Firewatch part 7 - Deeper Down the Rabbit Hole
Welcome to 98% of Starfield outside quest lines: go to a random planet, scan a lot, run around to random points of interest. Rinse and repeat 😂. I enjoy it, but most people probably find it all tedious.
No surprise about losing money on ship modifications, pretty sure that is the most expensive thing you can do in the game, even commandeering a ship from pirates/spacers isn't worth it. Plus ship modifications are very confusing to be sure, took me 7 tries my first time.
I don't understand why your channel hasn't blown up yet, by far one of my favorite streamers. The only problem is that you always seem to find puzzle style games I want to play and don't want it spoiled so I have to postpone watching 😭.
Thank you for the kind words!
Don't forget the other useful reason to keep companions is for extra carry backpacks, even if they are incredibly annoying and get in the way a lot, lol. I did get a laugh when you said you had to sell stuff and then proceeded to walk through the trade authority twice.
When I go here &t=6:34, I get the concatenation in stead of the force multiplier.
Wonder if you figured out that you could bring your cutter out in scan mode, without having to favorite it? Not sure of the button on the controller, but mouse 2 allows you to refine the Lazer on your cutter so it doesn't take as long to mine minerals, not sure if you figured that out either. As exciting as it is to watch new playthroughs I do feel for all of the unknown shortcuts that is quality of life for any player. Yeah, I had Barrett stuck as my companion and couldn't get rid of him since he was locked in due to a mission I completely forgot about, ended up shooting him a couple of times out of sheer frustration for running in and killing everything in sight, so frustrating. Fun fact I ended up building an outpost on Tau Cetii 2, so not a bad location at all 😊. Not going to lie, I have yelled a couple of times "use your scanner more" when you were out exploring, I love the scanning tool. Hopefully you figured out quickly that you could scan unknown locations too.
I think it always starts the mission just as dusk is setting in, just to up the horror aspect of the quest, it doesn't seem to trigger until you are in eye sight or turn on the first breaker. Took me forever since I was looting everything. And I think my game was stuck on easy mode so I didn't even get a chance to kill it for XP because I was running around like a crazy person trying to find the switches 😅.
This is, by far, the best designed mission in this whole game. Alien: Isolation vibes.
I think Starfield is in a weird place graphically. On the one hand it looks outdated by comparison of other games coming out right now, but on the other it is the best one Bethesda has put out to date. For me it is the mouths of the NPC's that throws off the entire experience and kinda off-putting, their teeth are weird and they seem almost robotic at times when moving. Finally, NPCs overall look cookie cutter, once you see it you can't un see it, no matter how hard you try.
I feel so bad you keep missing things because you don't realize that your scanner will indicate things you can pick up, aka a ton of ammo, med packs, and credits 😢. Did you ever figure out that you had to invest in boost with your skill points for you to be able to use the boost packs?? And I get your frustration about flying, took me forever to figure out about using your scanner while flying and selecting targets for distance tracking/fast travel. Just wasn't the best design for intuitive learning because you are figuring stuff out and miss so much of the dialogue from NPCs who are explaining the concept/process. I looked at the controls menu a lot in the intro menu to figure out how actions worked in the game.
Hopefully you figured out all the features that the scanner could do quickly! There are many parts of Starfield that just aren't intuitive so it comes in eureka moments or looking online about how the feature/step works.
I felt so bad when you said you didn't want to miss anything and immediately missed the 3 digi picks on the ground right in front of the safe where the heat leech popped out. Add to the fact that you somehow missed the tutorial for the scanner just after you landed on Kreet and I was empathetic of your struggle to find things, the beauty of going in blind. Finally, I am almost positive the sweet rolls were an Easter egg because I have yet to find them anywhere else in the game, which is hilarious if true, since you ate it.
Why all the negativity. . . sorry to hear that people don't understand why you want to enjoy playing Starfield. I am having fun watching you play
you completely ignoring the fact that you followed a crazed man here who stole Atrus' most precious book and set his home on fire is killing me 😂 Like, that happened very dramatically, you followed him here, watched him run away, and then decided to read an entire book and go the opposite direction of him to try to solve a puzzle with no context as if you had come here alone just to explore and not to chase an attacker 😂 I'm not judging, we all do stuff like that when playing games. I think there's a natural aversion to going the way the game "wants" you to in moments like these because you're (reasonably) worried about missing something, even though the game is doing everything it can to tell you "chase the guy!"
