, together without even trying. one of her nicknames was vanilla chi. she was one of the best female singers ever. alot of people were shocked to find out she was a white woman who can sing like that! check out her video with Rick James fire and desire! they were best friends and lovers.
