So glad I could help! Once you know what to do, it's all about practice and being patient with yourself :) Don't be scared to mess up! You'll learn something so you can improve
I’ve always struggled with eyeliner since high school. Your video made me realize I was applying pencil eyeliner incorrectly. Didn’t know the pencil was supposed to be horizontal to your eye. I was applying it like liquid eyeliner. It was to the point that I stopped applying eyeliner because I’d mess up due to an unsteady hand or smudging. This video gave me confidence to start practicing again. Thank you so much.
Thanks so much for the positive feedback! I don't have a ton of experience, but I currently take a public speaking class so that I can be better at communicating on camera :)
@@TheMakeupByMelissaM No problem! I subbed as well for future videos! I hope you continue making them, since make-up videos Ive watched never go to the basics like yours does. Like they all expect you to know these basics already and thats pretty frustrating when you are trying to learn. Have a nice day! :D
Having never done eyeliner, and just got some today, I realize I made a good choice in getting a pencil. And your tutorial was sooooo helpful, much appreciated! 👍
This is so encouraging and I tried it while she was doing the video and I have never ever used an eyeliner pencil in my life I’ve always use liquid and my eyeliner liquid is expired so I was like OK let me use my pencil first time using pencil and everything I asked my mom if it looked you know she said it looks perfect for doing first time with pencil so I love this video
Personally I struggle the most with: • fully understanding the properties of different brush shapes, • making the colors really saturated (especially after blending), • blending itself, • [almost]perfectly applying lipstick in shorter time than like 10+ minutes that it takes me ( ; _ ; ) • applying mascara quickly and efficiently without destroying everything. I've got very long lashes and they either clamp as hell or transfer mascara onto my eyelids (but I don't want to be forced into using the "hold a credit card behind them!" techniques because that just feels pitiful ;) ) and almost always bunch of small black dots fall down from my lower lashes. Hope this will give you some ideas for the future!
@@Lolorinka Wow this is so helpful, thank you! I will definitely be doing a brush breakdown. As for your mascara troubles, usually the transfer issue under the lower lashline is from the mascara contacting the heat and oils on your skin. Do you powder under your eye? Just a tiny bit of translucent powder on your skin there may help keep the mascara in place. Or you could use waterproof on your bottom lashes only. As for the top lashes...using a business card really is a safe bet BUT you could also tilt your head back when you apply your mascara. This will make it so your lashes are further away from your eyelids as you are applying.
@@TheMakeupByMelissaM Thank you for your tips! I tend to use foundation AFTER I do eyemakeup (in case of making a mess it's somewhat easier to repair), maybe applying it before would help with keeping the heat away from the mascara - will surely check it out! :) And ok, your message convinced me. I'll try to use the card-of-shame next time I do my lashes and see if it works with my clumsy hands ;) Glad I could help and I'm looking forward for the brush breakdown ^^
@@Lolorinka 'The card of shame' hahaha! And more than the order you're applying, just make sure after you apply your foundation/under-eye concealer, you add that thin layer of powder I mentioned. That is what should make a bit of difference! :)
High schooler here! I realize I’m very late to this, but this helped so much! I have little to no makeup experience, but this made me more confident to start practicing! I originally liked the liquid eyeliner (I had a friend do mine on occasion because I couldn’t aha-) but I was sent a pencil a couple months ago and used it for the first time a couple days ago (it was a disaster) but I love the way the pencil looks on others so I can’t wait to try! Tysm for the tutorial :))
Girl you’re not late! If anything I am, I’m in college already :) just enjoy the makeup learning process and have fun accentuating your natural beauty!
Thank you so much! I had no idea when the tip fell off. I tried twisting shaking to get what ever might be inside out. Seriously I thought I was crazy. Love UA-cam for helping a girl out. Thanks luv!
I'm non binary and I'm very scared of telling my mom I want to wear make up, so I didn't know how to learn. Thanks for making this video! Your voice is very calm :D
This is a great video it has helped but one thing i'm struggling with is my right eye, because i have a lazy eye my right is my dominant eye so it is difficult to do.
The problem I have is that my lashes are blond, so there's always a gap between the eyeliner and mascara. Is there a trick to this? I've only recently started wearing makeup the past few years and more recently the past few weeks because I've finally found a mascara that doesn't irritate my eyes so I can wear more makeup
I'm confused about the lower part of the eye. Do you go all the way across or just to the pupil? Also I have always done by eyeliner first. I don't think it goes smoothly over shadow. And what is the best way to smudge it? I always use my finger. Should I use a sponge or qtip?
There are no set 'rules' for what eyeliner will suit you best (as far as going all the way across or half way)--you should test out both and see what seems to suit you! I typically don't do eyeliner on the bottom on most people because it can look heavy, but if you have bigger eyes it can be nice! As for smudging a Q-tip is fine, but they make something called a 'smudge brush' that does an even better job!
I'm really struggling with making the line thin, it always seems to cover too much of my eyelid. any advice? also I can't seem to get it to be one solid line, it always is like zigzaggy :(
Hey Alexis! If you are using a pen-style eyeliner, I find that sometimes they DO struggle on top of eyeshadow. Not sure if that's because the shadow transfers onto the pen and blocks the product from coming out, or if it creates too smooth of a surface for it to get the friction it needs for more liner ink to come out. Either way, if you use a gel, cream, or liquid liner that comes with a brush in the cap (like this one in case that's confusing: amzn.to/2NUhc8G) you should eliminate this problem I think!
I just want to add that stretching the skin of your eyes is not recommended for applying eyeliner. This skin is the most sensitive on your body and pulling or pushing it to apply make up increases the aging process.
I am 30 and still don’t know what kind of eyeliner I should be wearing. I never wear it at all. I have very deep set, close together eyes so I feel like eyeliner just makes them look worse.
this is so encouraging. I've been struggling so much and getting so much anxiety over my eyeliner. i really feel better after this thank you.

Yup! If you line the 'upper waterline' (which is right beneath your eyelashes) with pencil it will fill in those gaps for you!

Do you have to wear on bottom of eyes or just top.
