- Late Model Engines (LME) in Houston Texas is known all over the world as the place to call for the most insane LSX and LT based builds...among Gen III Hemi and Ford Mod Motors too. Here we take a tour with one of the owner/founders Bryan Neelen who does not hold back anything! Bryan explains every step of the process along with lots of specific "proprietary" technical preferences that LME has used to build their success over the last 18 years. Everything from complete engines to bad ass billet aluminum components. Its all here...and we get to see it all!

Did you guys learn anything from Bryan that surprised you? I thought it was awesome how he was not only so explanatory about every part of the process but also went into specifics about tolerances and stuff like that. That’s some top level stuff! The LSXcalade will come back better than ever with LME handling version 2.0. Tell them they gotta make a billet hi ram lid 😂😂😂

Bro I loved this video. Super informative. I wish I was running something with the LS platform so these guys could build my engine. I may make the swap to the hemi soon though so maybe they can build my new heart.
I really enjoy your factory tour videos and Brian places this one as your best! $20 says he surprises you with the first billet hi ram lid on your build.😁 Glad Ruger is doing well!
Will you be at the car meet in Toledo Ohio may 1st for a cletus and cars fest
You need a "one eye dog" shirt.
I'll buy 2
All the, This Old Tony fans now about turning a old milling machine into cnc. He did all on his own. Pretty cool stuff.
For real he put some work into that
Poor Logan.....one of my dogs lost an eye as a puppy. It did not slow her down at all. Hope Ruger makes a full recovery.
Bryan straight up blew my mind. He deserves 100% success. I appreciated him giving us the privilege of the fine details. And you too Bro.
Brian is the New Vic Edelbrock. One smart & ingenious young entrepreneur. All the Best to You Brian.
Loved when you asked, 'if you could get away, what do like to do?' Great question!
21:50 when he talks about Hand Blending in the intake an exhaust ports on the head heads. Remind me that we as humans should take pride in our accomplishments whether it be creating a machine to do most of the work or fine-tuning the work afterwards I really truly geek out on these videos cuz I'm a self-taught person I have very little experience in schooling so I absorb the most I can
As a machinist in Houston making babbitted bearings within a 4 decimal place tolerance regularly (for turbines and rotating equipment), this video is really awesome. He is really smart and has it figured out, it's all in the crew you got. Sweet video keep it up bud
Thanks man you’re absolutely right 💪🏻
exactly how I see this video myself. This guys is more than a great machinist or assembler he understands the science behind what he is doing, and how things work. That was very obvious.
For real he knew exactly the step of process the cnc was in just by glancing at it.
Being a S.A.M Alumni myself, it's really refreshing to see an interview with an engine builder that:
A: Knows what He's talking about.
B: Doesn't rush through and sugar coat the details
C: IS successful and a leader in their field.
I know demand is low, but it would be really Kool to see an intake manifold with an integral intercooler to fit classic GMC 6-71 type blowers to Ls and LT applications that actually FIT and aren't overpriced junk that require tons of work..
Great interview and tour of LME man, Your motor is in good hands..
Yeah, it's in good hands as long as the guy actually doing the work knows the difference between 1/10 of an inch and 1/10,000 of an inch....which the guy interviewed didn't...
Can't wait for the final product the escalade gonna be pushing weight
Always 💪🏻
Brian did a awesome job at explaining his factory, great video of documenting all of it.
Thanks man 🤟🏻
I had to go to tech school (Milford) to go through tours like this myself back around 2007-2008. Awesome that you’re recording it and sharing it for everyone to see. I could watch stuff like this all day
Thanks man!
I've got a LME 377 short block/motor being built from them for my C7. With the forged internals, they say it will handle up to 1200hp with no problem. After watching this video, I can see why their motors are so popular in the racing world. I've got some major peace of mind after watching this. Can't wait to see what she can do.
I like that LME has the ability, talent, and time to build to the customers needs/wants with making sure it works together.
I have 35 years of CNC machining experience and have been well rewarded. I also build engines and 4x4 fab on the side. I wish I had the foresight to combine everything. I just never had the support to do it. Everyone was using me.
Let me add, I realize now that I hadn’t found your channel a year ago. It was the unpacking of DW’s old rig that got me here and glad I found y’all!
Thanks man!
50 percent of the time it works every time!
