Dont forget to tell everyone to delete the keyboard command line i had lots of trouble before finding out that was the problem getting games to start after being added to launchbox. Not sure if everyone has this problem but it seemed to be the only thing to fix it. you need to edit the emulator after adding it goto TOOLS/Manage emulators then delete the keyboard command line for the Mame emulator and your games should start to work inside of Launchbox PS. Thanks for the great tutorials Keep up the great work RESPECT!
As I wait for my system go grab files from the web, I wanted to thank you yet again ETA Prime, for taking the time to make these videos and help us all get the most enjoyment from our collections on as much hardware as possible. If I ever have the pleasure of meeting you, I'd be happy to buy you a beverage. In the meantime a Patreon membership might be in order... Edit. Done and done.
You explain things better and clearer than anyone else online bud...Excellent videos ETA. Keep em coming. Can you make a video adding Pinball emulators? (Visual Pinball, Future Pinball, etc)
Awesome vid ETA! Best F.E. hands down, I used to be a big Hyperspin guy, but i despise Rocket Launcher. Best $50 you'll ever spend folks. If you dont have it, what you waitin for?
I just installed Launchbox, and watched your other video on importing ROMs, now... I find this video, after 3 hours of importing, can I import a full set, and will it add anymore ROMs that it didn't from the original way of importing? Or is the only difference 2-4 player etc. playlist? Thanks in advance.
Is there a way to delete the games from your harddrive that you clicked didn't import (like Casino games) or are they needed even though you're not using them?
Got it up and running in my launchbox but i want to run it fullscreen windowed. i can add -w in launchbox and get windowed but i can't figure out how to get fullscreen windowed adding -f or -fullscreen in the launchbox mame emu settings right after -w doesn't work. Any one know how to accomplish this?
Anyone else find that with these settings, Launchbox does not import The Grid? The Grid is playable within MAME and is a major Midway release of a great arcade game that doesn't seem to fit any of the "skip" criteria. Makes me wonder which value being checked flagged it for skipping and what other games might be wrongly skipped.
Thanks for this, i'm using launchbox and bigbox for about two years now and its still epic! Im still om Mame 0.178 and want to update to the latest romset. Does this also create a NeoGeo platform? I've noticed you didn't erease it before importing.
Any way to get a list of the CHDs for the imported games that work and possibly language based? I have the CHD set but really don't want to take up the 400gb+. Also, and this goes for ROMS and CHDs, how about the ability to copy over only those games? No sense having 60+ GBs of games if only 30GBs work.
Hi, thanks for this. Can you explain what the point is of importing the full set of titles including ones you don't have? Isn't it better to just import the roms you have. I'm new to this, and a bit lost. Thanks in advance.
If you have a wide monitor 1.- Create ini config archive ejecute > mame64.exe -cc (in ms-dos) 2.- Edit mame.ini and change keepaspect 1 to 0 this option fit display games
Do the ROM's have to be in the Mame/ROM's folder? I have all my ROM's on another drive for space reasons, but the games won't launch. I followed the instructions and pointed to that folder, but they won't launch. I moved a handful of ROM's to the mame/ROM's folder, and they work. How do I get it working with the ROM's in the other folder?
2 questions if you have time. Does choosing "world" for [region to prioritize] will allow me to choose the JP/NA region before playing for a game. Let's say i want to play Steet fighter2x world version but another day JP version, will it works ? And how much size a full launchbox mame folder take ? (with marquee, video and all other artwork + the 60+ go of roms)
Thanks for video but it seems i got problem 'MAME game says "initializing" and then disappears back to Launchbox selection screen" using windows 10 can you help me .
good stuff. can u tell me how to import my chd and bios files into launchbox or do they automatically get loaded in when i import my mame emulator that has them(chd, bios) why do some games work on mame alone but don't work with launchbox?? that is a deal breaker for me. too good to be true.
Im currently importing the games, and getting a ton of errors. Its not quite done, but is this normal? I did subscriptions to emumovies and Launchbox/Big box.
I'm so confused, does it default to all those games it has to scrape? When I select a folder with ROMs in it that only have a handful, it shows hundreds on the list..
Mmm.... One question. I think It would be better if the cathegories were like "sub-cathegories" inside arcade, instead being showed between all the platforms. Also another idea is filtering games by genre or number of players, with the data on the DB. It would be work for all the platforms and not only Arcade (and not only the new imports...) Is it possible? Another question is if it would be possible adding bezels without rocketlauncher in a future launchbox update. Thank you very much!!
