Crazy that you can walk around it’s a great way to refresh the old point and click control style like google street view now it’s a complete experience that the old game lacked !!!!!!!!
I love watching new players amble around the island for the fist time trying to figure stuff out. Don't beat yourself up about your lack of problem-solving skills, you actually did a pretty decent job for a new arrival to Myst Island :)
I'm 26 minutes in and just watched you mentally work your way from immediately nopeing out of the generator room to piecing together a perfectly accurate model of how the power-to-ship puzzle works, even if you haven't found the correct voltage yet. You've got exactly what someone playing Myst and other environmental puzzle games needs: solid attention to detail, the ability to construct mental models in your head of how things around you work, and the willingness to test and iterate on your hypotheses until you work out the solutions. Those abilities together are known as "problem-solving skills", so perhaps you have more of them than you let on! I'm so glad to see you've got a play-through of Riven on this channel as well. In my opinion, that's the best game in the series, and I'm so excited to see you work your way through it! Subbing.
As a 90's kid (born in 88) Myst defined the types of games that I played growing up; point-and-click puzzle games will always be my favorite kind. Your problem solving skills are not lacking at all. The way you approach problems and figure out what to do is exactly the kind of thinking this type of game requires. Which you obviously know now that you finished the series and are currently playing Obduction. 😆
Those types of games could last years as there was no easy access to internet or guides back then. Just brainstorming with friends. (Source: born early 80s)
About once or twice a year I decide to watch someone playthrough myst and I’m so glad I found you! Great commentary and attention to detail. Can’t wait to binge these AND the rest of the series 🙌
UA-cam today was like, you should watch another Myst let’s play :) so fun to find someone that did a blind play though, I got it on the original PlayStation as my first game. It’s burned into my heart a little bit. The music still makes me quite happy.
I love Myst, it has such a great atmosphere! If you like mysteries, finding clues, and reading diaries to find even more clues you'll enjoy it a lot. It's cool that they have a randomized puzzle option.
Thanks for the comment. I was looking for a new game to play and noticed this just released. It's the perfect opportunity for me to play this classic that I missed when I was younger. I'm definitely enjoying it so far.
Discovered your channel while looking for Outer Wilds LPs only to find a veritable treasure trove of blind Myst series gameplay in 2022. I've strapped in for the marathon, and you've earned yourself a subscriber.
Played Myst for the first time as a young child. I always love watching new players. Even though I know most of the puzzles by heart, it's fun to watch someone try them for the first time.
After playing through most of them myself (I'm on Uru right now) I can definitely see the appeal of watching a fresh playthrough! I hope you enjoy my LP and thanks for the support!
You may wish to consider making the various book readings as separate videos. The whole thing about the game is to make you explore in a non-linear fashion, fail and explore more until you unravel the mystery of that puzzle and eventually the game. Be aware that figuring out the puzzles without help is extremely difficult so do not despair. Some versions of Myst contain a hint function. Check your version. If not then ask your viewers. They will help you just enough, otherwise there are the hint books but I doubt they still publish those.
I'm in my mid 50s and just paid for Hogwarts Legacy. Challenge is, I havent played a game on PC in like 30 yrs so it is going to be fun. Last game I played were Kings Quest 1, 2 and 8 altho I have the whole lot. I have Myst yet never played it. After seeing this, given time, I might play it once I move to Europe (in the next few months) and show my Mrs as she has never seen a PC game, I think.....hence why I cant wait to show her Hogwarts Legacy....the graphics, and fantasy and magic in it will be awesome 🙂
When I played this, it was on a rental Sega Saturn with no backup memory, so we had to leave it turned on to complete the game. We messed up right at the end by forgetting to pick up the final page!
They always sucker me into buying Myst all over again every time a new version is released. I probably have 15 versions for various game consoles and the PC. I'll probably get this one once it's on sale on Steam.
14:41 LOL meme worthy. or youtube short? w/e they call it. Hey you're bringing back all kinds of memories for me. I'd watch my old man play this game back when it was totally original. You'd move from panel to panel, by clicking, no independent 3d movement. we had at least one notebook totally filled with information we gathered through the game. Have you given the following Myst games a go? Riven was a super cool experience, highly recommend. Exile was confusing for me but also up to the standards of all the other Myst games.
Never played any of the Myst games before this. Was well aware of their existence growing up, just never played them. I'll definitely consider playing the sequels though.
@@charlieniner2gaming Cool! Watched another channel do Obduction recently, I'll try not to give it away. I never played Riven and the others, doing MYST again would be like coming home. I think I also played 7th Guest, sort of a haunted mansion puzzle game, might be from the same group, Cyan, Broderbund. They had a kids game too we had.

I hope you finished this. I'm also glad you read the books. Great job.

"Nope, nope, nope, nope." 😂
Wow, you got a ways into the Channelwood journal before commenting on the length of it!
It’s great watching someone play it for the first time. You have a great vibe
Thanks for the encouragement!

These games make me wish I could erase my memories so I can play it for the first time over and over.
Agreed!

Very cool, seeing you tackling Myst island for the 1st time!

Loved this game! Solved it by myself on the original PC game without the help of the internet.
I hope you enjoy my playthrough!
You are severely underrated my friend! Greta video!

I'm pretty sure the 10 minutes you spent just reading a virtual book on UA-cam takes up more data than the entire original game took up on its CD-ROM.

Omg! That would have devastated me as a kid.

This one is different enough (full 3d + vr support) that I feel it is worth a purchase.
Back when games required thinking, and a pen and paper. :)
Fond, but also, frustrating memories....

I like it because there was no pressure, nobody shooting at me giving me a heart attack, just nice peaceful and beautiful place to go exploring
I had a lot of notes too, sketches, parts of text. Spent many hours reading books and taking notes, anything that might be a clue
Something is wrong with my brain. I have no clue what to do when I try and play this game .
Nothing wrong, that's the point of these type of games.
Played the original in the 90's. I need to figure out how the Steam thing works and if my computer can even run it
Just subbed after seeing you've played the Myst games.
Thanks for the support. I'm working through Uru right now and will move on to Myst 5 and Obduction after that. I hope you enjoy the LPs!

Dang I was only 5 when must came out
You must be the only gamer who hasn't played Myst.
Well, now I have! Lol 😆.
