      its not really. pundits and talk show hosts treat it like it is. 80 of the public are in favor of it. pretty sure that means both sides want it. the republicans who wanted it overturned are being bribed, and talk show hosts like ben trust them a little too much sometimes. Although, ben is usually really good at calling his side on this shit. Sad to see him wrong on this one.

      Because it's a question of how much governmental regulation is necessary, which typically the left is in favor of more and the right is in favor of less.

      And Ben Shapiro is clearly clever and smart when it comes to politics and laws. But he doesn't know how technology works or the actual implications of the removal of Net Neutrality.
      Republicans saw "Oh, Barrack Obama is in favor of Net Neutrality. We must destroy it then."
      Net Neutrality was always there prior to 2015. But in 2014, the ISP companies wanted to be greedy and force websites to pay an extra fee on them for people to access their website.
      Except that's not how the internet works.
      Without Net Neutrality. Then ISP who are supposed to give you the constant speed and data that to you paid for. Now they'll be able to slow down the speed to dial up status extremely slow so that you don't get to access these websites anymore.
      Then they'll charge big companies money for the privilege to access your website.
      So if say the Daily Wire wants to maintain their viewers, the ISP will ask you a fee so that people can see your website despite the fact that people are already paying for the service which is ridiculous.
      So if Daily Wire wants to maintain it's business model and have subscribers, part of that money will have to go to Comcast, forcing you to charge more to your viewers.
      Net Neutrality prevents Road Blocks but now the internet will be censored more than ever and little guy like Daily Wire will suffer from this.

    Worker at comcast told me they had a meeting discussing this. He said his upper management said one of the things included in the repeal is that the ISPs can look at what you look up without a court order, so every link you visit is not private anymore.
    That is what he told me, do with it as you like.

      @@yangziouhci7014 News media was a textbook example of market failure in our time. It is more profitable to lie for the rich, so that's what they did. Deregulation made it worse because companies in unrelated sectors can own media houses.
      Viewers making informed decisions on who funds the media they consume is like expecting the average person to understand the fine print legalese used in apps to get permission to steal your data
      So making it so that all web domains have to be carried make it possible for smaller websites to compete with the Netflixes and Googles.
      Not to mention, not having net neutrality makes it extremely easy for bigger companies to block competition by simply paying ISPs to not carry them.

    An ISP slowed down speeds for Netflix users a few years back. Then charged Netflix a ton of money for their users to be able to use the site at a regular speed again.

    • @BillyCarlyleYoutube
      @BillyCarlyleYoutube 6 років тому +1

      This is a good thing considering the amount of resources Netflix uses up in comparison to most other web services. Netflix cost ISPs a fortune so it's only fair that they pay for that

    • @TheBlueJamie
      @TheBlueJamie 6 років тому

      If ISP's can't handle that sort of bandwidth, that's their fault, not Netflix's fault, nor the Netflix consumer's fault.
      A consumer should not pay for a service that can be throttled at any time for using certain websites. If someone pays for 100mb down speeds, and unlimited download size, they should get that.

    • @BillyCarlyleYoutube
      @BillyCarlyleYoutube 6 років тому

      I agree with the last thing you said, the consumer should get the service they pay for, but if Netflix causes heavy strain on the network then that prevents the ISP from providing this service, so I think it's perfectly reasonable for the ISP to charge Netflix.
      And it is the fault of Netflix since it's a poorly engineered service, there are much more efficient ways in which they could serve their media to avoid these issues.
      Maybe I'm slightly biased since I would never support a streaming service such as Netflix or Spotify but I don't think what I'm saying is unreasonable

    • @TheBlueJamie
      @TheBlueJamie 6 років тому

      Billy Carlyle even if they were more efficient it wouldn't matter, they are a service that provides up to 4k streaming, of long movies and entire TV series, it's always going to take A LOT of bandwidth. And it's also almost ubiquitous among Internet users, most households have Netflix. ISP's need to cater to demand, it doesn't matter how Netflix engineered their system, if no one used it, they wouldn't use a lot of bandwidth.

      you need customer protection, fast lanes are going to be abused by large ISPs and most people in US have very small selection of ISPs anyway. As an economist I can say this is 100% going to be against consumer. Imagine you have 2 options : comcast and verizon. They both increase prices on your favourite sites and charge extra. You like this? If net neutrality exists they cannot do this, there is a law that protects us, consumers from getting exploited from such profit opportunities. If you are for non-regulated internet = you are against every single user on internet and small-medium corporations and their websites. Ben is totally wrong since repealing net neutrality does not benefit ANYONE but large few corporations from making more money. This is not about reporting "freedom", this is turning on Anarchy valve.