They do show up under the Arcade platform category. Platform-specific genres and such are something that we have in mind for future releases, though getting good metadata for it might be a challenge in some situations. Bezels for emulators that don't support them is something that would be quite a nightmare to tackle, so it may happen, but probably not for a very long time.
I have a .202 set from archive .org and it is sorted into multiple folders by platform. Do I need to remove all of the subfolders, or can I leave them sorted?
Awesome vid! Question please: if I delete arcade and reimport a fresh mame set as in this vid, will the play count, ratings, favorites etc be retained? And will it recycle the artwork already there or re-DL all of it? Thank you. Been rocking 0.182 for almost 2 yrs, might be time to update with this great new tool. Excited about playlists by genre etc.! LB just keeps improving!
If you remove your games, you will unfortunately lose the metadata attached to them. However, you won't lose any existing media (images and videos). If you're concerned with keeping your metadata, you can still run the full-set importer and it will pick up anything that it finds missing. It's not the cleanest option, but it does work if you need to keep your existing games.
@@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC thanks taking the time to answer, great info. I could always take screenshots of LB before deleting, use them to piece the metadata back together on the new set if I felt like it. It's really only ratings, favorites & play counts... Thanks again!
This is such a great feature. Love the playlist categories making it easier to sort through the 1000s of ROMS. Thank you. One question, i'm using merged set. For CPS3 No CD roms i have to right click and choose in LB. How do i get it to launch the No CD rom from the get go and bypass having to choose from the sub menu? thanks
Great to hear, 76. You can right-click on the game in LaunchBox and choose Edit. Then go to the Additional Applications tab, find the correct one, and click "Make Default". :)
The full set importer just imports a full set of the latest version of MAME; that's it. If you're looking to do previous versions and such you might want to stick with the regular ROM importer. HLSL settings would be in MAME itself, so that is outside the realm of LaunchBox.
Great video. I have two questions though: Do you need to delete and repeat this operation anytime a new full set is out or can you just put the new roms of the newer set in order to LaunchBox to detect it and download the artwork and other extras? Does the Chds are automatically detected as games when they are in the roms folder like in MAME or do you need to do something else?
I can answer the second question. Since this is still using MAME to actually run the game, the CHDs will be detected by MAME as long as they are in the correctly named folder. I also am wondering about the first question, though. I updated my Split MAME Romset every month and would hate to have to scrape art all over again each time.
It's recommended to do a full re-import if possible now that we have the new full set importer. However, we'll be updating the MAME data that is included (it comes from the games database metadata that is downloaded) shortly after each MAME release. Then you can re-run the full set importer to pick up any new games without have to remove your old stuff. The only thing that the full-set importer won't do is remove any games that were removed from MAME.
Gregory Booth Thanks, but does DropBox download (and displays) the artwork for the CHDs though? Have you tried it yet? And for the other part I am in the same page as you. I can download monthly either only the new version’s roms or the entire non merged (my favorite way) romset. So it is very important to know if you need to repeat the process every time.
In my experience, every CHD has a .zip rom file associated with it. Launchbox should recognize the .zip rom file and should download whatever artwork it has in the database for that game. The CHD is just a larger chunk of data that the game uses. I just tested with Area51 which has a .zip file called "area51.zip". It also has a folder called "area51" in the ROMS folder with a CHD inside called "area51.chd". Although launchbox is only aware of the .zip file, it still downloads the art and the game loads in MAME with no issues.
I'm using 0.199 Mame today... I want to upgrade to use the new features/playlists. I have some customizations to mame.ini, etc.. Is there a different process? Do I upgrade mame first - then follow your steps? I hate breaking everything.. Great videos
The new importer will work just fine with MAME 0.199, but there might be some games added that don't actually work with 0.199. So you can chose to keep 0.199 if you want. Otherwise, you can grab the newest MAME and copy over the configuration; however, you may lose some things like save states and such. I'm not aware of a way to keep those with a MAME upgrade.
I'm in the process of doing the full metadata refresh in my cabinet now. It appears that is the first step if you have pre-existing mame. I'm letting it do everything.. so its taking hours.. I'll rebuild playlists next and see how it all goes.. To be clear - do I leave my roms in place? or MUST I upgrade to 0.201 ROMS for the new importer to work? In which case - I'll just update Mame too.. thanks
If you run the full-set importer and keep your old version of MAME, then there will be a small handful of games that were added to the latest version of MAME that will appear in your collection but won't work. That's the only issue with not updating MAME. But you can update MAME at any time and you won't have to re-import.
