  • What is vascular dementia? Vascular dementia is a progressive loss of brain function caused by multiple strokes, or infarcts, which in turn are caused by atherosclerosis of the vessels supplying the brain.

      My dad is having an inpatient psych evaluation right now after being hospitalized for breaking his hip. It started 8 weeks ago seemingly out of the blue. Horrific hallucinations 24/7, full on sundowner syndrome. Extreme paranoia. I went to check on him one morning when my mom called saying he was scaring her. This wasn't normal for my dad so I went quickly and stayed for 7 weeks following him all day and all night. He saw dead bodies, maggots, etc. He tried to burn the house down to get rid of the people coming out of the ceiling etc...I Hid his keys, started paying their bills and arranging meds properly. Couldn't get help because he had no active infections to explain the psychosis. He has renal cell carcinoma but it hadn't spread and labs were good. He'd been awake for 4 days so he would crash for 2 days that's how I was able to get him to the hospital. Since he wasn't actively agitated they sent him back home. A week later he fell and broke his hip. He was calm after general anesthesia for a couple days then went nuts. Was moved to inpatient rehab for hip and went nuts again which required being transferred to geriatric psych facility for the evaluation he's needed for 2 months how. That's where we stand as of today. I'm sorry you're going thru this and sorry for dumping this here but I needed to get it out lol. His vascular system is terrible and he can no longer have more stents placed as he's got so many. We were worried about when a stroke would happen, never once knew of or worried about vascular dementia. I'll be very surprised if this isn't the diagnosis they come up with.

    • @onlyred2

      @@awadheshsingh9948this is not the sort of thing you ask online. As a medical student, I would advice to be careful of the usual medications given for dementia, as they might cause more harm then benefit in vascular dementia (Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, such as Donezepil could cause arrhythmias for instance, leading to more infarcts).

      @@michellehollensteiner4643no, i won't. i work with morbidly obese people who have severe dementia and they wish they could live independently. When they need to pee/poo, they usually do it in a diaper and it can take a CNA hours sometimes to change them - because other patients need to be hang fed (like my own fat grannie) or are having a stroke or heart attack or a patient is being violent towards staff or another resident. If hurting feelings by slamming reality in your face now prevents you from the suffering I see daily, that is better than politely keeping my mouth shut. Much of the suffering is from the staff and caregivers who will never be able to do enough to make patients content.
      BTW, when a person dies of heart disease, they slowlllyyyy drown to death in their own fluids. It is scary to watch. No amount of drugs can prevent all of the pain and fear associated with drowning.

    The mini mental status test isn’t specific enough to identify transient ischemic attacks. And symptoms of dementia do NOT appear suddenly. They are usually subtle and progressive. By the time they’re detected, the disease has been active quite some time.

      I know all successful people seek out and thrive on constructive criticism and advice. So am I to give advice you may wonder well my brother works for Dennis Collins for 10 years and if you don't know him just took him up on UA-cam he's best friends with Richard Rollins probably the most well-known classic car guy. My suggestion is maybe comment on people other than just the people that tell you how great your videos are and you say thank you and I'm not implying that you give a diagnosis or give medical advice. Regret and hope I don't sound like I'm looking for pity but if I want to see a psychiatrist at the age of 21 and I was prescribed clonazepam which triggered me to do other drugs so if you were to compare different patient situation I'm freaking 45 years old still got my looks and haven't even had a female girlfriend in 7 years and never been in love so yes I did some ecstasy and stuff it just seemed odd did someone might check it's lost in a big house I think it's a pretty serious neurological issue and I can only assume I got skipped over for a thank you because it's not fault that I took some drugs.

      I am sorry your child is ill, but it is illegal in the US to practice the kind of medicine you are requesting here. Doctors cannot prescribe treatment without seeing the patient and after taking tests of many kinds. Plus, western medicine in most cases, vitamins are not their forte'.
      Too much iron can be deadly. Do not treat without a medical doctor.

    • @genkiferal7178
      @genkiferal7178 3 місяці тому +1

      I think zinc decreases the effects of iron. Obviously, don't let her eat meats high in iron if you think iron is her problem. make sure that she and her house and room are extremely clean, because bacteria in the body uses iron to multiply. If her iron is too high, she will be more prone to bacterial infections.
      When she begins having her menstural cysle at about age 15, her blood iron should be fine. It is very easy to give/take too much iron otherwise!
      Look up a nutrient-rich or nutrient-density diet. Dark leafy green, citrus fruits, sunflower seeds, winter squashes are high on the list of nutrient-dense foods. Fresh seafoods also can be. Grains often are not. If she is too skinny, then encouraging her to eat a lot of **fresh** sesame seeds (or tahini) and sunflower seeds might help her gain weight.
