Randy McLane I always enjoyed catching them on trips to Michigan and Minnesota. When they blew up in lily pads it’d always get my adrenaline pumping. Pike need love too😜

Remember to get out and enjoy the day if it’s fishing, long walks on the beach or just hanging with friends and family. You can never count on tomorrow so live for each day.
When we catch a pike minnow here in Oregon, it is recommended to remove it (kill it) from the water (pond/lake/river/etc) so they don't eat the spawning bass eggs. I know you mentioned that in this video, and they chewed holes in your frog too. Love to watch your videos man. Glad to see you back on the water fishing.

Hey Debo, I agree I love catching pike on topwater! But did you know you're not supposed to hold a pike vertical like that? You're supposed to keep then horizontal or keep them in the water or net. Thanks for the great vids brother! Like I always say, no matter how much you know there's always something you can learn from your peers. Have a great one!
Recently got into fishing again after 10+ years. Stumbled upon your channel doing some research and have been hooked ever since. Thanks for the tips and for helping me really get back into fishing! Still trying to get those top water bites..

Nothing beats the topwater pike action..💪 *quick tip for everyone: you don't need to use the jaw spreaders to open his mouth..just slide your hand under his gill plate, and grab firmly (don't stick the fingers to deep lol).. and they should open up, and you have the best possible grip on the fish, and no problem of unhooking the pike 😄

Great video Debo. Sucks that happen to that rod. I know we had discussed about how you liked that rod. I have heard others in some groups Im in that theirs did the same thing over time.
I've been watching your channel for a couple of weeks and recently subscribed, I've just gotten into bass fishing and appreciate the informative videos. I'm looking for an all around and versatile baitcasting setup. I've been using spinning and fly fishing gear for 20 years and never fished with a baitcasting setup. Best
Regardless of what people say, you don’t have to send a ton to get a good set up. I ask Debo for advice all the time on what to use. The bigger thing is going and getting your hands on something you might be interested in. I know my local bait show does a rental program, they have demo items for people to use, not only does that give you the ability to try it before you buy it but when the new stuff comes out the demo stuff goes on sale!
To reiterate what Randy said: Don't spend a fortune on a combo! It's not necessary. You can pick up a decent all purpose set-up for $150-$200 (even closer to $100 if you do your research). You won't be able to do every technique effectively, but you'll get in the game. Look for a rod between 7' and 7'3", medium to medium heavy, fast to moderate-fast action (the more eyelets the better). For an all purpose reel; stick with a name brand, but go for their middle to budget line. No need for a Shimano Metanium or other high-end reel if you're the weekend angler. Keep it simple; there are a lot of options in the $75-$100 range that are great and will last you many seasons if taken care of. One last bit of advice: Just because it's pretty to look at doesn't mean it's worth the price. The simple neutral colors without all the bells and whistles are usually cheaper. As you grow into the sport you can upgrade as you see fit. My first set-up cost me $100 and I still use it today. It still gets the job done and I've caught hundreds of fish and cranked in many miles of line. Best of luck!
your so lucky that you have an abundance of them!! there are only a few fisheries here in colorado that have em.. most places are private! ones a refuge so only a few days outta the year to fish for them