A question: I have a 0.196 (non-merged) set, will it work correctly with the Importer or should I bite the bullet and get a current set? I'm asking because for the life of me I can't neither find the update from 0.196 to 0.197 nor remeber how non-merged sets are updated.
The full set importer will still work great, but it will act like you have a 0.201 set. That's honestly not a big deal because it just means that there's a few extra games that work in 0.201 that won't work with your current set. The nice thing about the new importer is that you can use it and get the latest games, and just update your set later.
This is probably because your "Arcade" platform isn't under the "Arcade" platform category. The category will display games from all platforms, but not all playlists for performance reasons.
I can not get this to work. Have redone it 3 times now from scratch. I get all of the roms in the correct spot and all game art downloaded. But when I try to open a rom the screen just goes black for a moment and then goes right back to the main page with all the game boxes. Nothing. I've tried again and again.
Do i need a full rom set to do this? or can i do it with my favorite games only? To clarify i want to create the new playlists but with my existing roms only (not full set)
You would use the old, ROM importer if you don't want to import a full set. The old importer has been updated with all the new metadata as well, and should also work with the new playlists. You will need to at least update and overwrite your metadata, or re-import them though.
Is it safe to say that archive.org is the place to get the MAME 201 full set? Or just search google? Also, is there any downside to using an older full romset and corresponding older version of MAME? Thanks for the tutorial ETA!
I am really struggling to get this file to complete registration. "In order to complete your registration you will need to download this torrent and read the pdf file for your language. You should then be able to enter your code in the box below:" Any kind people can help me out? Using qbit v4.1.2 but file been stuck at 0% P.s. don't just give me your code, you will probably get banned idk.
STAINO Site currently says the following : NOTE: The latest versions of qBittorrent v4.0.x have seen connection issues and other bugs. Please consider downgrading to 3.3.16 if you encounter issues.
yer i downgraded to v3.3.16 and still no luck. however i went back 30 minutes later, still no luck, but loaded another torrent from somewhere else and then BAM, both torrents started. So all good now thanks :)
I have no idea where to find ROM sets. I’ve tried torrents. Everything I get is always incomplete, incompatible, needs CHD files or whatever. For every MAME version there’s particular files you need. I used to have MAMEUI64 with ROMs but my hard drive crashed. This is absolutely impossible. I can get set up but I cannot do anything and nobody will give a hint as to where to go for games!
For what it's worth there's the same set ETA used on arcadepunks.com. Can't vouch whether it's fine as I'm downloading it now. CHD's are the issue I have. I want to at least find Firefox (dire game but it holds a special place in my heart due to when and where I played it).
I agree. Couldn't find it either. Not even in a Google search. "MAME 0.201ROMs (split)". I already have about 20% of the roms he has and most of them are very old. Not going to download one rom at a time. There are well over 24k roms available now.
You know, honestly I'm not even sure. I just know that the MAME built-in metadata has some things that are marked as such. I'm pretty sure they're non-games though.
This means you are using the full set importer, but pointed to a folder that doesn't contain a full set. If you need help with this process you can ask over on our community forums: forums.launchbox-app.com/
Hey there, this is a great feature and i followed the video installing my Mame .209 full set. The problem is that i only have Pacman in the combo cabinet with Ms. Pacman and Galaga. I want the original Midway version, which is a clone of Puckman. I have Puckman, but not any of the Pacmans were loaded. I know there'a a ton of clones but i do want the Hearts version, the hard midway version, etc. I can play them when i load Mame separate outside of LB. How do I get these loaded into Launchbox with out redoing everything? Is there a quick way? Which options should i change if i rerun Mame full set importer? Thanks in advance
This is probably the only software I do not regret having bought. Amazing update. Thanks

Hey ETA, can you make a tutorial to how set NESICAxLive and TaytoType X,x2 and x3 on Launchbox? Will be awesome!

what is the song at the end of the video? please
Going to try this out. Which controller is best to use 360 or xbox one?
Hmm think I might dump ES and give this a go now. looks very good!
Hi, thanks for this. Can you explain what the point is of importing the full set of titles including ones you don't have? Isn't it better to just import the roms you have. I'm new to this, and a bit lost. Thanks in advance.
At 4:42, did you place the Mame folder in metadata?
Awesome job, thanks!.