You're really good at this, man, keep 'em comin! Factory tours are great when you're asking relevant questions! Love it, these are rare
Thanks man I try my best
I learned the head valve port surface finish trick when I was 16 from my shop teacher (1985). I can't tell you in my lifetime how much I've argued with adults about this!
this is in the top five best videos i have seen on youtube this is why i don't have regular tv no bull and no commercials can't wait for your next episode
Thanks dude!!
@@Stapleton42 no problem i enjoy the show
Those guys are one of the few at the top of the food chain, in the LS and LT world.
THE top 💪🏻
Poor guy, I knew that eye was coming out when I saw it. I hope he's doing a lot better!! I had an elderly dog that we took an eye out of and he got a second lease on life
Yeah...it was bad. I appreciate you dude
He'll be back to himself in no time though!
Before retiring I was 😢a caterpillar engine training instructor . Best engine video I have seen . Great detail. The owner was great !!!! One to ten I would give the owner a ten. I have been in many engine shops in 43 years involved with cat and I would rate this co in the top three. Great video. Keep up the good work.
That’s awesome!!
25 years as a Machinist I use a Apec 5 axis we cut twelve cylinder train engines. The blocks are over ten feet long 4 feet in height we do the same work on a larger scale. I'm Canadian and form Ontario Canada G.E. is our main customer. We also do tear downs and rebuilding.
Great to hear LME were doing dovetailed o-rings & grooves, just provides that nice bit of extra holding to ensure gaskets stay exactly where they're meant to be. It's the extra little things like that, which help make a good product even better. Key thing that stood out, was delegating the jobs to the best folks you can find - they know what they're doing, so you can concentrating on growing more of your own skills and your business!
We just sent an LS9 out there, can't wait!
Incredible operation. Can only imagine what kind of H.P. one of his engines will be making 20 years from now. Great info/ video
Really impressed with LME setup, zero bad reputation, I searched😅 I’m definitely giving them my business on my next 427 short block
They’re great people!
Since I discovered you on UA-cam (it was the Holman & Moody video) I’ve subscribed and I’m catching up on your “back issue” videos whenever I’ve got time. I really like your concept of visiting manufacturers and shops and just letting the camera roll, letting the people tell the story spontaneously, without them having a prepared marketing script. My feeling is that some of them seem to get carried away a bit and may tell more than may have initially intended, providing all the more understanding for all of us viewers and additional spice to the story. Both you and your partner rarely interfere with the process, but ask intelligent and frank questions, making the videos about the people and their work, and not making it about yourselves. Doing road trips together concerning topics you’re obviously both interested in is a great way to spend your time. My girlfriend and I share a passion for cool cars and motorcycles, so I know how fortunate you both are, too. I’m watching your videos from Germany, where I grew up, but now nearing retirement age I will be relocating to Southern California. I’m particularly interested in learning more about all the car action there and who does what in terms of top quality projects, parts and workmanship. Would love to initiate and be part of a project when I get acquainted with the scene there. Although all of your videos have a logical ending and the viewer comes away with good insight about what’s going on, I could continue watching, if there was additional footage. I rarely get that feeling and its a sure sign for me the stuff is really good. Please take that as a sincere compliment of all of what you are putting into your videos. Thanks for all the effort, travel, cost, preparation, coordination, time, passion and whatever else needed for producing these great videos. Keep ‘em coming!
My dad was a machinist, tool and die maker, and I remember in the 1970's him showing me the tape (holes) feed CNC machine, and saying it was going to change the entire machine trade world...
That’s awesome lol. I have a similar story from my dad about my grandpa bringing home flexible flat panel display screens in the late 70s saying someday you’ll hang a tv on the wall. I wish he were still around to tell me those stories.
@@Stapleton42 LOL, you young whipper snappers. I remember writing the programs on a keypunch machine to make the tape.
Sometimes I break a tree branch for dowel when I drill concrete!!🤣🤣🤣
@@captnjoe40
My dad did the same...
ive worked on cnc for years and ive always been amazed what the machines can be programmed to do. when he said vvt i had flashbacks lol hope Ruger a fast recovery!! Great video!
Thanks man 💪🏻
That's a ton of thought just into cross-hatch, the emphasis they put on that alone makes me want to have them machine my stuff. Never would have thought about that using a bottle brush hone.
