I just started taking a 2D Animation class, and it’s so incredibly complex. It takes a team of people to animate every scene. You got animators for backgrounds, characters, effects, and lighting... I feel like Animation in general deserves way more respect than it gets.
It does, and it's cruelly ironic that America, the birthplace of animation, gives such disregard to the art and has given the wrongful stigma that it's childish.
Yeah,people(mostly parents and adults)show disrespect torwards animation so much as if it's child's play.

They are, but that's not because it's considered for children. The art itself warrants a lot of respect, and a great deal of effort is put into it, which makes it all the worse the animators are underpaid.

Father mentioned that the sacrifices are the people who have seen the truth. So the sacrifices are Ed, Al, Teacher, and Hohenheim.

I think that's where father and hoenheim are complete opposites. Father cares about his homuculus children as long as they further his plan. Hoenheim loves his sons and even goes as far as to believe he's not worthy of being called their father. Ho even offered his own life to bring their bodies back on multiple occasions
Gluttony has always been easy picking for the team from Xing, even back when they first showed up, because he's clumsy and slow as far as the homonculi go. Pride and Bradley are the only one's that are trouble for them, the former because he's ridiculously powerful and the second because his fighting style is fast and ferocious, on top of his superhuman abilities. Lan Fan's at least as good at martial arts as Ling is - she just had the misfortune of Bradley being her first major opponent after she was introduced, which is why she seems so much more skilled when put up against Gluttony.
Eric is right. (Good) TV animation production is so precise and planned. The storyboarding and animatics are counted down to the second. It's not edited in the way a live action series is, because they're not capturing any footage. Everything you see and hear is fabricated from essentially nothing. There's rarely any huge last minute changes like Aaron's example of swapping around the A and B plot. TV Animation is probably the hardest production there is, and great ones like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Avatar the Last Airbender take about a year of production for a single episode.

Pretty sure they don't take about a year per episode... 'Cause that would mean FMA:B took around 60-ish years to make, and that's obviously not the case. Unless I'm misunderstanding something here.

Also, the more people work on a series, the faster it's made. And somehow I don't think FMA:B had a small production team.
Hohenheim didn't create alkahestry. He introduced alchemy to Xing and they combined it with their own native techniques and it became alkahestry.
FMA Brotherhood is too fucking good.
In Japan, they actually do the animation BEFORE the voice acting. Here's a graph showing a typical anime production line: washiblog.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/prod.jpg Also, FMA is adapted from a manga so the anime's content, pertaining to where each episode ends and begins, is completely reliant on how much content the animators can adapt from the chapters for each episode. The animators could reach an episode's length quota after adapting 2 and a half manga chapters, meaning what may have been a cliffhanger in the anime was only like the 22nd page of a 40-page chapter. So the question of whom to blame for cliffhangers in even more complex.
Not really; FMA:B ended concurrently with the manga, so most of the stuff in the late game of the anime had a lot less planning time than the earlier episodes, which is especially impressive considering that the last part of FMA:B is by far the best.
The manga ended only one month before the anime did. It always amazed me how little time the studio had to animate the final few episodes and managed to make everything work.

I don't thibk the animatirs have any say in the script and where episodes end. That's the writers and director's job, animators, well, animate.
Thank god they cut out the most heartbreaking part of Gluttony's death... say what you want, but listening to Gluttony dying and saying "help me, Lust" is pretty messed up.

Regarding the Homunculi vs the living stones:
None of the Homunculi can use alchemy
All of the Homunculi were created using souls from Father's original group
I love the music that starts playing at 8:58. Aaron even started humming it. That music normally plays when the heroes have devised a plan or come up with an idea to defeat someone in battle. It has a really great beat and is underrated within the wealth of amazing music in FMA:B

What was going on was they lost regeneration powers. By eating Gluttony, pride got the souls, thus more regeneration.

This discussion about the animation process makes me think Eric would really enjoy watching Shirobako, which is an anime about making anime that really digs into the technical stuff from time to time. It's a fantastic show, shame I already nominated something for the poll.
If animation interests you guys, perhaps you should check out the anime Shirobako; it's an anime about the Japanese animation industry giving behind-the-scenes insight into production, directing, story boarding, animation, voice work, etc. and the general work environment of a Japanese animation studio. Fun fact is that a lot of it is actually based on the real life animation studio's experiences.
Make an animator animate more animation than necessary and watch them go nuts. Traditional Animation especially is too time consuming and laborous to animate extra footage just for the editor to cut it out. I'm surprised eric knows so much about animations
Hoenheim has a soul, the homunculus don't. Also ho has ten times as many souls in him as the homunculi because they are made from a small portion of father's souls...which should technically make him stronger than father since hoenheim has barely used his. The reason he doesn't show off his skills is because Hoemheim is supposed to be a direct character contrast to father's pride with his virtue of humility. He's powerful but humble because with all his power he remembers he is still only human...lol sorry for rambling

paulc You'll notice the FMA:B reactions aren't using the "SeasonXEpisode" naming convention. That means it's being treated as one season. There will be no more free full lengths.

This a thing of the first FullMetal Alchemist version, there's nothing to do with the manga or the Brotherhood version.
The homunculi are only a result of human transmutation in the original series, in the manga/Brotherhood they were all created by Father with the stone as their core.

Am I the only one who finds Aaron really annoying? I don't mean the dog comment but his general attitude just bothers me. It seems like he's a source of a lot of confusion for the reactions, not to mention constantly shouting things that are wrong.

That's too bad. Aaron's my favorite, and he's never seriously annoyed me. I just find him hilarious and he does in fact have insightful things he adds in discussions. He can be a huge troll though LOL, I can see how some people can get annoyed by that.
