Yeah. People gain the weight back because they crash diet or get tok restrictive and it isn’t sustainable. Moderate calorie deficits, high protein, hit the gym. Do that consistently for like A YEAR and you will be shredded. Period.
Fructose may be an issue, but calories are still important. Both ideas can be true. Bariatric surgery causes weight loss. Anorexia causes weight loss. Ozempic causes a loss of appetite, causing weight loss. Cutting calories causes weight loss. Avoiding carbs, while cutting calories, causes weight loss. There are no shortcuts around calories.
Well here is another but opposite extreme example: "vitamin D overdose" causes rapid weight loss despite of calories. According to my research we have two metabolic states I call them winter and summer mode. Unfortunatelly our average diet (including too much fructose) keep us in winter mode. If we followed how we ate during winter we would be more healtier and only gain fat under skin againts winter. Like Inuit do. But switching to summer mode is not an easy issue... It seems we have to manage copper status in fact. And it could explain why we lost ability to produce vitamin C...
@@James_36 No. You have to understand how our metabolism is working first. Than you will understand why fat loss was never about only calories. We are adapted to winter by cortisol. Cortisol is not adapted to sugar intake. But there are many other factors too... Calorie deficiency is only an emergency situation what is handled by cortisol...
Fundamentally, if you consume less calories than your maintenance, you will lose weight. Calorie deficit, you lose weight, eat healthy while doing it, you feel good, but a deficit is absolutely needed or you will not lose fat. Stop over complicating it.

I don't know. I use calorie restriction on my dogs, myself, and my horses when we need to lose weight. I will cut maybe 1/8th of a cup/scoop (which isn't much at all) of food out of their diet consistently each day, they lose weight. I will cut my food intake back each day, and I lose weight. It works every time regardless of what I eat. So I wouldn't demonize calorie restriction as a tool for weight loss. I do agree that sugar should be avoided as much as possible. Obviously, if you choose whole foods over sugary processed junk, you can eat more volume. Also, it is more satiating than garbage food.
Calories restriction can work only if you are healthy and eating healthy food. Problem is that processed food is developed to make you choose wrong. To disable your free will.
Your diet should be good. I used counting calories to keep losing weight. But the most important thing is that i kept my diet the same. Just keep eating healthy and the weight stays off.

But ppl who restrict refined carbs for long periods ALSO yo-yo back once they start eating junk again…and trust me for most ppl who got to the point of being severely overweight, the urge to eat junk never goes away mo matter how good eating clean might make them feel. so its just as hard for them to sustain a no refined carbs life as it is to maintain a balanced low calorie diet. If they could easily control their 7:25 urges to eat highly palatable dopaminergic foods they wouldn’t be overweight to begin with!
I agree and disagree in the following ways: first, if you eat like garbage including lots of processed foods, then you switch to real foods you will lose a ton of weight. Switch out muffins and chips and soda for meat, veggies, apples, and water and the weight will drop like magic. BUT, you can also keep on that stubborn last 10 pounds because calories, even with that healthy food, are too high. Calorie counting for losing weight is tried and true. I mean I watched it and what he says isnt wrong just that he couldve expressed himself better instead of having a huge dissapointment in calorie-counting. Its definitely a tool and the problem with dieting is that people start to eat better and track calories and when theyve lost the weight they go back to their old lifestyle and habits, THATS the reason behind jojo-dieting. Everyone whos serious about losing weight should consider changing their lifestyle all around and not having a temporarily diet but something you actually enjoy and withstand, thats the hardest part about it.
Weight loss =\= fat loss.
I agree
Well here is another but opposite extreme example: "vitamin D overdose" causes rapid weight loss despite of calories.
According to my research we have two metabolic states I call them winter and summer mode. Unfortunatelly our average diet (including too much fructose) keep us in winter mode.
If we followed how we ate during winter we would be more healtier and only gain fat under skin againts winter. Like Inuit do.
But switching to summer mode is not an easy issue... It seems we have to manage copper status in fact.
And it could explain why we lost ability to produce vitamin C...
When it comes to fat loss calories are the only game in town seriously. Health is a different subject
@@James_36 No. You have to understand how our metabolism is working first. Than you will understand why fat loss was never about only calories.
We are adapted to winter by cortisol. During winter there were no sugar, no any plant food. Fat under skin was life saving. And only food source were animals.
Cortisol creates sugar from amino acids. Cortisol is not adapted to sugar intake.
But there are many other factors too...
Calorie deficiency is only an emergency situation what is handled by cortisol...
He is so so right and I couldn’t agree more.
Fundamentally, if you consume less calories than your maintenance, you will lose weight. This of course goes in conjunction with eating healthier and more nutritious foods that are high volume, low calories and keep you satiated. Avoid calorie dense low volume foods that do not fill you up but significantly add to your caloric intake without realising. Track your food and macros, choose the healthier options and ease into a sustainable caloric defecit and you will lose weight. I started doing this in July weighing 104kg. Im now 76kg by doing all of the above. If you're consuming healthy but calorie dense foods i.e. potatos, rice, fruites and nuts and are going over your maintenance you will not lose weight... simple.

Bull. Shit.
If you're insulin resistant due to high visceral fat, dropping calories won't put you in a calories deficit. Your body's metabolism crashes to match your intake. The deficit will have to come from carbs. Just because you don't understand the phrase metabolic syndrome doesn't mean anyone is overcomplicating it.

The Calorie is science from 1819-1824. Wikipedia - "The term "calorie" comes from Latin calor 'heat'.[12] It was first introduced by Nicolas Clément, as a unit of heat energy, in lectures on experimental calorimetry during the years 1819-1824."

Organelle! I haven't heard that word since 9th grade biology. With that said, I guess it wasn't a very practical thing to be learning about. I wish they had showed me how to fix a dishwasher or tile a bathroom instead.
People who allow themselves to become morbidly obese have food addiction, a completely separate issue to deal with
I agree and disagree in the following ways: first, if you eat like garbage including lots of processed foods, then you switch to real foods you will lose a ton of weight. Switch out muffins and chips and soda for meat, veggies, apples, and water and the weight will drop like magic. BUT, you can also keep on that stubborn last 10 pounds because calories, even with that healthy food, are too high. Calorie counting for losing weight is tried and true. No! Calories by themselves have nothing to do with losing or gaining weight. They are the same only if you are going to literally burn them. People only lose weight restricting calories because they eat less carbohydrates in the process. That means they lower their insulin spikes, like it has been explained in this video. They are fattening calories like carbohydrates and non fattening like fat, beef, lettuce. I spent decades eating way more calories than I spent and never gained weight. @@MrZola1234We don't burn proteins. We don't burn fibers. Closest to burning (mitochondria making ATP) is our body using fats and glucose. Problem with glucose is that if you oversupply your body with it, it will switch into powersaving mode(high insulin and insulin resistance) which will make affected tissues sick a deteriorating and gaining fat in others. And calories burning will be slowed down. And if for example your brain develops insuline resistance you loose control. That's the reason for overeating.