Loved it all. Wish this was around when I was growing 😪 up in the 70s
Bryan is clearly knowable and passionate with his job .
Very much appreciate his dialogue
Same! He is a great teacher
I love the behind the scenes tours. They remind me of the PCN tours of things that are made here in PA.
You get great access to all these shops. Incredibly interesting.
Thanks Gary!
scooped up a couple shirts an a lil tip for the pupper... I trapped a Coyote pup when I was 12. broke its paw in my trap... felt ... tiny... took her home ...vet bills... 15 yrs she was my best friend, could not bark like a dog.. but howl like a Coyote... so we named her Fable... the stories she could tell!!! < Absolutely Gods honest truth. keep up the content, Couples who Race Together Stay Together!!!
Theres just so much "awesome" in the video to even acknowledge it all in one comment. First and foremost, I've gotta mention.. seeing one of those retrofitted CNC machines at work is seriously cool, I've watch This Old Tony for a long time and that was one of his major projects. Also.. pretty cool to watch some modern equipment at work, even though I'm loyal to my oldschool stuff thanks to Abom79.
Secondly though, its so awesome to listen to you guys talk about engine assembly and manufacturing at the level you guys are. Clearances are just a two dimensional figure in the 3D picture that makes up an engine. Knowing that you have 0.XXX clearance on your mains is great and all- but it doesn't tell you where the center points between each main live, and where those exist vs the center point of the main journals on the crank.. so although it sounds so simple, its definitely refreshing to hear this being discussed. We need more of this, and less of the "Hype" UA-camrs who are really only good at cramming a sponsored engine and sponsored transmission, in a rough car that has 20k worth of sponsored fab work to make everything bolt in.. followed by them going to blow it up 3 passes in because somehow they still managed to mess up the install.
Dude you are so right it hurts. I felt that in my BONES 😂 I always saw UA-cam as a place for dumb shit and never watched any car youtubers for that reason. Then one day I realized someone had to be the one to change the way things are done. That’s my mission. I make content for people with a drive for knowledge while still providing entertainment. That’s my mission.
@@Stapleton42 you're killing it man 💪 a lot of kids are learning loads from this stuff I'm sure. Growing up I had to study forum posts and talk with old men who can barely use the internet, then read ripped off service manual PDFs.. having this sort of layout for learning would've been killer.
solid tour video. you ask a question and let the man speak. so many tours or shop behind the scene videos are chaos, way to many people talking most of the time, but defiantly passionate about the product they put out.
Prayers up for Ruger. Great vid. I'll be waiting on part2. 👌
This place is like tesla of engine performance..Wow such a cool shop very well done..
Great interview for this great little company. Thank you for focusing on the small business you are using. Thank you for sharing and promoting small businesses. This video will keep the great small business working.
Thanks man I appreciate you watching and commenting. Glad to have people like you here
From watching the last two videos, I would definitely say your engine is in very good hands. And yes, I learned a whole lot listening to Bryan. He really is an encyclopedia of engines. On another note, your doggy is in good hands with Logan. I wish him a speedy recovery.
Much appreciated dude
I like seeing the dyno room and how they work great job!
LME is such a complete and forward thinking company. They produce a beautiful engine. Thanks for this awesome tour of their shop.
Anytime dude I’m glad you liked it 💪🏻
Good quality American engineering and manufacturing...that's what we need more of
I worked at a company called Kenlab we did custom fabricating. It wasn't automotive we made equipment and parts for other industry's . A company would come to us and we would take their design and sometimes we would have to redesign the parts so they can be mass produced. We worked with Aircraft industry computer industry and medical industry. At Kenlab I made a few parts that are on the Voyager spacecraft. We would make one off parts to mass produced parts. I designed fixtures for holding parts to be welded. I also did close tolerance welding working as close as 0.003. I loved working there.
glad to see that ruger is okay, despite the now only one eye. great video as usual, can’t wait for the next one already.
Love the follow up video! I hope Cyclops feels better soon!
LME has to be a direct competitor to Mast Motorsports due to the quality and attention to their builds. I like the fact this guy has no secrets, and is quick to explain his process. This is because anyone can copy the process but not everyone will take the attention to detail LME is committed to provide. This video should be a great tool for LME to direct a potential customer toward their services. I know I wouldn't mind sending a set of heads to LME after watching these videos.