    Actually Ben, you are right about one thing.. you don't know about net neutrality. No one does care about grandma's crochet website, until that website starts to grow and it's starts to pop up on the ISPs radar, so they decide to pressure them to pay to use their lines, but they can't and the establish crochet website can. What then. So the point is not to paint issues as liberal or conservative but as just issues. Anybody who doesn't financially gain from this will only financially lose and lose big. Do a little more research before you just attack something just because a liberal likes it.

    Ben I agree on most things you discuss but honestly you don’t understand what net neutrality is, when it was created, what happened in 2015? Obama didn’t create net neutrality, he only reclassified it, net neutrality is basically the telecommunications act of 1996 where the internet provider can only provide the internet and the speed, you can choose which ever speed you like and pay for that, if you don’t want to pay for a 50mgb speed , you don’t have to, you can get a 5mgb plan and pay less. But I shouldn’t have to worry about what websites I can or can’t use based on the internet provider. Ben I’m a fan but you need to do more research on this.

      I notice conservatives/libertarians agree with the left in support of net neutrality because if you UNDERSTAND it you'd know when you pay MORE for speed and the site pays MORE for servers you should get what u pay for which is what net neturality ACTUALLY PROTECTS!
      Net neutrality (ACTUALLY started) around 1996 and has helped fight the small number of large companies who have monopolies in many areas, like say many right wing rural areas, who try to take your $ and throttle out right wing sources (or any source) they dislike or are competing with. Enjoy censorship, or, as usual, think beyond left vs. right…There's a thing called karma and Dharma that God let dominate long before the left vs. right. I’ve details sources on that, & on other stuff I just said.

      Beside ur example being a blatant strawman argument: To a certain extend we do have that. There are price regulations all over the food industry, which no surprise the industry wants to have erased.
      Also it's called "Internet SERVICE provider" for a reaseon: Their job is to provide the transfer of the data, as a service. The issue is that those are also owning content companies. That's where the capitalist oligarchy causes issues due to conflicting interests.
      If you want a comparison: Think of car lanes on the highway: Pay a 100$ per month and you can use the special fast lane. But you also need to buy cars from special dealers and have them maintained in certified carshops. Why? Because we gotta keep our shareholders happy, so fuck you consumer.

      Charaykee Shilla you don't know how this works. OMG. The ISP already charges the customer for whatever they want. Sheesh. Your just repeating what Ben says. Net nuetrality says that the ISP cannot speed up UA-cam and slow down Vimeo. It cannot block Netflix and charge you extra for access. The ISP does not create anything on the web. They only give you access to this web. They already charge you on how much of the web you use and how fast you go. Now with net nuetrality gone they can also charge you based on what you see! Going back to the water company scenario. Do you believe that the water company should charge you more to wash your car than to wash your body? I would hope not. Water is water and you get charged by the gallon. If the water charged you a dollar per gallon for car washing and 10c a gallon for showers would you be ok with that???

    • @cellsec7703
      @cellsec7703 6 років тому +1

      Exactly. It is only an issue because ISPs do have a monopoly. And while they do, the threat is potentially as bad as what the hysterical people are saying. We have given those corporations with a monopoly, the freedom to extort everyone. They might not go all the way, but they might, and even if they don't, there is no value that can be added by slowing down speeds. So basically we are allowing things to get worse, either a bit worse, or total dystopia worse. In exchange, there is no theoretical gain for society of the consumer.

      Charaykee Shilla Yes it limits them from manipulating information and favoring certain websites over others. How is this wrong? If a certain ISP wanted to shut down Ben Shapiro all they have to do is block all his internet content and if that is your ISP you have absolutely no choice to go somewhere else. Most of america is in an ISP monopoly. Do you think its ok if an ISP completely blocks ben just because they dont like his political beliefs? Its bad enough that UA-cam and Facebook tries to censor right wing politics. Do you want ISP's to do that too?

    • @cellsec7703
      @cellsec7703 6 років тому

      Net neutrality limits ISP's ability to charge different fees and tier services. In most industries, we want companies to have the freedom to do this, in the case of the internet, a select few ISPs have a monopoly, and the internet is such an essential utility, to give these ISP's full power to do anything, while there is no healthy competition, is terrible. Net neutrality is just a band aid, on top of a mess of politics and law. In a bubble, it might not make sense, but in the world we live in, its the only solution we have right now, and taking it away makes no sense.