I'm sure he had good reason to steal Atrus' book and set his lab on fire. Atrus plays god while real people suffer! Meanwhile, I'm just a tourist. :)
@@charlieniner2gaming literally cannot argue with that 😂
I know that I am late to the game, but I am excited to watch your playthrough 😊. Not that it matters now, but hidden under the bridge to access the artifact there is a room with some loot and a couple of rare minerals 😊.
You have the perfect voice for let's plays. Thx for segregating ur videos into playlists
Thank you!
"But what will you do if you meet a relentless killer? You'll die and you'll die and you'll die. Until you tire of trying. What will you do then? Will you kill out of frustration? Or will you give up entirely on this world... and let ME inherit the power to control it?" -Flowey
Make sure and thank your wife on our behalf that she helps us get proper blind playthroughs!
Never feel like you need to apologize for your wife and kids! They are a true blessing for giving you the time and space to run your channel, even if they might occasionally make a ruckus! =) I truly worry about some other content creators that actually forego having a family entirely for the sake of their youtube channel....
👏👏👏👏 I played it as a teenager and never had enough patience to properly solve it.
Cool to learn about your background 👍
I'm really enjoying this gameplay, I'm binge watching it 😅. Great work, you more than gained my subscription.
14:50 Because that kind of realism in 3D generated games was extremely rare in the 90s, so it's there for us to contemplate the detail of these objects, and to wonder what they were used for. Some have clues about the story.
For me the hint was seeing the path, there had to be a way to access it, and the only way was behind the door.
It took me forever to realize those doors could hide something 😅 Now I look behind the doors in all games
1:07 In the "making of Riven" documentary, they explained the pain of rendering all the images of the rotating room in all the possible states, I think they gave up on having animations from this side 😅
I didn't realize there were different frog animations, the level of detail!
I remember fondly when I was learning the numbers and then I saw the pattern and it was so satisfying!
19:10 Yes, that's why I watch ;)
I really love these videos! You playing it blind and explaining your thoughts brings me back to when I played it long time ago. It also shows the limitations of the technology of the era, but it's a great, lovely game 😊
I'm glad you're enjoying it!
It's a great game, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did! Back in 1997, these pre rendered graphics were incredible, they used Silicon Graphics (SGI) Unix workstations and Softimage 3D, including a team of 40 people to develop the game! If you play the Talos Principle II today with the maximum quality, you'd get a similar experience of the awe we had in the late 90 with Riven.
30 episodes! Hoo boy, this should be good! =D
"How was there a fire?!" lol, you missed this because of your lack of urgency in the opening sequence. I noticed that as Atrus' study was burning all around you, you just kind of lackadaisically moved the cursor around seeing if there was anything else you could do besides follow the arsonist thief through the book as quickly as possible. =D
Don't feel bad about needing a hint. I played all the MYST games when they first came out. There were no hints to look up. It took me a couple of **MONTHS** to finish each game.
Love that little "Oh God!" reaction at 29:04. Just goes to show you how visceral these games were, and still are to this day!
After I finished the previous episode, I got one of those rare feedback prompts on the main page asking about my experience with episode 8. These are the algorithm-based prompts for channels/videos you click on through YT's recommendation system, that ask you to rate the content out of 5 stars and select why you liked it. I of course gave it 5 stars and selected "Calming" and "Entertaining". =)
Thank you!
Watching through this series a bit late, but loving it! Finding the start to Eagle's Nest(getting the boxes inside) is very unintuitive to a lot of people, well done on finding it so quickly!
Why do you completely ignore the last line of "epitaph" QR codes? The hold interesting information that adds to the story/lore.
7:24 "...have you?" Priceless reaction! I'm vicariously experiencing the thrill of meeting Gehn for the first time by watching your playthrough. =D Sadly it's something we only ever truly get to experience one time.
Hearing you talk about how you always wanted to do UA-cam let’s plays and seeing your well produced and entertaining content it makes me kind of sad you don’t have more views. I for one throughly enjoy watching you play !!
I was just thinking the same thing. I found his Riven playthrough due to the hype over the remake, and am actually enjoying it quite a bit.
Absolutely, he deserves loads of views, best playthrough ever
I really enjoyed that little playthrough, thank you. You should check out Riven remake that just released. If you liked Myst, you're in for a treat with Riven !
16:43 As many times as I've played this, I never noticed that the "hook finger" hand stands for a 180 degree turn. That sure would have been nice to figure out...
This was really good entertainment, I especially liked how concise you narrate your own thoughts. Will watch riven next. Thanks a lot!
I love watching people figure put this game. Your playthrough might be my favourite far. I'm really enjoying the methodical approach and pace.