Thanks man. You’re spot on with all of that!
Your style and production quality is 1st rate
Thanks man
I would move to Texas just to work for Bryan that guy is straight up a badass!!!!
Poor baby.. he will be ok after he gets used to it. My mom's dog lost 1 also and he's all good with it.
Logan Ruger will be alright dogs have amazing resilience. LME is one of few. I can't believe they go as far as measuring the finish of their parts. My question is how long before lsxcalade finds the next weakest link in the chain. Version 2.0 is gonna rock
Bryan knows his shit !
Another great one...! You're on an epic journey...! Thanks for posting it all...!!! Don't stop being you...!!! Keep up y'alls awesomeness and go enjoy some nature today...! Don't forget to compliment someone today...
Thank you kurtis!
Bryon you said that you were from New York where abouts I'm from Dannemors originally. All your videos are really great. I'm 67 and willing to learn new stuff every day. Thanks Tom
I have the same coping mechanism. Jokes to deal with trauma. Great video, poor puppy !
It’s the only way I know lol
That was cool, thanks for the invite!👍 And I hope your puppy is doing better each and every day, and a great thing for him comes from Dr. Jeff, it helps if not totally eliminates bad breath and tooth, and gum issues. It's also has stuff for the digestive system that ensures everything is working as it should! Catch ya later, until next time, From your fan from Alabam, peace out!👍🦅🦅🇺🇲✌️
i love seeing the specialized tooling...so many cool machines in that shop! LME should grind and sell their own line of camshafts!
I know it would seem cliche to say but the entire tour was really interesting. Bryan clearly has the knowledge to put together engines to make some power. Your 427 is clearly in good hands.
Thanks man
I'm actually crying on how far tecnicly has come from hand hard working people creating engine blocks to high powered robotic cnc machines amazing video man ❤😢😄
That guy is very knowledgeable and humble! Very cool facility, if i would ever care to work again in my life it would be in a place like that.
That place is so awesome. I'd love to work there.
To spend time with one of the owners of LME and he knows so much would be a great way to spend the day. Makes me start thinking of replacing my gen 1 sbc with an LS. Thanks for doing the video.
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Poor Ruger get well soon little buddy
I like how detailed Bryan explain everything a lot of it I kind of knew but not to that degree. Logan sorry to hear about your dog. I'm sure he'll be a happy and healthy dog. My late father's Corvette that I'm building was put on hold because of my dog which I would have we do again and I consider it money well spent if I can have my dog back and it meant getting rid of that car I do it in a heartbeat. My dog just passed away two days ago due to cancer. Keep up the amazing content. Can't wait to see the LSXCALADE put the smack down on people
That sucks man. Just goes to show it could always be worse. I’m glad you watched the whole video
@@Stapleton42 thanks bro and no problem man I always watch videos all the way to the end there's no point watching a video unless you're going to watch it till the end I've been watching you for quite a while and don't plan on going anywhere
WOW! There is a lot to unpack with all of the knowledge he offered! To him it is all about the smallest details to make an engine perform for the guy spending a boat load of money to race and do "SUCK IT" racing at the people's track, YELLO BELLY! You will have and continue to have a killer Escalade!!
Every detail is the most important detail!
Badass... one of the best tour/interviews ive seen. Good job man..
Thanks man
Thanks for the nerdgasm 👍love this type of video showing their process.
Speedy recovery to Ruger
The wealth of knowledge you learned on and off camera is valuable to yours and everyone's operation, the tool to read the hone ridges is bad and very cool vid.
Bryan is super cool dude.....good interview and walk around
Billet block lol
This is awesome!
Seeing a build process like this while I'm slapping together the truck in a parking lot is humbling. Makes me try harder!
That’s what I like to hear 🤟🏻
This guy knows what’s up cuts for revision is way smart for big cams
Pups of the Caribbean..
Dog seems quite chilled, hope for a speedy recovery.
Love these type of videos, you always ask the right questions to learn about what's going on and how and whys it's done that way
I try!
Me too! This videos are golden!
You asked great questions. ie what job would Bryan like to do of all tasks in the process and what is their future plan to build business. Bryan at LME is not reinventing the wheel but building a higher quality wheel. Good stuff. Thanks for this tour.