    I'm confused and have questions.
    If all data has to be provided at the same speed under 'net neutrality' doesn't that hurt small ISPs who may not capable of providing, say, video content at the same speed as email?
    In the areas where there is currently only one or a couple of ISPs, wouldn't word spread pretty quickly if they were to start inhibiting people's ability to access certain content? And if so, wouldn't the risk of bad publicity and potentially boycotts in other more competitive areas in which they may operate prevent them from engaging in such anti-competitive practices?
    Isn't it better for consumers to have the choice of fine-tuning which services they would like if they can get a cheaper deal?
    Wouldn't it still be in the interest of ISPs to offer customers the option of an internet service under net neutrality conditions?
    Is it not a good thing that customers have the option to not pay for access to Twitter, UA-cam, Netflix, if they wish, and instead opt for less well-known alternatives for which ISPs would presumably charge less? Wouldn't this also increase competition?

    People are not going to notice that big of changes with this, they just like things to be over dramatic about. I’ve also noticed that this isn’t a right vs left issues, it’s a capitalist vs socialist issue. The left just tend to highly pick and choose where they want the government to intervene.

    • @Fearless3773
      @Fearless3773 6 років тому

      guillaume958 again... capitalism over socialism. Even though I too may get screwed in this situation, government should have no goddam say in how people run their businesses. This literally allows the internet to be treated like television. Not to mention the fact that a lot of lower ISPs got put out of business because they could not keep up with the standards set by net neutrality. This has opened up a competitive market and it’s going to be the ISPs underbidding each other for customers now. Some people might even get cheaper internet. You do not know. So again, don’t bitch about it, until the negative thing happens.

    • @guillaume958
      @guillaume958 6 років тому

      No, wanting reasonable restrictions to be put on powerful corporations to stop them from abusing their power doesn't equate to socialism.
      "the fact that a lot of lower ISPs got put out of business because they could not keep up with the standards set by net neutrality. "
      This is wrong and delusional considering the context. You really think that big ISPs like Comcast seek to help competition? Net Neutrality changes nothing in terms of the start up price of setting up an ISP company. It doesn't change the cost of operating that particular business either.
      Whether that 1 GB of data came from Netflix or your basement, it costs the same amount of money from that company to send it from sender to receiver. By opposing Net Neutrality, you are giving them the power to artificially discriminate and slow down the data from selected websites. Or charge you more for Data from selected websites. For example, Comcast might decide to charge you 200% more for data that comes from X websites. Or they might sign a deal with Hulu and decide to slow down Netflix for their customers.
      There is absolutely no upside to this. Anything you might've heard about it reducing investments, deterring competition or any other bullshit made up by literal shills Is just that, Bullshit that's been debunked a million times over.
      You are drinking the Kool-aid my friend.

    • @Fearless3773
      @Fearless3773 6 років тому

      guillaume958 guillaume958 1. The government still has regulations in place. For example, the ISPs legally have to tell us what they are doing. These are in place to assure that the choice of the consumer is the only thing that can screw them over. In that case, it’s time to be more informed instead of being as retarded as most consumers are nowadays. 2. Wanting the government to have control over major things like what companies sell, and how they sell it is the exact opposite of capitalism, and more on par with socialistic ideals. You gonna tell Mcdonalds they have to sell the McRib year round? You gonna force target to price match with Walmart? No, because you don’t care that much about that topic. There are things like medication that cost less than $1 to fill a bottle, which companies sell for over $100. None of you bitch about that. Why? Again, cuz you don’t care about that. 3. The internet was fine before 2015 and will be fine long after. 4. “ISPs could do this.” Sure they could, but they won’t make any life altering decisions that you all are acting like will happen. These businesses won’t succeed if they do things that will utterly frustrate their customers. I’ll come back here in a year to show you that. 5. No they don’t want competition, they want more control of their company. Competition is what happens when that control is given. They will be underbidding each other like the phone companies and cable companies do now. Nobody is “drinking kool-aid” we just aren’t doomsday prepping when there is no sign of doomsday. Let’s say for instance, everything you mentioned will happen for sure, if that’s the most you have to worry about, what a simple life you must have.... again though, let’s see who gets to tell who “I told ya so” in a few months.

