THANK YOU SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO MUCH!!! This worked perfectly. For anyone reading, I'm a completely unexperienced teenager with this type of thing and it worked perfectly for me. This only took me about an hour, but it's worth it. You deserve way more subscribers! This was so much help, thank you so much.
My guess would be somewhere in Shenzhen, possibly Foxconn. As far as I know the replacements being sold now are original LCDs which had broken lens/digitizers. They are refurbished using a process that requires an industrial level vacuum chamber that removes any air trapped between the lens and LCD.
This video had instructions missing in the others - those extra instructions, especially about moving the sticky connector pads made all the difference.
This is an excellent video. The details are terrific. I just followed it start to finish while performing a replacement and I was successful. Thank you!
This video was great thanks! I have a few questions. My phone has water damage so I have removed the screen as there was moisture in there between the screen. My phone has been previously fixed by a company, but they glued the metal plate to the back of the phone. I have managed to separate the two but I am not sure whether the plate will still work. In the process, small parts of plastic were removed but I think that is from the screen. The metal plate is showing a small red dot, presumably indicating that the phone has been in contact with a liquid. Shall I replace this plate with a more expensive kit from Amazon with a replacement plate already attached? or shall I continue to use this metal plate when I attempt to fix the phone? I am leaving the phone in parts to allow it to dry out. I will (try to) replace the phone in a couple of days. The old screen displayed purple lines so I think it was definitely damaged by the water. Overall I am unsure whether this phone is revivable. So before I spent £30 on a replacement I wanted to ask. As alternatively, I have a spare iPhone. Many thanks
My iphone 5c screen is broken but was still usable until it dropped today and the innerscreen just shows random colours and now i cannot use it. I believe it's my inner lcd panel that is broken...does changing the screen fix this problem?
I tried this and first of the new screen didnt show anything, but then I did the restart (holding in power button and home button at the same time) and it worked!
Do you need to remove the ear speaker mesh and the front facing camera protector or can you just skip that step? Because some of the other videos I've seen on UA-cam don't do this step.
My iPhone 5 screen is cracked and black. The phone is fully functional as far as Siri taking commands can go (i.e I can make calls, listen to music, etc...). For the most part the touch screen still works as well. If I was to receive a call, if I slide it in the right area, it'll answer just fine. If I was to replace the screen and LCD digitizer would this make my phone fully functional again?
You new lens should come with the speaker mesh. If not I would definitely transfer the old one over or you will accumulate metallic debris over time and your speaker will start sounding very bad and eventually stop working. I recommend putting every single part back in. Apple doesn't install components without good reason.
on my iphone 5, the digital part of the screen itself is broken, the the glass. Pixels are changing different colors, and it can't recognize where im pressing my finger on the phone. Will what you're doing fix my problem?
hi i just watched this and i dropped my phone and there is this black spot up in the corner now and my touch sreen doesnt work at all but my phone isnt cracked do you have any idea why its not working and what i would have to get replaced bcause its an iphone 5 SE
+Hayk Davis Impractical would be a better term. For most DIYers though the outcome is not going to be anything like an original screen. If you are in the phone repair business and have the equipment then different story obviously.
hi nice video, how to do close properly the screen withtout damaging ribbon flex cable, i mean first time i get line and i damaged when i close the lcd, second time digitizer won't work, so how to properly fit the ribbon without any damage during closing part, do you cunk the ribbon before installing or do you use anything to hold the ribbon before to close ? thanks for the trick i'm already on my second screen try.
+Oser Oz I have to assume that you are putting stress on them somehow if they are working before you close the phone. Theres not much room for them to reach so while its hard to explain in words you have to make sure that there is at least some slack on the cables at all times.
Go Cell Phone Repair thanks aswering, i know what you mean but that doesn't explain me the last trick to close it without to stress flex cables.the small chip close the screen is really sensitive and i don't know the close part trick to start closing the screen without having some tension on it, i fix quiet a lot of iphone and this one start to p*ss me off, while on same iphone 5s lcd, i play with them plug/unplug and remove them with tension on the cipset and no problem while on this phone when i close it i had 2 times screen flex problem, what's the point i'm missing? you cunk the ribbon before you close ? thanks mate
Hello. At 5:11, (right next to the last connector you released) there is a small square "tab" coming from the screen, (and from my replacement screen) that has what looks like should be connections on it. What are these for? It looks as if they are not connected to anything. Thanks.