Most of the time that’s the key! You’re exactly right. Make the best wheel.
So I just finished the video, I do dig these sort of vids (coming from the dirt track racing world) and I, selling built VW engines (don't laugh our stuff does the NORA 1000) so these sorta shop tours and discussions are awesome for the "regular non gear head" to see what all it takes to build a quality product. keep it up, also glad to see the escalade get some love back on the channel! its been a couple episodes and "NO SUCK IT COLE" references either? your slipping my friend!
Sorry to hear about Ruger. Hope he recovers soon.
Great shop tour man! Very informative.
wow Brian is one smart young man what a great company iam a retired GM tech bad back. i was the engine guy and man i even learned some things from Brain . cant wait to see the engine running man .
Bryan was on it hes defiantly is passionate about what he does looks like they do good work I’ll have to check em out when I build my TB SS up.
I don't own a LS or LT and don't plan to build one, But I was very impressed with their shop and the huge amount of professionalism there. Their machine work is very impressive and the fact that they mixed new technology with old reliable machining equipment was really cool to see. I've been to several machine shops and I have never seen one that clean. Very impressive facility and looks like a top notch company. Did he happen to mention if he planned on getting into other engine types in the industry? I.E Mopar, Ford Etc etc
They do other types of engines! They’re just not as much volume as LS LT
@@Stapleton42 Good to know, Thanks!
They do some v10 viper stuff.. have some ford mod motor stuff.. these guys r engine builders..not parts assemblers
Amazing how things are done today compared to back in the 1970's. We used to just do it all in a garage with mostly hand tools and luck. Thanks for the great content and a big thank you to brian at LME! I have a few fellas that may be interested.
Thanks man!
Sure...then again those 70's garage builds didn't have the specs, output or durability we have today right? Like he kept saying all the little details make a difference
The Bridgeport was retrofitted with Centroid controller as was the blue trimmed CNC machine. Old Iron with new modern electronics.
I thought I had attention to detail. Man I was nerding out on Brian's nerding out! LOL
Great content! love the behind the scenes.
Thanks man
Can’t wait to see the Escalade make some passes at the people’s track
Yo mamas momma!!
@@dextermacnutt you okay bro?
@@pocketflies ya you?
Thanks for giving him a spotlight. Good on you. #teambonusfoOtage #teamcyclops
That first machine was awesome. I live in a small town in New Mexico and the local speed shop here has all old school stuff love to see a company like LME using that old school tech. I love the whole shop tour. Learned a lot and will probably have to watch it again to see what I missed. Keep the great content coming.
Thanks man I will!
I could listen to this stuff all day long, so much cool stuff to learn about. Sucks about Ruger's eye, hopefully the little guy makes a full and speedy recovery.
Thanks man
LME FTW!
Very cool, such detail. What never dawned on me was when he talked about engine break-in, where we just run a super rich tune to be "safe" and can wind up damaging the rings by washing the cylinders down. Something we had to be careful of on carb applications for the same reasons before EFI. Can't just throw tons of fuel at it and be "safe".
I agree but don't ever take for granted that the decks and bores are concentric and I prefer a seasons block to start with 🤑
Great advert for Centroid. I run Centroid on my own (very similar looking) Bridgeport Series 1 Interact.
Early check in gang 👋🏽👋🏽 BTW, just wanted to say that the Candyman shirt is my favorite shirt now! Whatever shirts you are using, keep using those. Softest shirt I own
Thanks man! I only use the best quality stuff. It may cost a little more but to me it’s absolutely worth it. You guys get what I wear myself and that won’t change 🤟🏻
Have been waiting for the full tour since the tear down video!
Morning boys, after this video I'm going back to my routes, tearing into an old Honda dirtbike for a full rebuild.
Do itttt
Geekin out!!
I'd love to work at this place.
An wouldn't care where I had to start.
Id scrub toilets, mop floors whatever it would take.
That’s a meticulous process. 🚌 💨
LME is Awesome... the tour, questions and answers were very professional.
Wish I had the money to buy from them!
hell yes new upload woooo cant wait to hear the info flowing out of this guy love ittt
It’s epic dude!
@@Stapleton42 it really freakin is! I could listen to this guy talk all day long I have never seen anyone running dual throttle bodies either that's really cool