If you have a wide monitor
1.- Create ini config archive ejecute > mame64.exe -cc (in ms-dos)
2.- Edit mame.ini and change keepaspect 1 to 0
this option fit display games
Do the ROM's have to be in the Mame/ROM's folder? I have all my ROM's on another drive for space reasons, but the games won't launch. I followed the instructions and pointed to that folder, but they won't launch. I moved a handful of ROM's to the mame/ROM's folder, and they work. How do I get it working with the ROM's in the other folder?
I have this problem as well. I think the answer is store the mame folder somewhere else.
Same problem here... Anyone have the answer?
2 questions if you have time. Does choosing "world" for [region to prioritize] will allow me to choose the JP/NA region before playing for a game. Let's say i want to play Steet fighter2x world version but another day JP version, will it works ?
And how much size a full launchbox mame folder take ? (with marquee, video and all other artwork + the 60+ go of roms)
Thanks for video but it seems i got problem 'MAME game says "initializing" and then disappears back to Launchbox selection screen" using windows 10 can you help me .
Where do we go for rooms now that emu has gone down.
Do I need to use the same MAME version of the romset? I downloaded the v220 romset but checking the website the latest MAME is 222. Thank you.
good stuff. can u tell me how to import my chd and bios files into launchbox or do they automatically get loaded in when i import my mame emulator that has them(chd, bios) why do some games work on mame alone but don't work with launchbox?? that is a deal breaker for me. too good to be true.
Im currently importing the games, and getting a ton of errors. Its not quite done, but is this normal? I did subscriptions to emumovies and Launchbox/Big box.
Just curious, why do you choose World as your preferred region over North America?
Love you work :D. I will try yo turn an old laptop into a arcade
Thumbs up if you knew this was ETA Prime from the voice but were confused for a minute at first though
I'm so confused, does it default to all those games it has to scrape? When I select a folder with ROMs in it that only have a handful, it shows hundreds on the list..
where did you get the roms from
Imported my full mame set, love this software but couldn't launch any cps3 roms through mame
If I select skip clones entirely, is there a way to keep only the roms for those games, I don’t want to have files I’m not using. Thx
Mmm.... One question. I think It would be better if the cathegories were like "sub-cathegories" inside arcade, instead being showed between all the platforms.
Also another idea is filtering games by genre or number of players, with the data on the DB.
It would be work for all the platforms and not only Arcade (and not only the new imports...)
Is it possible?
Another question is if it would be possible adding bezels without rocketlauncher in a future launchbox update.
Thank you very much!!
They do show up under the Arcade platform category. Platform-specific genres and such are something that we have in mind for future releases, though getting good metadata for it might be a challenge in some situations. Bezels for emulators that don't support them is something that would be quite a nightmare to tackle, so it may happen, but probably not for a very long time.
@@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC I like that the genres aren't platform specific. When I select Fighting Games, I wanna see ALL of my fighting games!
I have a .202 set from archive .org and it is sorted into multiple folders by platform. Do I need to remove all of the subfolders, or can I leave them sorted?
Great video as always, clear & precise. Hope there's no Nintendo roms in there!? 😎
LMAO, good one
excellent, thanks!
I still get a ton of missing media following these instructions. Used my split ROM set 0.203 obtained from P&D..still gives me troubles.
Yup! Could also use playlists to do the same. :)
@@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC ha! An even better idea.
Thanx looks great.
@@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC wunderbar. Thanks so much. Awesome work.
This looks very promising, lets say I want to import two different versions of mame? And would it keep my HLSL settings intact?
The full set importer just imports a full set of the latest version of MAME; that's it. If you're looking to do previous versions and such you might want to stick with the regular ROM importer. HLSL settings would be in MAME itself, so that is outside the realm of LaunchBox.
Great video.
I have two questions though:
Do you need to delete and repeat this operation anytime a new full set is out or can you just put the new roms of the newer set in order to LaunchBox to detect it and download the artwork and other extras?
@@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC is it possible to make a short video for this? How to update when we use the last mame 0.238?
But you can update MAME at any time and you won't have to re-import.
were do you download lunchbox from
A question: I have a 0.196 (non-merged) set, will it work correctly with the Importer or should I bite the bullet and get a current set?
I'm asking because for the life of me I can't neither find the update from 0.196 to 0.197 nor remeber how non-merged sets are updated.
The full set importer will still work great, but it will act like you have a 0.201 set. That's honestly not a big deal because it just means that there's a few extra games that work in 0.201 that won't work with your current set. The nice thing about the new importer is that you can use it and get the latest games, and just update your set later.
That sounds great! Thanks for the response.
virtua striker 2 and virtua NBA can in mame ?
