I can’t recommend it enough it’s a phenomenal piece of storytelling and one of the rawest explorations of humanity, both the individual and the collective, I’ve ever seen put to page.
Hey! Amazing video. I only discovered your channel recently and now I wish I could have started with this one. I agree about historical fiction; it can be absolutely amazing but it can be really problematic as well. I haven't seen Vinland Saga specifically for this reason but now I think I'll check it out. Thanks!
I highly recommend it. It's far from historically accurate, but pulls just enough to keep history nerds like myself interested. Beyond that, it's just a brilliant story with some great themes. Thanks for the comment!
so, as per usual, i haven't read nor watched Vinland Saga (go figure). however, it has always been rather fascinating to see how much we repeat through history. conflating religion with politics. setting up webs of networks for transactional use. in the case of the west, claiming land itself for ownership. it's the same stories, the same ideologies, on a spinning wheel. it's so interesting to see how far back such strategies, beliefs, and leaders go. i have never really heard of The North Sea Empire. then again, i have never really put much thought into history. but it's content like this that reminds me to look back, as it's the only way to look forward. thanks for sharing this piece of history. sincerely, that anonymous uni student from canada
The North Sea empire is pretty niche history even here in England tbh. Also holy shit you made it through the entire backlog of videos, just in time for a new one to drop lol
Thank you! This one was my favourite to make actually, as I went out and did research entirely fresh for it, instead of just refreshing my memory on stuff I already had ideas on.
Apparently I don't know a lot about my own country's history (except for Harald Blue tooth everybody knows about that guy) so I kept thinking "Canute really doesn't sound like a danish name..." but its Knud right??? That took way too long for me to figure out😅
I just watched your sh2 video and this one and I think I got some new perspective out of both. Which I rarely have on UA-cam essays. Keep the good work up 🫶
Crazy that people will watch something like your Until Dawn video and won’t go back to watch this masterpiece
Everything I hear about Vinland Saga is encouraging me to watch Vinland Saga

As with all medieval history Canute can also be spelled a bunch of ways, Cnut, Knut, Knutr, Knud. So yeah likely same guy!
@@RatatTalksin our textbooks it was ‘Cnut’ which always got a giggle out of the class
