  • I've been wanting to put a dual setup on the CGE pro as it is more than capable of coping with the weight but I came up with a problem regarding the mounts home position & how the mount is built. I did come up with a solution which I hope will be ok as you will see in the video.

    Excellent Tich, well put together, looks really solid and fit for use, fingers crossed that there’s not much messing around when everything is turned on 🤞🤞🤞

      Yeah mate that's going to be the fun part getting everything to work so fingers crossed it does, it'll be nice to use the Newtonian again to as it's been a while.

    The focuser looks like a clone of the ZWO EAF. I have just found it and ordered one to. Cheers Tich.

      No worries Neil I paid over that for a second hand focus cube a while back so I'm hoping the Gemini EAF is going to be ok.

    Hey Tich - Nice work and nice to be able to have the two setups like that. Logans Astrophotography has similar setup in NZ. I've also been looking at that Gemini focusser, seems a bargain.

      Cheers Ollie yeah seen Logan's with his SCT & Esprit very nice that, an SCT would be a better bet in mine to to be honest but I managed to squeeze the thing in lol.

      Ha ha yeah sorry about that Tom although in my defence I've owned both scopes for quite a while now lol, weird as I saw that you'd commented a couple of days ago only to see that it had gone for some reason very weird.

    Nice one, I used to have a dual set up on my old EQ8, and had to turn the saddle by 90 degrees to get it to work too. It’s a shame the Onstep system does not have a feature for it, but you got round it, so all good, look forward to your first light with the set up…👍🏻

    • @dumpydalekobservatory
      @dumpydalekobservatory  8 днів тому +1

      Thanks Stuart the Onstep isn't the problem on this it's the design of the mount itself as it has limit & home switches on each axis so it will always use those so the mount knows when its at the home position if that makes sense. You would have thought that Celestron would have given you the option just to rotate the saddle but sadly this wasn't the case, fingers crossed I'll get a first light with it soon cheers.

      @dumpydalekobservatory  8 днів тому

      No worries mate I did ask Chad who built the kit if there was a solution as he has a dual setup on his mount but he said there isn't sadly & as height is the issue this was the only solution I could come up with.

    Looking good. Nothing wrong with a good dual rig setup. I found it really saves on physio fees (fixing your back from having to lift heavy rigs on an off a single rig setup). And you can flick between the setups really quickly in NINA if you want to change scopes and targets during the night. I'm really interested to see what you think of the Gemini focuser once you have it up and running - sounds bloody good for the price. CS

    • @dumpydalekobservatory
      @dumpydalekobservatory  8 днів тому +1

      Thanks Logan I think balancing it may prove to be the tricky part but we shall see when I get everything fitted, I'm guessing I may need another small counterweight bolted on somewhere but we shall see. I hear ya regarding saving your back & as I'll be off to hospital for an op in a few months might as well get the heavy stuff sorted out now so I haven't got to worry about it later.
      Cheers & clear skies

    Nice setup Tich, did you have to account for the weight difference between the two scopes when placing the two saddles? Looked in the video like the heavier scope was closer to the center than the smaller scope, but I wasn't sure.

    • @dumpydalekobservatory
      @dumpydalekobservatory  17 годин тому

      Hi there Chris, yes the larger heavier scope is closer to the centre than the refractor although it's not properly balanced as yet as I'm waiting for the autofocuser to arrive so I can then attempt to balance it all properly also need to get a dew heater for the secondary mirror to so still going to be a while before it all gets a first light.

    Very nice setup Tich! One rig, double the data😀 Ali Express seems to be a reasonably priced company, I’ve used them before! Will be interesting to see your thoughts on the new focuser! I need another focuser and am about to get the ZWO EAF, may hang on a bit now!😀 Clear skies mate!

    • @dumpydalekobservatory
      @dumpydalekobservatory  8 днів тому +1

      Cheers Simon I doubt I'll be doubling the data though as they would need to be aligned & I'm betting they're going to be a fair bit off from one another, but nice to have the choice for different targets rather than swapping out scopes. Hopefully the Gemini focuser will be ok & like the ZWO EAF is powered by the USB cable so that's one cable less to deal with.
      Clear skies

    Nice rig mate. Is that focuser ascom compliant? It does look good value for money.

    • @dumpydalekobservatory
      @dumpydalekobservatory  6 днів тому

      Thanks & yes it is Ascom compliant if you watch this video by Andy he shows you it working within NINA, the drivers can be a bit of a faff to find but he does show you how he got his.