I replaced the LCD. Everything works fine accept for the earpiece. I cannot hear anyone talking on the other line. I don't know if it's because when I replaced it I had ripped the cable that connects to the 2 round silver dots under the earpiece. Do you understand what I mean? Do I need to replace it if so how do I order it. Please help
If you tore the cable with the two gold contacts then yes it will need to be replaced. I have added a link to the part at the bottom of this page gocellphonerepair.com/how-t/videos/iphone-5-lcd-replacement/
are these replacement LCDs authorized Apple products? Brought my iphone 5 to a local repair shop here in the Philippines and noticed sime changes on the color. or image quality.
+amorsolo _ In most cases they are refurbished screens with original Apple LCD and after market glass. You will see variations in price that reflect the quality as there are some knock offs too. A good part itself will run about $45 USD currently. That is before labor charges. People that I know who travel to the PI have told me that you must be very careful about where you take your phone for repair.
I have an iphone 5c that is cracked it only show black screen with lines but i can see the time .. the screen is not functional... Do i need an lcd screen or just regular front screen?
I just replaced my lcd and then charged the phone. I knew it turned on cause it vibrated but it won't stop vibrating and is pitch black... Tried holding down the power button to reset it or turn it off but nothing changed (still vibrating). There is no water damage. Any suggestions??
I have a 5c and the screen came off but the back part of the screen didn't come off with the glass so the piece on the back is still on the phone what do I do , suction cup it off?
Go Cell, I need help. I replaced my screen and after 2days the touch screen stop working and i try to re clip the connector if that was the problem after that i try to put the phone on the screen never show or display back light but when i call the phone from another phone its rings but do not ring out and when i connect it to my computer its shows that the phone is connected. Please i need your help.
That would be the best thing to do if possible. That way you can determine if its the screen or the phone that is causing the problem. If you dont have another on hand take a close look at the connectors on the screens cables and the phones logic board with some sort of magnification. Hopefully youll be able to see if something was torn, bent, crushed, etc.
ive been more that an hour trying to close this thing, it just wont edit: got it!!! i just had to put a screwdriver in the clamp that holds the screen and twisted a little to losen it. The screen went in perfectly!
i managed to fix it (edited my original post). Probably was just a bad quality screen i purchased. Thanks for helping though. And thanks for the tutorial!
My phone is not turning on and is staying black. What should I do? I rechecked all the connectors and the ports and they all seem to be fine. Help me plz. THanks
+Jeremiah Son Connect to iTunes and see if the phone is detected. That way you will know if the board is powering up. If so then we know that the display or its interface is most likely the problem.
I have a question, I gave my brother my iPhone 5s and he put in a wrong sized Sim card, so he tried to dig it out with a paper clip. When he finally got it out and turned on the phone, it initially displayed regularly but a few seconds later the screen began to turn a variety of colors like blue and purple. Also the touch screen does not respond. Could you tell me what the problem is?
Jordan Her That doesn't sound good. He might have damaged something on the inside. This occurs sometimes after screen replacement or other repair. I wouldn't be able to say for sure without looking at the logic board under a microscope.
I don't think that Apple is going to do much for you as this is a case of physical damage to the inside of the phone. If you can find someone to repair the sim reader for under $150 then I'd say it's probably a worthwhile repair especially if it's not a Sprint/Virgin phone.
Hi, i watched a different video, and they didn't turn off the back purple film, i have read that I should have.. ummm is it worth going back in and taking it off?
Personally I would take it off just to avoid potential problems. Phones come in on occasion with the film still on and work otherwise. An easy mistake for someone to make if they've never done a repair before but when they come in that way from another shop that concerns me.
Thanks, yea I might leave it for now, worried about accidentally breaking anything as it seems to work ok, though at times, the responsiveness of the screen is funny, I guess the issue is to do with heat transfer from the screen to the metal back plate perhaps, thanks for the info

Probably the screen but you might want to try reconnecting it and also take a close look at the cable and where it connects to make sure there is no debris or damage to either piece.