    • @guillaume958
      @guillaume958 6 років тому

      1. That's irrelevant to the subject and I'm pretty sure they don't have to. There's been multiple cases where ISPs have done some behind the scenes fuckery that was exposed later on. You can easily find these cases with a few google searches.
      2. Putting restriction on ISPs does not equal giving the government control of the internet. It is not socialism since ISPs are still privately run companies operating in a capitalist system. Your comparisons are also shit by the way. Net Neutrality is in no way comparable to the fucking McRib or any other type of food. I also don't care about your statement on medication cost because I'm not american so I don't deal with your shit medical system.
      3. Net neutrality has been around since 1996. What Obama did in 2015 was change it from title one to title two. This was done to make Net Neutrality more enforceable because companies were constantly violating the law.
      4. This is where I show you how shit your McRib comparison is. Compare the cost of making and selling sandwiches versus the cost of setting up your own ISP. ISPs especially in the US are giant oligopolies who already fuck over their customers all the time with their Cable. Comcast was already a meme long before this whole fiasco started but nobody can do jack shit because the market is very limited. A lot of Americans find themselves with very few options or in some cases no options at all.
      5. Don't be so naive. If Net Neutrality is to fall then companies will take their time. They know this is a hot issue. They might even do some fun stuff for their customers for some PR but you'll come to realize what a mistake this was when these giant now unstoppable corporations are given the power to slow down their competitors, block websites they don't like, bully websites into paying them for standard internet speed thus killing most up-and-coming websites in their cribs, charge you extra for data that come from websites that aren't part of their special package.
      They won't do it immediately or even openly. Could even be a few years down the road but these fucks didn't push this hard for nothing. Torrenting and known Streaming sites will probably be the first to go down. Then you can expect some small internet packaging changes that will add up over time and so on and so on.

    • @Fearless3773
      @Fearless3773 6 років тому +1

      guillaume958 the McRib could be a car or a plane even. And the fact that you say we have a “shit medical system” proves you agree with things being socialized. Which is fine, but be consistent at least. Regardless, Internet is not a right or a necessity. It is a service and a convenience that we as humans rely very heavily on. That’s the only reason this is an issue. There is this bullshit irrational fear that it is all over and it simply is not. If cable type packages and slower speeds on certain sites is the worst you have to worry about, your life is a fucking cake walk. Either way, we don’t know what will happen, so might as well wait and see at this point, before being upset when nothing is wrong yet.

    The problem is in the far majority of the USA, there is really only one option for internet. Net neutrality means that a monopoly like ComCast can't slow your internet connection speed whenever you connect to a website that isn't owned by or partnered with ComCast in some way. And yes, ComCast was doing this already before the current net neutrality laws took effect. It's not about the end of the internet, it's about the end of real freedom of speech and equal opportunity on the internet. Two issues which every conservative should want to protect, not oppose. Internet is information. And information is as important as water and electricity. These other things have appropriately strict regulations, information should have the same.

      Ricardo Vazquez I’m aware of what he said, but that does not excuse the fact that he has misinformation, implying that he either failed to do research or his research was heavily biased in favor of the FCC. Either way, he failed to produce accurate news and, as such, deserves ridicule. When CNN and Fox produce false news, it is almost always called out. The Daily Wire should be no different.

I normally follow Ben and like this views but i couldn't disagree more here. Its disappointing because a lot of people take his word for it and dont question the views for Themselves so they blindly follow his premise which is completely misunderstood. The problem with the end of net neutrality is the isp can now charge more simply because we will accept this as a reality. Communications infrastructure is less difficult to produce than are profits. One could say we have reached a point where it is not profitabke to produce it. Remove Title II and expand the market as necessary. We end up ruining everything anyhow.

It's not like my quality of internet went up when net neutrality passed. I honestly never would've even knew it passed except for hearing other people talk about it. And from what I understand now, instead of the internet being regulated by the FCC, it is going to be regulated by the FTC. I don't know what that means, but I also don't see an end to the internet as we know it today.

  • @jajsamurai

    Net Neutrality could only be put in place by regulating the internet AS A UTILITY. If the internet is a utility then the FCC has the power to grant a total monopoly to any company they want to. This is why it needed to be repealed. It had nothing to do with the net neutrality regulations themselves, because no one really objected to those. The objection had to do with the potential collateral damage. By the way, if you think the FCC would not grant a monopoly to some company like comcast eventually if they have the power to do so then you haven't paid attention to reality. the FCC has already done this with other utilities. They would obviously do it again if they have the power.