@@DEBOSFishing got any tips? Mostly for pickerel but very similar. Maybe make a video for handling toothy fish? I usually just let the pickerel break free. I hate it cuz I know it stresses them.
@@MrJaybeezy123 Maybe you already know by now, but I will still try to answer your question. The first thing you actually want to do is learn the gill plate grab. I learned it by looking up videos on UA-cam. Just make sure to practice it on bigger fish first as I found this easier. Further I do say an unhooking mat comes in handy and ofcourse a good unhooking plier. Preferably a long one with good leverage. Now if you don't feel like using a mat the gill plate grab itself can be sufficient to safely unhook toothy fish.
I am moving up to northern Ontario. Where Pike are Pike and the Bass weep. You are welcome to come here for a fishing trip and catch northern pike that make your Pike look like Debo dinks.
Catching Pike fishing for Bass is always exciting; because getting your $20 dollar lure back is a reward in itself. Pike, Pickerel, Bowfin and Musky all make floating hollow body frogs into sinking ones. Enter the floating Z-Man ELAZTECH Pop ShadZ and Pop FrogZ. These things are Nylabone chew toys for Pike they take a licking and keep on ticking. You get 3 or 4 depending on the size for $5or $6 dollars and they walk and cast as good as any hollow body frog. Because they sit lower in the water Bass and Pike miss them less often. They can be rigged with any hook you choose; single, double or treble. Get some tieable wire leader used for Pike and Musky fly fishing and they never cut you off. Sooner than later the time will come when a 15 or 20-pounder eats your pathetic little frog and you will wish you had wire tied on. Big Pike don’t come willingly to the net; ever. Braid might be tough; but it frays easily and breaks. Wire does not fray and sharp teeth has no effect on tieable Seven Strand wire. This stuff comes in different diameters and weights. I use 17-pound a lot, it works fine on top water lures and the knots are small and easy to tie. You need a sharp pair of wire cutters and good fishing pliers to tie it. You can use crimping sleeves but tying it is just as good in my opinion. DINK; Dual-Income-No-Kids; Dinky; small, compact, cute, neat. Debo Dink cute small bass fish that is willing to eat anything and swims in large schools in small ponds and lakes.
Hey man, I see that you fish with a veritas rod. I have three vendetta’s and like them...is the extra $20-$25 price point worth it to bump up to a veritas? Any input would be huge...I love in northeast and have similar weather to you so your videos really help me. Thanks man.
If I may...I too like the Vendetta series and have put them through their paces with no issues whatsoever. That said, they are not the most comfortable rod IMHO. I think the Veritas are more comfortable to hold and do seem to have more parabolic action than the Vendetta. If I had to guess, the Veritas (of the same action as the Vendetta) gives you deeper blank flex. I'm not an expert and this is just my 2 cents. I use both for different allocations and am good with that. Is the Veritas worth the extra Jackson and Lincoln? I think so if you want/need more parabolic flex. Is the Vendetta a great, budget friendly, tough as nails, versital rod? Hell yeah!
I had two and they were good. The aluminum reel seat was awesome. Just don't get the ones with the micro guides. I've heard bad stuff from multiple people.

I get it! 🧐😑 People in Iowa when people in Florida say 30 deg is cold....🙊🤣🥶
Crazy u handled the pike that way. I couldn't do it. Hate catching those toothy fish.
Nah, they just get a bad rap.
Man, that would be a blast to catch them up there!
I need a shirt saying watch out for otters. And otter Onslaught on the back
Amazing! Debo, I got ideas for this one
I'll let Randizzle design that one!
Beautiful spot for frogging. Keep ripping lips Debo
Yes sir, love throwing the frog there! 👊
Good job😁😁😁
Pike are awesome dude! Don't ever be ashamed to say you like catching them. Pike eat bass bro
Haha this is true!

Yes, go find some! They are a lot of fun to catch!
You keep saying “Go Hawks!”, but I think you mean “Go Badgers!” 👐🏼
Todd Reuter Outdoors can we just agree Nebraska sucks?
Go Hawks! 😁
Don't bring that badger business around here...🤣👊
Catching Pike fishing for Bass is always exciting; because getting your $20 dollar lure back is a reward in itself.
Yeah, I had some thick mono leaders i was using and ran out. They can cut that line like nothing!
launch frog is the best frog ever made!!!!!
No matter how small the fish are you’re out there hooking up and hooking down 🎣
I wish 😉👍🏻
Agreed, catching dinks is a lot better than a lot of things in life!
DEBO'S Fishing , OH YEAH 🎣👍🏻
Hell yeah!
Veritas rods are awesome!! I use for salmon in the pnw...they are freakin puppy chuckers bro!
I had two and they were good. The aluminum reel seat was awesome. Just don't get the ones with the micro guides. I've heard bad stuff from multiple people.
It seems like every time your at that spot the pike are juat going insane.. and seems like time to retire the ole topwater reel lol
Yes and yes! What shall I switch to though?🤔
Lol good question but for the money im loving my slx dc i have all 3 slx and love them all