Great tutorial. Just came across a problem though. I can no longer see “all arcade” games under the platform category.
This is probably because your "Arcade" platform isn't under the "Arcade" platform category. The category will display games from all platforms, but not all playlists for performance reasons.
That was it, not sure why it changed. Thanks!
I can not get this to work. Have redone it 3 times now from scratch. I get all of the roms in the correct spot and all game art downloaded. But when I try to open a rom the screen just goes black for a moment and then goes right back to the main page with all the game boxes. Nothing. I've tried again and again.
I have the same ,this guy makes good videos ,but does not help people by answering there questions....
How do you import mame via Rocketlauncher
Do i need a full rom set to do this? or can i do it with my favorite games only? To clarify i want to create the new playlists but with my existing roms only (not full set)
You would use the old, ROM importer if you don't want to import a full set. The old importer has been updated with all the new metadata as well, and should also work with the new playlists. You will need to at least update and overwrite your metadata, or re-import them though.
Can you have your emulator (platform) and your roms folder in different locations and not inside the main MAME folder?
Yes you have to point mame and launchbox to the roms location and edit the mame.ini file to the proper rom location
? Why mame not working
Does the arcade importer count neo geo syuff? I cant seem to import them and get them to work with mame correctly
Use fbalpha for neo Geo. Download the fbalpha core in retroarch and associate it with neo Geo games. Import them as neo Geo instead of arcade or name.
Is it safe to say that archive.org is the place to get the MAME 201 full set? Or just search google? Also, is there any downside to using an older full romset and corresponding older version of MAME? Thanks for the tutorial ETA!
If you are comfortable with torrents, there is a full 201 set downloadable from the dome of pleasure (wink wink, nudge nudge).
I doubt archive.log has the newest set. See above. :)
I am really struggling to get this file to complete registration.
"In order to complete your registration you will need to download this torrent and read the pdf file for your language. You should then be able to enter your code in the box below:"
Any kind people can help me out?
Using qbit v4.1.2 but file been stuck at 0%
P.s. don't just give me your code, you will probably get banned idk.
STAINO Site currently says the following :
NOTE: The latest versions of qBittorrent v4.0.x have seen connection issues and other bugs. Please consider downgrading to 3.3.16 if you encounter issues.
yer i downgraded to v3.3.16 and still no luck.
however i went back 30 minutes later, still no luck, but loaded another torrent from somewhere else and then BAM, both torrents started.
So all good now thanks :)
launchBox will not work erro send request A redirect request change a non-secure to a secure connection
Do you need any BIOS files? I double click on the rom and it is not opening.
Doesn't work for me either, it just goes from loading to game over in Big box.
Did you say you could use the controller instead of the mouse?
Yes, you can with the premium version.
how can i find the roms ?
Does it work with Retroarch Core of Mame?
Yes, the new full-set importer does work great with the Retroarch MAME core. We tested specifically for this.
Why do I need the internet?....i have roms 62 GB...?
So it ended up being that I needed a mame.ini file in the MAME directory. Dont why because in the video he doesn't have the ini file
Still get black screen, have all the bios files etc, etc, etc
I dont understand Y this isnt working for me.. just stays on the screen with the game info and does nothing else
Where can I get that .201 full rom set?
I agree. Couldn't find it either. Not even in a Google search. "MAME 0.201ROMs (split)". I already have about 20% of the roms he has and most of them are very old. Not going to download one rom at a time. There are well over 24k roms available now.
What's unbroken software?
The company that has made LaunchBox since the beginning, starting with just Jason. :)
@@UnbrokenSoftwareLLC
Very cool!!
What is "non-arcade games" about?
You know, honestly I'm not even sure. I just know that the MAME built-in metadata has some things that are marked as such. I'm pretty sure they're non-games though.
specified folder does not contain a full mame set
This means you are using the full set importer, but pointed to a folder that doesn't contain a full set. If you need help with this process you can ask over on our community forums: forums.launchbox-app.com/
Does anyone know where I can find the newer rom set?
Thanks in advance
bios ???
Any Rocketlauncher users who has found a way of using it with the Playlist 😁
Mine is working through Rocketlauncher with the Playlist, what is your question?
how to do all this from the start to end and where to you get all your roms from
Please,update the video :/
This dont work
0.201 is dead on usenet fyi
Why are old arcade machines much harder to setup than newer ones..... people were really much smarter back then....
Unbroken Software LLC you've stolen ETA Prime's content shame on you.
Not only do we steal his content, we keep him locked away in a closet.
How dare you... Lol
